Practice reps?

Romo ain't going to be taking many of those reps, Orton may retire. You need 4 QBs in camp and likely 5 with Romo rehabbing.

True. Mean time Orton is still with the team and has not retired. If he plans on remaining then Weeden would have to beat him out as the #2. If Dallas only carries 2 QB than Weeden will be released. I have not seen anything of a big signing bonus for Weeden so in the end if he does not cut it in camp Dallas can cut him loose no damage done.

It also costs a roster spot. It also costs time and practice reps and coaching that could go to a young player who could develop into something more than a 31 year old turnover machine.

I don't really care about the money, at some point we need to replace Romo and if Weedon is getting in the way of anyone in anyway that might develop into anything than its a bad idea.

they were bringing in 4 arms anyways for tc. this doenst prevent them from drafting a a qb.

People are just frustrated because we're letting go big names and not signing any big names to replace them.

That's completely understandable. I feel that way. But they are doing what they have to do and they can't sign Ware, Peppers yada. That's as much due to cap restraints as it is to what I hope is a more sound fiscal policy of not paying too much for a very few stars but having a more talented roster overall.

Well, Orton is probably going to be traded then.

Could be to Cleveland, haha.

Dallas is not trading Orton, Orton is contemplating retiring now who would trade for a player looking to retire? This is nothing but insurance for the Cowboys

Orton isnt retiring. He would owe the Cowboys 3 million bucks if he did.

This is basically a free look at a guy with a decent arm who between he and Orten can man the ship while Romo takes it easy. I won't be surprised one way or the other if they do or don't draft a QB or even pick one up as an UDFA.

and likely Dallas has no plans to use a high draft pick for a QB that is not news. Dallas plans on going with Romo the Weeden deal is not a big contract or long contract that prevents Dallas from looking to a QB in the near future.

I would rather a 7th round pick than Brandon Weedon. I would rather a UDFA like Romo.

If he was 25 and had two bad years with Cleveland, than sure, whatever. But he's 31. By the time the light ever does come on for him - if it ever does - he may be older than Romo is now.

What's the point? Is the league that short of camp bodies?

Oh, I understand exactly why we're doing what we're doing. We don't have cap space, and it doesn't make sense to keep paying older players huge money. It's just that people are so caught up in the name. And they see other teams signing big names, and we're not, so it just adds to the ever-growing frustration.

@Edwerderespn: Cowboys view Weeden as potential future starter depending, of course, on his development and Tony Romo health next 2 years.

That is one of the most depressing things I've ever read.

He and others have also noted that with Romo's health and Ortons indecision, they need guys to throw and do drills and things during OTAs and camp. Plus he signed for the minimum, no problem with this at all.

They'll likely bring in a draftee or high priority UDFA. The dude is just a glorified camp arm....come off the ledge bro.

He had 2 bad years on a bad team. I have not seen anyone claim he is our future he is here on a small contract and will likely be in camp if he shows he can't do the job then Dallas can cut him no loose. He will be but 1 of 80 players in camp with only 53 making it. He is also an inexperiance QB so to claim he can't improve is nothing more than a guess. If this was a big long term contract then I would be with you but it is not it is a small contract for 2 years and does not even mean he makes the final cut.
