News: DC: Cowboys Agree To Terms With Pro Bowl DE Greg Hardy

Sounds very much like we're renting him for a year.

We have a huge amount of cap space available in 2017. If Dallas wants to resign him, they will. They can make the contract similar to Tyron Smith's contract to load money into specific years and spread a big signing bonus out over 5 years.

If he plays and earns all 13.1 mil does not that amount go against the cap?

Looks like we wanted a deal with close to zero risk. The bulk of his pay depends on his being active on gameday so we're completely insulated from a suspension, whatever its length.

In return Hardy gets a deal that provides him with maximum reward if he makes good on his bet on himself.

So be it. Not the deal I would have tried to work out if I were the Cowboys -- I'd have been willing to take far more risk on a player with this profile -- but maybe it was the best they could do.

Damn. Sucks about franchise tag but he's banking on himself and so are we. Maybe this is one of those im staying here no matter but want I just wanna prove myself to get bigger contract.

Why is there all of this trepidation about the rental?

I thought this was the "grand stage", everyone wants to play here, it is easy to just manufacture cap room and there is always the draft?

If you have felt this way at any time during this offseason, you have no reason to gripe.

Someone educate me please.

The per game salary $625k salary is paid only if he plays or on the roster? Do we still pay him if he is injured?

People need to stop. Just because they couldn't work out a long term deal and waived franchise rights doesn't mean that Hardy cannot negotiate with the club between now and next March nor that he doesn't want to be here. We value the DE position for all of not wanting to pay RBs but if he wants to get paid like Watt and Suh then he has to do some proving of himself. His agent is Drew Rosenhaus. People need to quit being naive.

They must have their reasons for a one year deal. I cant imagine Hardy wanted a one year deal? Or did he?

You have to think Hardy is going to have a monster year.

Now. rent AP for a year or two. And join the march to the SB.

Lol don't get negativity of the 1 year deal. Ideally I'd love a long term deal, but this is a great move. After his suspension, we should have a remarkably improved pass rush. And if he preforms at a level that will line him up for a big multiyear deal next year, then you know he must've made a huge impact this year. Love it. Now, lets hopefully find a way to keep McClain and on to the draft.
