I Think We Keep 4 Running Backs

My suspicion is Luepke is getting snaps because they are trying to figure out how he can fit into the offensive future of the team.

He is a guy on the bubble IMO and they need to run him there this camp and pre-season to make sure they make the right decision on him.

These aren't practice reps he is getting. He is playing for his roster spot.
Good points, and a different perspective.
I believe they done this in the past come to think of it. Gave certain players a few more reps than expected to see where they stand. And what direction they can take.

I think Luepke makes the team - can play 4 downs in different roles. Mafah seems like practice squad, just wondering how he went all 4 years with no TDs in college.
Blue makes the team for sure, of course.
As for Sanders/Williams, wait till the pads come on. Same for Deuce, need to see him in pads with this new staff.

I'd say they keep 3 RBs, plus Luepke. Mafah on PS. Maybe one of the vets also on PS.

I think we end up keeping 4 backs.

My best runners are Sanders, Blue, Williams and Mafah.

But special teams will also play a role in who makes the 53.

In an emergency, Mafah or Luepke, if he makes it, can play TE. I think we only end up keeping 4 TEs.
What makes you think Mafah can play TE even in an emergency?

I suspect we keep 3RBs + Luepke as a utility player.

My only true concern there is simply that the Cowboys might be better off using that roster spot for a 4th back on another position. DL, OL, WR all have a ton of depth at the positions that could require some very difficult decisions. CB could also be one we want to go long on if Diggs/Revel aren't fully ready for week 1, but not projected to be out long enough to go on the PUP/IR.

3 RBs (Williams, Sanders, Blue) + Loepke at FB, so 4. Mafa, unless he shines in preseason goes to the PS.

4 TEs (Ferguson, Schoonmaker, Spann-Ford, +1 from among Fant, Stephens) Fairweather and/or Neville go to PS.

I think we keep 3.

I'm certain Blue stays....

I think we keep 2 of the rest......
Sanders, Williams,Mafah, Luepke.......

As of now i'll say its Sanders, Williams and Blue....

The tight end situation is gonna determine how many we keep.
Imagine 4 because I think either Mafah or Luepke will stay as a FB who can also serve as a RB in a pinch, but neither will be who the team wants to rely on at RB for multiple games if injuries dictate going to the 3rd string guy. Ability to play special teams will be important to the FB

This seems to me to be a very reasonable viewpoint

If they keep 4 tight ends that’s where I see Luepke not making it. If they keep 3? I can see it.

Seems like 4 players in that tight end room including Luepke seems like a position too long.

With chubb going to Texans would like to find a way to get Damien Pierce. He started off good then seemed to tail off but his play. He play special teams for the Texans. Ifthe Texans move on from him, IMO, he'd be solid RB for someone.

I don't think we keep four tight ends on the 53. I think only three make it: Ferguson, Schoonmaker and Spann-Ford. I could see four RBs making it IF we only keep two QBs and start Grier off on the practice squad.

I think we'll keep two TEs on the PS from among Fant, Stephens, Fairweather and Neville. The UDFAs would have to play outstanding to make the 53 IMO.

Luepke essentially could be counted as a fourth TE, though, and I think he is a roster lock. Not sure why anyone thinks he might be on the bubble. The team has had nothing but praise for him and he's been among the players who've gotten snaps with the starting offense.
Yes, I'm a big Noah Fant fan. I think you can even use him as a ball carriers in the ground game.

What makes you think Mafah can play TE even in an emergency?
Size, hands, speed, awareness.

That said, I don't think you need 4 TEs. Unless they all bring ST value and can play another position well.

This is where position flex may come in for TE, WR, and RB.

Think that's a bit too many at TE when we can keep 3 backs and label Hunter as a TE, only have 2 -3TE dress, hunter would make number 4
Does he really have the juice you want, though? I think Mafah is their attempt to upgrade Luepke. Or at least have someone who can back up and compete for his role...

He had like 4 in one game.....

To think Luepke is isn't making the team or is in some type of competition with Mafah is out of touch with the roster and team building.
They are definitely different players. Mafah is strictly an RB while Luepke is a fullback/tight end who can play a little single back.

Right now, I see the roster like this:

Offense (25)
QB (2) — Dak Prescott, Joe Milton III
RB (3) — Javonte Williams, Jaydon Blue, Phil Mafah
FB(1) — Hunter Luepke
TE (3) — Jake Ferguson, Luke Schoonmaker, Brevyn Spann-Ford
WR (6) — CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Kavonte Turpin, Jalen Tolbert, Jonathan Mingo, Ryan Flournoy
OL (10) — Tyler Guyton, Tyler Smith, Cooper Beebe, Tyler Booker, Terence Steele, Asim Richards, Rob Jones, Brock Hoffman, TJ Bass, Nathan Thomas or Ajani Cornelius

Defense (25)
DE (5) — Micah Parsons, Dante Fowler, Marshawn Kneeland, Donovan Ezeiruaku, Payton Turner or Sam Williams
DT (4) — Mazi Smith, Osa Odighizuwa, Solomon Thomas, Jay Toia
LB (6) — Kenneth Murray Jr., Jack Sanborn, Marist Liufau, Damone Clark, Shemar James, Buddy Johnson or Justin Barron
CB (5) — DaRon Bland, Kaiir Elam, Shavon Revel, C.J. Goodwin, Caelon Carson or Josh Butler
S (5) — Donovan Wilson, Malik Hooker, Markquese Bell, Juanyeh Thomas, Israel Mukuamu

Special teams (3)
K (1) — Brandon Aubrey
P (1) — Bryan Anger
LS (1) — Trent Sieg

Practice squad — QB Will Grier, RB Miles Sanders, RB Deuce Vaughn, CB Josh Butler, LB Justin Barron, OL Ajani Cornelius, DT Tommy Akingbesote, DE Tyrus Wheat, NT Justin Rogers, TE John Stephens Jr., DB Bruce Harmon, WR Traeshon Holden, TE Tyler Neville, CB Mike Smith Jr., WR Jalen Cropper or OL Dakoda Shepley

It doesnr make any sense. He has no experience as an inline blocker. He is incredibly raw as a receiver, even with rudimentary HB routes. He doesnt have the frame to play TE. There is absolutely no reason to consider him at TE
