And none of em except roger could have lasted in Meredith's era

Troy Aikman took an absolute beating at the beginning of his career. Every time you looked at him his chin was bleeding. He would have been fine during the Meredith era.

Yea I remember sarge. That was not a very well thought out post on my part. I meant it more as an indictment of how brutal the game was back in Meredith's day and the lack of protection afforded to the qbs of that era.
It's really kinda silly to question the toughness of any of those guys. Even tony doesn't get enough credit for just how tough he is.

Ranked according to joseephuss' percentages that show how the QB's passer rating compared to the average passer rating in the league at the time, here are the contributions of the supporting casts:

Staubach
+26.9%

defenses 6th
backs 3rd
10 All-Pro

Romo +20.3%
defenses 15th
backs 15th
6 All-Pro

White +13.2%

defenses 11th
backs 8th
7 All-Pro

Meredith +12.7%

defenses 4th
backs 4th
10 All-Pro

Aikman +8.5%

defenses 3rd
backs 4th
19 All-Pro

All rankings are for the five best seasons. For defenses, I used points allowed. For backs, rushing yards. "All-Pro" is the number of combined offensive All-Pro selections (Associated Press All-NFL 1st or 2nd Team).

1 Romo

2 Aikman
3 staubach

Romo is the only one that can succeed the way he has with this current team.

Keeping in line with some of the theories here, Eli Manning would be a godlike with his 2 Super Bowl rings.

This is not accurate. Troy Aikman, at UCLA, was listed as 6'4" 219 lbs. I've seen Troy Aikman when he was playing and I've seen Romo. They are not the same and the muscle mass that Aikman had as a player was superior. He was bigger guy. I don't know how you can argue against that. It's interesting because Romo was listed at 236 lbs. coming into camp. Weight does not necessarily translate into strength or muscle.

Aikman is in better shape than Romo .......NOW.

So true. I run these stats out every couple of years. It is the QBs passer rating compared to the average passer rating of the league. There are a lot of things to consider when looking at these numbers. The quality of the team around them their entire careers and the types of offenses they ran, but it does provide a decent look at how well each QB did during their respective era.
I hope you don't mind that I used your stat and made an adjustment, looking only at the player's five best seasons.

Aikman
81.6
75.2 league average
8.5% above average

Aikman (5 best seasons)
91.5
75.1 league average
21.8% above average

All the QB ranked, applying that same adjustment:
Staubach 92.7 (61.7) +50.2%
Meredith 82.7 (67.6) +22.3%
Aikman 91.5 (75.1) +21.8%
Romo 96.8 (80.9) +19.7%
White 85.1 (71.2) +19.5%

It depends what the rank is for. In terms of pure talent: Romo>Staubach>Aikman>White>Meredith. If you're going to factor in team accomplishments into equation: Staubach>Aikman>Romo...and White/Meredith are interchangeable.

lol, it really is hard to take some seriously when you read posts like this

And it's equally hard to give a rip about who you take seriously when you can't even be bothered to come up with any kind of reasoning.

Nice work. Eventually I would like to compare each QB to the average of the top 10 QBs(or maybe top 5 QBs) of each season. I just haven't had the time to compile the data.

Feel free to dissect it if you disagree.

Anyone that ranks romo ahead of airman or staubach has some serious issues with reality. Sure aikman had great teams but so did romo to a 13-3 record and still couldn't win a home playoff game. I'm afraid that romo could've had emmitt, novacek, and Irvin and still lost with a critically timed int. qb'ing is more than throwing the ball, it's managing a game, not losing the game, and making a few plays in the clutch. No doubt romo is very talented physically however he's not a great qb. Cutler is physically gifted too but hes not a great qb. Winning trumps everything with a few very minor exceptions....Marino for example, although even he consistently won in the regular season and playoffs....

5-Romo

You got it right...for now.
Depending on how his career ends in a few years, Tony could move ahead of White, but I see no way he moves. Head of the others, despite gaudy stats. Maybe a Lombardy trophy helps him surpass Meredith, but those old enough to have watched Meredith, like me, don't see it.

You could count the number of top 5 or top 10 seasons.

Top 10 Seasons in Passer Rating
Staubach 7 (1971, 73, 75-79)
Aikman 6 (1991-1995, 1998)
Romo 6 (2006-09, 2011-12)
Meredith 6 (1962-63, 65, 66-68)
White 5 (1980-83, 85)

Top 5 Seasons in Passer Rating
Staubach 5 (1971, 73, 77-79)
Aikman 4 (1992-95)
Romo 3 (2006-07, 2011)
Meredith 3 (1962, 66, 68)
White 2 (1981-82)

Average Rank in 5 Best Seasons
Staubach 1st
Aikman 4th
Meredith 4th
Romo 6th
White 7th

That's an excellent tool for comparison, with the caveat that Meredith's rankings are skewed by league size.

I really like this stat...but 19 All-Pro for Aikman? lol ...I'm sure you meant 9 seasons.
