Let's Talk About Clowney

The cash he was demanding 2-3 seasons ago was stupid.
He's putting up the same production now as 2-3 seasons ago but at about half the cap.
He was worth it at that cost and it was heavily incentive based

Those kind of players need solid guys around them. Role players. Clowney is surely one.
I refer you to my comment about liking our group of DEs (of whom Clowney is very obviously one). Perhaps you can explain how you could have possibly come to the conclusion that I was suggesting we don’t re-sign Clowney?

Our ends are starting to look a lot better as the season has gone on, and I think Clowney's veteran presence has been a factor in that.
I think the DTs being much better is a big factor in that, but the DEs are getting better too.

Our starting dline is new to the team this year. And one of them is a rookie. Just by getting them used to the system we should get better play out of them.

I am not sure how you came to the conclusion that I think you were suggesting we don't resign Clowney.

Not everything is contrarian. I was supporting your supposition that you need those young studs.... along with some old vets/role players, if the price is right.

Sure. Fair enough.

I think if he was say the 10th pick in the 2014 draft, instead of the 1st, people would judge him a lot more fairly.
Nah. We got Parsons at 12 who's played like a #1 overall. If Clowney was a low 1st Rounder or a 2nd, people would think better of what he's produced. There'd still be disappointment if he were 10th overall.

He signed for a pretty modest sum (~$3.5m) because he wanted to be a Cowboy so I think he might be down to return on a similar salary in '26.
Uh, no. Players come to Dallas for the national exposure to work towards max dollars. You get more eyes seeing you perform maybe you'll get more offers.

Sometimes it’s all about timing. Keep stacking wins and see what happens.
Agreed. Obviously we all would have liked a few wins earlier in the season, but there are plenty of examples of teams getting hot at the end of the season. Can Dallas be one of those teams? That's TBD, but we're all hoping....................

Possibly. But he has to show me he can’t because he skipped training camp and is getting better by the week.
Well that was my point though right he didn't have to have a grueling training camp he didn't have to go through the practices he missed the first Six or seven games he had fresh legs.

What happens when the Cowboys if they say OK we want you to sign another one year deal then they require those dudes to come to training camp to practice and then he's got to play from game one until game 17 That's when these older players peter out you know they don't have the same energy.

Sure out of all the guys that we may wanna keep as pass rushers Maybe he might be the one we choose if we only have to choose one like between Sam Williams Fowler and Clowney if you had to choose one I guess you're saying Clowny and and maybe I agree although Sam Williams is younger he's gonna even be healthier and maybe he arrives next year I think that's why we were talking about that another threat maybe you extend him it's about the age the dude is fast And yes we know about the knucklehead stuff..lol..

Jebadon Clownsey, as the Fake Jerry Jones called him.

Anyway, this guy was a number 1 overall pick for a reason.

He's helping to make this new defensive line come into its own lately and has definitely surprised me some.

He's also a very smart player.

We just need a speed-rusher on the other side. Ezei needs a jump in his play to get there. Mahomes had all day to throw! Good thing Revel was out there instead of elam.

I hope he is brought back. Justin Houston, Clowney and Williams as Depth with EZE and a 1st rd draft pick as the starters sounds like a pretty good rotation to me.
This would be the ideal move to make, good post. The future looks bright now with this defense. The draft needs are pure common sense, Safety - Defensive End - Nickel Corner Back and Linebacker.

I'd definitely be down for that. One of the best in the league....
Hope you had a nice Holiday Pass2Run, I am still very thankful for the big win on Thanksgiving Day. What Dallas needs to do in my opinion is keep Pickens and Javonte Williams and the rest of this offense intact and continue building this defense with Safety- Linebacker -Defensive End and Nickle Corner.

The beast within won't allow him to coast into retirement. Need to get him signed to a deal that is favorable to the Cowboys, that keeps him here for the next 2 or 3 yrs.

So if the 'Boys DO resign Clowney, and they DO spend a 1st or 2nd on a DE, which one currently on the roster is NOT brought back next year?

Guys need to start paying attention to all these moves being made they're really also for twenty twenty six they don't have that many draft picks.

They can gain more if they want to take one of these 1st and turn it to into a couple other ones but right now we don't have a 2nd round pick what do you mean?

Also if somehow they end up trading Pickens for another first round pick which is possible I'm not saying it's gonna happen but if they put a 1st round tender on him if he ends up leaving then yeah we'll have more draft picks we'll have to then add a receiver in there but right now we are over the cap and we don't have very many draft picks,

here enjoy...

  • Round 1: 2 picks (one original, one from the Micah Parsons trade)
  • Round 2: Traded to the New York Jets for Quinnen Williams
  • Round 3: Traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers for George Pickens
  • Round 4: 1 pick
  • Round 5: 3 picks (one original, two compensatory for Jourdan Lewis and DeMarcus Lawrence)
  • Round 6: Traded to the New Orleans Saints for Asim Richards and a 2028 7th round pick
  • Round 7: 1 pick (acquired from the Bengals for Logan Wilson)

Man, that safety would be awesome. I forget his name. But the guy is a baller.
Safety in the 1st round is kind of a luxury pick, but if it's a rare generational talent then go for it, I guess?

I'd like to get a 2, big-time impact players in the 1st (EDGE, CB, etc).

Don't forget, Turn-Steele is likely shown the door after this season if he doesn't step up down the stretch.

Right Tackle, EDGE and CB are more impactful than S, and they all could end up being needs.

Nate Thomas could be an option at Tackle, but I don't think he stops the front office from upgrading if someone we like is there.

It'll be interesting to see if we make any impactful FA signings before the draft.
