Doug Free is a liability

He was pretty bad yesterday, but it was a really bad matchup for him. Not an excuse, just facts. The way they were slanting the backside on our runs really had me wondering if we were telegraphing. Bennett and Avril both made plays where they jumped inside immediately on runs going the other way. It was a little suspect and might mean we need to change something up on those plays.

Yes saying we should have matched Parnells deal and kept him is a huge overreaction.

So please tell me you would feel good about paying Parnell 5 years and 35million with 13m guaranteed when he is already 29 years old and has 6 career starts that were not very impressive starts.

Overreaction at its finest.

You do realize they could negotatiate with him before free agency. It is highly likely that he would have signed for less, especially if they made the offer during the 2014 season.

Free average 5M
Parnell average 6.2M

Free hasn't been good.

PFF has Free as the 51st rated OT (out of 78).

That jells with what I'm seeing. He's been bad on penalties... He's been less than good as a pass blocker and run blocker. Not horrible, but certainly not good.

For comparison Parnell is the 53rd rated OT per PFF. Parnell has been a superior run blocker and better at avoiding penalties but his pass blocking has been bad.

Free has allowed 0 sacks, 2 QB hits and 16 pressures.

Parnell has allowed 1 sack, 11 QB hits and 18 pressures.

I'm not disagreeing but RT is still one of the main priorities.

It's a priority... but there's a 3rd round pick who needs to be given a chance before another early round pick is dropped on the position... especially with the issues at QB, RB and WR... And even DT. I would include CB in that.

I don't envision that third round pick doing much since I was not impress with him during his days with Florida. But that's a wait and see approach. However, add a Safety to that list too.

Free has been a problem all season IMHO. I thought initially he was still injured but now he appears to just have lost a step. The Giants game he flashed a little and looked solid. Last game was abysmal. He could be still hurting but he has a history of being an inconsistent player so I am leaning toward believing what history has shown me about Doug Free.

So you pay for about the same results and hope?

Whatever.

You don't extend those kind of roster fillers. He is okay at best. The Cowboys have enough actual elite talent along the OL that they have to budget for the future. It would have been asinine to add a JAG like Parnell to the list. If you can't replace that in the draft fire your entire scouting department.

Like we did for Crawford?
Even early extensions are not really at discounts.
If it were that easy to avoid overpaying then we would have extended Dez and Murray early on the cheap also.
These agents know the players open market value and wouldn't be in business long convincing their clients to take discounts.

What's wrong with Crawford? He's absorbing all the double teams that Hayden is supposed to be dealing with. Don't turn this into another we need a real 1 tech and Hayden is Gaaaawbage thread..

And are we really comparing Parnell to Dez and Murray? C'mon man....
