Zach Wilson was one of these guys who made a huge leap during the draft evaluation process. He had a great statistical year as a JR but BYU doesn't play anyone. Qb is a tough position to project, and it is made even more difficult by taking a QB who never faced any real NFL prospects on defense.....let alone multiple ones. BYU plays in a soft conference and the toughest team they played Zach's last year was Coastal Carolina. SF made the same error with Trey Lance taking him #3 overall. Lance played NOBODY in college.

Now, I think there is a place in the league for these guys to develop but the draft position was all wrong and they were way overvalued. While there are no guarantees on draft day and every pick is a guess. You can hedge the amount of guess work by simply looking at the quality of opponents they played against.

To add to this multiple scouts even noted that Wilson came off as "a know-it-all who doesn’t respond to coaching". Like you said not a good mentality for someone that didn't have a super challenging college field to play against.

He's got a great arm and very mobile but looks like a video game character out there (he keeps dropping back like 10-15 yards and then trying to throw off his back foot like he's some N64 era NFL Blitz video game character).

That didn’t last long. And the familiar turmoil of the Jets has begun…

Maybe, but for once I think they are actually making the right decision by benching him. How do you play that poorly, show no improvement and then show no accountability in the presser? Maybe he will get another shot later and succeed but right now I wouldn’t bet on it.

Not surprised. He's shown he has talent, but he makes too many howlers of mistakes. Coaches need to identify why and work on the cause.
