I noticed that he has a few moves that he uses, but I think he tends to be a bull in a china shop at times from what I noticed. If he's able to add a few more moves and time things a bit better from the time the ball moves and getting past the lineman, he will be even better. He's well on his way, but a few more moves would help. In other words, a bit more of a disciplined pass rush, if that makes sense.

Gotcha, with the speed he has he needs more moves instead of just relying on his strength

I'll give you an example. Now, this was a punt, but it will help illustrate my point. He had a play, which I think was against either Washington or JAX, but it was a game we played late in the year. He was going in to block the punt, but he completely plowed into the punter and the ball was already kicked. That's sort of what I mean. If he can time his runs a bit better, then I think he can be lethal. I like his effort, but now he needs to work on his timing.

I know what you mean, though Tank made an early comment that Sam had a lot of pass rush moves. So I think it may be more about just knowing how to put them all together. I've heard some describe it as having a plan.

Exactly, and he needs to time it a bit better, as I explained with what I saw on an attempted punt block. Moves and timing is what he's lacking ATM, but it will come in time.

Oh, I'm sure they will. I have no concerns, and the art of timing will come in time.

What were your thoughts on him this season, saw some good things, saw a few ROOKIE moments when it came to flags called against him. We can call them ROOKIE mistakes this season, next season they're BONE HEAD mistakes.

Hoping to see him take an even bigger step this off season, get with some former players maybe DeMarcus Ware/Charles Hailey etc work on some moves! Please give your thoughts
I picked him to be the best DE in the draft and at one point that looked right...then he fell off the map.

Everything i see when he is actually on the field looks good but they don't play him for some reason.

Hoping for beast mode next year with and NFL offseason and an Uber driver.

I like him and think he played well.

I thought he may make more of a pass rush impact in year one, but he played the run better than I expected.

If he can continue to improve he should be an every down player, probably just needs more reps.

It took Armstrong a while to come around, and Williams appears to be more talented. It may be about hope per usual, but it did seem as if he has some upside.

Here's my thoughts on the entire rookie class.

Tyler Smith - Blue chip at T or G. Home run selection. Might be our Erik Williams as the game continues to slow down for him and his nastiness comes out.

Sam Williams - I just don't trust him. He reminds me so much of that waste of space Gregory. Everything about him screams headcase underachiever.

Jalen Tolbert - Is it possible to have a worse rookie season? He barely got on the field for a team desperate for WRs. Looked terrible in the little he played.

Jake Ferguson - A hurdling fan favorite who made a few big plays mostly thanks to the "horrible" OC scheming him wide open in the open field. Looks like a backup to me. Slow and lumbering but has good traits too.

Matt Waletzko - Don't like the body type. Would be surprised if he ever becomes a player but we shall see.

DaRon Bland - An Orlando Scandrick like find in the 5th round but with better ball skills. One of the better day 3 picks in quite some time.

Damone Clark - Transcendent. I used to think Ray Lewis was the best off ball LB ever.

John Ridgeway - Would have been a factor here had we given him time instead of holding on to complete slop like Trysten Hill and Quenton Bohanna. Would have given the Cowboys 3 players out of this 5th round that look like keepers.

Devin Harper - Looked okay in preseason. Has a chance to stick next year. Really depends on what else they do in our upcoming really active offseason.

-

I think it will come down to Smith, Bland and Clark being real players, Williams and Ferguson being backups and the rest get flushed.

Can’t decide if he’s dumb as a box of rocks or bi-polar. Starting to get the vibe he’s one of those (what could have been) players! Hopefully I’m wrong… he’s got the skillset to be a player!

He was a backup in a pretty stacked edge rushing room. He started the season arguably 6th choice (D-Law, Parsons, Armstrong, Fowler, Basham) and I think progressed to 4th choice.

He was pretty productive with his athleticism flashes by and a fair bit of development in pass rushing technique (he was raw), but the speeding thing was disappointing and speaks to the behavior issues. I think its more Zeke than Gregory but that remains to be seen. Regardless, what he showed on the field was very promising.

You have a point!

He has the physical tools be an elite pass rusher, but does he have the mental tools? Will he put the work in? Does he have the attitude? Desire?

If he has the mental tools it we’ll help a lot toward making this D elite( lead the league in turnovers again, sacks and give up less than 15 points a game ).

He's better against the run than I expected. Needs to attach himself to Micah's hip and develop some moves, but his bull rush and speed off the edge are excellent. I'm excited to watch him continue to develop and believe he will be playing in the pro bowl sooner than later. Excellent pick.

I am hoping he is not stupid because sometimes he does stupid things. But he is a banger and the Cowboys do not have many of those. Hopefully with another offseason he will improve going into his second season. I think DEs contribute faster than DTs so year 2 is going to tell us a lot about Sam Williams.

I like how he plays angry. Gives the defense more attitude. That's what the offense needs. They need more in your face alphas.
