Earlier today, I checked on Stubhub to see about going to see Taylor Swift and Phoebe Bridgers in Nashville. $500+ for the nosebleeds. $3,000 for a ticket by the stage. Absurdity.

Taylor Swift public ticket sale cancelled amid high demand

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-63652665

The company said more than 3.5 million Swifties, as her followers are known, registered in advance as "verified fans" in the hope of getting tickets for her 52-city US tour in the pre-sale.

Despite issues during the pre-sale that Ticketmaster estimated affected about 15% of interactions across the site, the company said it still sold more than 2 million tickets - the most ever for an artist in a single day.

I'm shocked that Ticketmaster wasn't better prepared than this. She hasn't toured in over 4 years. They should have realized that having just 1M tickets available wasn't going to cut it.

On an added note, she must have quite a lot of fans in the DFW area. She's doing three nights at Jerry World.

It's turning out that many of her dates are 3 shows at each stadium, with no break in the 3 dates. The other stadium dates all have 2 shows. The only place she's doing more than 3 dates at one location is at SoFi Stadium with 5 shows. Overall she's doing 7 shows in California, and six shows in Texas. All other states have 3 or less shows... at this time.

Here's what her stage layout will look like in the stadiums:

While I am not a fan of her or her music, she accomplished something no other artist has ever done including Elvis, The Beatles or Michael Jackson, the Kings of Pop. She owns all 10 spots in the top 10 on the chart. She is the all-time Queen of Pop.

Are you really, though? It's Ticketmaster. This was by design and Ticketmaster is a part of the problem. They scalp their own tickets, and some artists do as well.

https://ew.com/article/2012/09/28/justin-bieber-ticket-scalping-nashville/

But the smokingest gun is this: An entire block of seats was reserved for Bieber’s tour, and some of those tickets are currently available on resale site TicketsNow for $216 each.

Basically, he bought his own tickets at probably rock-bottom pricing and then put them on the secondary market for a profit. I'm sure it's not just him, but that's what's going on. Honestly, he probably had nothing to do with it and it was likely a guy on his team trying to flip a few hundred tickets for an extra $100/per, but that's where things are.

If TicketMaster actually wanted to sell tickets, they should just create a policy where tickets are non-transferrable. People get refunds and the tickets refunded go back into the pool for others to buy. The whole situation is just shady. The fees they add on are also a joke. They're shaking people down in broad daylight, and nobody seems to care.

I'll still go to local venues that hear local talent, but I can't justify paying for what is likely a lesser quality version than I can download from the internet.

I really wanted to go to Bill Burr a couple of weeks ago but the cheapest tickets were like $90. I paid like $40 to see Carlin around 2000. I paid $35 to see Dave Attell in a smaller venue in 2012 or abouts.

TicketMaster has basically ruined live events.

When I went to see The Eagles right after Thanksgiving, the ticket was around $350 when they added various taxes and fees.

Because I'm physically disabled and don't drive, I had to hire a company to drive me to and from the venue. That added another $600 to the price.

Yes they have, back in the *day* you used to have local or regional brokers or ticket agencies. When tickets went on sale you went and got a place in line, sometimes by camping out and waiting several hours to purchase tickets. No fees or any other kind of nonsense added either. First time i saw Van Halen in 1979 the ticket was 6.50. I hate Ticketmaster with a passion.

When The Beatles first came to Dallas in 1964, the tickets were $4.50. They only played for 30 minutes.

When George Carlin came to town, my mom purchased my tickets at the grocery store's customer service counter. You got physical tickets and that was less than 25 years ago.

The fact that they can make $11.9B in revenue off gouging is just insane.
