Dez or Mike?

Because Michael did it all. Great hands. Great route running. Very good in YAC. Very good blocking. Hardly ever fumbled (7 in his career). Michael could go deep (as evidenced by his excellent 15.9 yard per reception.

Dez is an incredible WR, however, for whatever reason he has lost of a lot of the escapability he had earlier in his career and his YAC has been going down. He isn't able to outrun people like he did earlier in his career and gets tackled from behind more and more. Dez's yards per reception was 15.0 in 2012 and since dipped to 13.3 in 2013 and 13.1 so far in 2012. Dez has never really been a deep threat per say. Dez has fumbled more more than Irvin (Dez 3 last year and 6 for his career).

Again, I am knit-picking a elite WR in Dez, however, I am doing my best to compare contrast why I think Michael was better.
 
I am yet to see a WR (even most players TBH) smarter and with better Football IQ than Mike..so Mike all day

Dez has a long way to go to ranked with Irvin. Irvin had over 1300 playoff/SB receiving yards and 10 TD's which are numbers exceeded only by Jerry Rice. Irvin had 3 seasons more productive than Dez.
 
I'm 35 and remember Mike well. He was a great player and leader. I don't know why people measure a single players success by Super Bowls. Super Bowls measure the success of a football team. Barry Sanders, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Warren Moon, Eric Dickerson, Ladainian Tomlinson, Tony Gonzalez, Bruce Smith, Junior Seau....... Mike is not "humble" when it comes to his talents. If he says Dez is better, he's being honest. Mike will always be one of my favorite players. A true legend.

Seven fumbles in a 12 year career in which he caught 750 catches. Dez has almost half of that in 4 1/2 years so, it's an unfair variable really when Mike played in a run happy offense. Dez will have more TD's by the end of 2015. Irvin wasn't very fast either. Irvin had the benefit of an all time leading rusher almost his entire career. 2012 was Dez's breakout year. People KNOW who he is now and they game plan for him and he's still going to be a top receiver by the end of the year. 13.3-13.1 is pretty equal and I'll take it all day. I understand the argument for Mike but, it's a really unfair comparison when the game was much different in his era. I think it's less Dez isn't a deep threat vs. Mike as it is Troy had a stronger deep ball than Tony. Tony is a more accurate, agile QB but, Troy had the arm. You see Dez go deep and have to come back for the ball with Tony's deep balls. Troy would put it over your shoulder. That is Troy's stronger game vs. Tony for sure. Different animals, different era.

Troy had a cannon and was a great pocket presence. I will say though, I've been really impressed this year with how Tony has moved in the pocket and made some really great throws. Both great QB's but, the difference is really Troy had the bigger arm and could put it over the shoulder but, if you took away his offensive line
(see 1-15) he couldn't do the things Tony could to extend the play. They're entirely different players and by GOOOD I love them both so much.

Right. Its pretty special having had Roger, then Troy, and now Romo. Troy wouldnt extend plays like Romo, but he was like a surgeon in the pocket executing the passing game. A thing of beauty watching him set up and let it rip.
 
The "Play Maker", no question. He's my favorite Cowboy all-time next to Emmitt Smith.
 
So much for that. Mike over Dez. Dez doesn't run the routes to get separation.

Any fan over 40 should be picking The Playmaker over Dez... I love Dez's passion and heart... and that catch for a TD tonight was amazing...
but the main reason I enjoy having Dez around is that he reminds me of Michael Irvin... so I gotta go with the Playmaker.....then Dez.... then Antonio Bryant...
that guy could throw a jersey and hit you right in the face...:)....chuckle, chuckle, everyone.

Irvin would threaten the 2,000 yard mark if he played in today's game.

Dez is superior on the goal line and catches like vs. Houston, Mike is far superior in every other area.

Or as ron jaworski said when asked by the star-telegram if Mike deserved 1st ballot HOF status

"In all my years of watching tape, no receiver was doubled more than michael irvin and he was still able to thrive. Yes, he should be a first ballot HOF."
 
Like I said earlier, Dez leaves a lot to be desired at times. His hands can be iffy. If you consider yourself the best, you have to catch that ball in the endzone. It was right in his hands and he let a rookie DB knock it out. Like someone said, he doesn't get a lot of separation either.

Also, what's his YAC? Doesn't seem he gets a lot after he catches it.
 
Mike defines the Cowboys to me, no doubt Mike was clutch when it mattered. Dez has great gifts but Mike was great all around!
