I don't get the Michael Mayer "Mock-Lock" to the Cowboys. Here's why

From 2005-18, of the Cowboys' 14 first-round picks, 13 had been a 30-visit invitee. IMO the Cowboys are pretty famous for drafting a 30-visit invitee in the first round.

I don't see Michael Mayer as a "30 visit" anywhere. Am I missing it?

Maybe it's just that I really don't want us to draft a TE in the first but am I wrong that we don't typically draft outside of the 30 visit invitees and Mayer isn't one of them?
thanks,
C.

Very few of these predictions are ever right, yet so many mocks by the "professionals" have Dallas taking a TE at 26. I have also been leaning in this direction just based on what the Cowboys have done in the off season. I don't favor TE at 26, but all the evidence seems to point in that direction. Still, I have serious doubts the Cowboys will take TE at 26 only because TEs can be drafted in round 2 or even 3. If I look at the Cowboys I think OL and WR are bigger needs than TE.

I think the Cowboys are going to surprise us with a disciplined pick at 26. Some fans will always be disappointed but as long as the pick is well-reasoned I think I will be satisfied.

They need a DT but at 26 the odds of getting a guy who will make an impact are small. Still, would it shock me if they took one? Nope. After 31 years of not taking DT in the first round, maybe the Cowboys will surprise us all.

Tyler Smith wasn't an official visitor, I believe. But Sam Williams was.

And now, with private workouts, the interview process at the combine, I am not sure I would put a lot of stock in a guy not being an official 30 visitor.

EDIT: If I recall, but could be wrong, Lamb wasn't an official visitor either.

That changed with McCarthy...

2023: Diggs not a 30 visit.
2021: Parsons not a 30 visit
2022: Tyler not a 30 visit.

Why would you not include the four drafts - 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 in the analysis. They are probably more applicable to how the Cowboys handle visits than something they did in 2010, for example.
It's not my analysis... great question though. I'll do more digging into recent drafts.

Cannot use 30 visitors under MM: last 3 years Lamb, Parsons, Tyler never came in for a visit.
Good to know. I think we still ended up drafting SEVERAL 30 visits last year. But maybe not in the first.

Yes, we will see some of those visitors get draft by the team, but we cannot just use that list anymore.

mayer is too slow, well rounded yes but slow....listening to Shawn and RJ and they did a very interesting analysis of successful TE's and they were all faster than Mayer.

Go bpa and save the TE for another round

Lamb wasnt. They never expected him to be there at 17

I guess you missed the correction after this post. NONE of the first rd picks under MM were 30-visit attendees.

Yeah those two bozos have a rather bad record on being right

You just said 13/30

That’s not a high %

Separate point- which I’ve been saying all along

They want a weapon at TE

They don’t want Mayer

It’s Kincaid or Musgrave , imo, if they go TE

Do the cowboys even need a TE? Serious question, if Ferguson and Hendershot get all the reps, shouldn't they be good enough? They look pretty good in limited playing time IMO.

I am not going to pretend to be an expert scout, but if McClay signs off on it, I trust his word much, much, much more than some guys on the radio.

They had 19 & 11 catches respectively last year. I would say we don't know, and 1 injury could really put us in a bind.

I've seen it now on like 5 mocks it is over guys, Michael Mayer. Don't understand why TE is the priority but whatever.

IMO we're good on defense, and we're picking late in the first round. So that opens up positions I would not normally go for at pick 26. It's a different situation for us this year. So I'm not going to be upset if they take Halloween dude at 26.
