NBA Offseason Thread

Celtics made a couple major trades. Moved Holiday for Anfernee Simmons and some 2nd rounders. Moved Porzingis in a salary dump for a 2nd round swap and Niang. Those two trade get them under the 2nd apron. In whats going to be a non compete year, Simmons is a very good get in that trade. In his prime at 27 and has been a 20 ppg scorer and quality outside shooter. Offensively he fits Boston, but is a poor defender. I see him as a guy that might get moved in later this offseason, or at the deadline. Jrue is a year away from needing picks attached to move. I think he will be making 37m next year at 36 years old.

Supposedly teams are calling the Celtics about Brown and White. Its going to be an interesting night on that front. Either wouldn't shock me. Moving both would though. Brown doesnt make much sense, until you realize he (along with Tatum) are on Supermax deals. Its gonna be hard building around 2 super maxes. And if you can it gets expensive quick. Its worth noting that over there careers, Tatum and Brown have gotten at least as far as the ECF more times then they havent. So you having though two means solid playoff runs of you do an ok to good job building around them, and contention if you do a very good job building around them

Pretty good when Kyrie will be hurt for most of it. So you believe they will be worse then the Kessler Edward’s lineups they had this year?
Probably not. But Kyrie is missing half the year and Anthony Davis is generally good for 50/60 games. I think they are good enough with those factors to contend for the play in or maybe even a 6th(depending on how strong the West is this year)

I don’t think you guys remember had bad it guy. Their 6 best players were hurt and they were competing. I’ll take 6th with those injuries and have everyone healthy by playoff.

They were still 7-15 the last two months. Its good that they fought, but I dont see more than 45 wins with this team. Shouldnt really about this year anyways. IMO they should move Davis and get assets to build around Flagg. Davis would net a decent return. A player of his skill level, teams will ignore alot of questions

They should’ve been winless though. Their best player was Naji Marshall in that stretch.

I think AD is better than what you would get in return. If he gets you a Kevin Durant deal? I’d rather have AD.

But what good is he to the Mavs? As constructed they are a mid level playoff contender. Also with Davis you have to be concerned that with the amount of injuries he has had, that you could see sharp decline in production. You could probably still get 3 #1's for Davis. To me, the smart play for Dallas is the build a war chest to build around Flagg. Not keep a team that looks good on paper, but are led by players that cant be counted on and could age fast. With his injury history, Kyrie could also start to hit a decline

Future first round picks doesn’t help me win next year though. I trade AD to someone and get what? Late round picks? Never been a fan of that. At least of if I get 4 or 5 that will be so far down the road that the team may be bad by then.

AD if healthy is a top 10 player. On both sides of the ball. I have so many toys to play with with him, Naji, PJ, Lively and Gafford.

I love what they have built. A team full of two way players….i feel the same way about Philly. If they can have Embid healthy for a playoff run they have as good of a chance as anyone out East.

They arent anything next year though. They arent going to contend. At the absolute best, they make it to the 2nd round. Thats not the smart way to go when you just drafted a 19 year old franchise player

I get your stance if you don’t think they can contend. I just disagree. I don’t see a team out West that’s just clear cut better than them aside from Thunder. T Wolves don’t scare me, Rockets don’t, Lakers don’t, Nuggets don’t….

Spurs I think will be much better this year…but they still have to do it.

I’m just not seeing the same thing.

Flagg is 18 years old. You don’t have to rush his development. He can come right in and fit a role.

Celtics trade out. Give up #32 for four second round picks.

Thats a nice haul, but I would have just taken Reynard. Reynard has a very good chance to be a starting caliber stretch 5. Thats worth more than four #2's

Spurs did well with their 2 picks getting consensus A from multiple sources. Now they’ll go out and get a veteran big in free agency. Can’t wait for the season!
