What's the biggest difference between Sean Lee & Luke Kuechly?

Nope somehow my post got split up.

So I'll ask again. What does Romo or Dez have to do with this topic?
You said that if our players were so good this team would do a lot better. And I'm telling you that our two best and most important players that have the biggest impact on our teams performance were injured. So I don't get what your point is. You don't think ANY team that loses their best players would struggle to win games? Seahawks without Wilson & Sherman. Pats without Brady & Gronk.

No, my point is so many people here Ay stuff like, "if Lee played in Carolina", "if Dez played in NE"' if Tony played in Arizona", "if JW played in Green Bay", "if Seattle had our OL". All of those guys play here and we have NOTHING. Why? Read a bit more in depth to what folks are really talking about.

We have nothing because for some reason **** just never works out for us. Whether it's the Dez catch, whether it's Romo & Dez getting hurt, Romo fumbling and making a big mistake years ago when we could have done some damage in the playoffs, Lee before this year never was able to stay healthy, he's our core guy on defense. I mean it just adds up. I don't know why but that's just the way it is.

Kuechly is quite simply the better player.

  • Durability - The biggest thing. If you are not available half the time, you cannot get better.
  • Bigger - Much bigger and stronger.
  • Better hair - Sean is getting a little thin up there.

He's an inch taller and around 5lbs heavier. I don't know how you define 'much', but....

Also, the OP said regardless of injuries.

I say if you throw out Lee's concussion issues, they're very close with either guy getting the edge based on what the people around him are doing. Kuechly has a better defensive line, better linebacker accompaniment and a better secondary behind him. I would still give Kuechly the edge, because I think he's a little more explosive.

The front office of the Dallas Cowboys had Luke Kuechly ready to draft in 2012. However, they elected to draft Morris Clayborn. I want some accountability at this point. Years of bad drafting have crippled this football team. Year after year, after year. its a vicious cycle.

Here is a list of the 53 opening day roster for the LBs in 2012, also like to remind everyone that only two remain on the roster currently.

55 Alex Albright ILB
57 Victor Butler OLB
54 Bruce Carter ILB
52 Dan Connor ILB
50 Sean Lee ILB
93 Anthony Spencer OLB
94 DeMarcus Ware OLB
51 Kyle Wilber OLB

Where did this come from. We could not have drafted Luke in that draft if we would have stayed put. Now if you have something that says they traded up to draft Luke and changed their minds after trading up (which sounds crazy) I would like to see it.

However if you are saying they were set to sit at their spot and take Luke but instead traded up to get Morris....than that is bunk because Carolina took him 7 spots before Dallas would have drafted.

I have seen others, or maybe it was you in other posts, talk about how Morris cost us Luke and it just is not true unless they decided to trade up to take luke and if they traded up to take Luke...they would have done it instead of taking Morris.

Who is Lee's highly talented part time replacement counterpart on the team who is ready to go when the inevitable occurs? No one...yeah we are building around him; not replacing him is one in the same.

Yes they built around him so much...they changed his position.

Good grief.

Right.

Trying to get the most out of a talented player and building around him are two very different things. This D is definitely not built around Lee.

Also, Hitchens and Wilson can both play where Lee plays. So the team has absolutely addressed depth behind him.

Lee doesn't even play MLB anymore. I don't see how this is a shock.

It is like saying Peyton is better than Romo. It is not an insult.

Comparing a sure fire first ballot hall of fame Quarterback, whom many people believe to be the best ever at his position to a very good potential hallf of fame quarterback is nothing like comparing a very good young linebacker to another very good linebacker who has been beset with injury issues. It's not even close. One is essentially a compliment. One is simply a comparison.

That Kuechly is considered the better MLB.

Sean never even made the Pro Bowl before this year.

I think it's pretty safe to say that without the injuries, Sean Lee has a good collection of Pro-Bowls, which is why the original poster essentially said to throw out his injury history. Something everyone just decided to ignore.

On the field, when they're both on the field, they are very very close in talent levels. I give a slight edge to Kuechly because he is a little more explosive.

Sean doesn't play in a 4-3 with 4 elite DL in front of him that go after the QB on every down, allowing the linebackers to just focus on one thing (coverage). Kuechly is great but there's nothing he does better than Lee.

What? Kuechly gets more picks, plays more games, forces more fumbles, and makes WAY more tackles. He does everything better than Lee. They have played nearly the same number of games, even though Lee has been playing 2 more years.

You mean besides this year, right? Lee had more tackles than Kuechly this year, in one more game. So all things fair, they'd probably have come out very even.

Throw out the two years Lee lost to injury (you know, like the original poster specified), and they actually have very similar stats. It's kind of creepy.

Are you seriously comparing 2 guys by just looking at their stats?

We're talking about skill. Thats the only thing you can look at and compare guys. Stats don't mean ****. Stokley had 1500 yards one year with the Colts. Not that hard when you have Peyton throwing you the ball and Reggie Wayne & Marvin Harrison outside giving you easy matchups in the slot.

Sean Lee has more awareness than Kuechly, he's smarter, he's as good of a tackler if not better, and he's easily the best cover linebacker in the game. Plus he has shown this year how good of a blitzer he can be if you allow him to rush. Kuechly doesn't get to do it, the Panthers drop him in coverage all the time. He gets more opportunities to make plays in coverage, Sean because of how weak our defense was and how little pass rush we had was forced to play the run, rush the passer and maybe play coverage a little, but mostly it was everything. All Kuechly does is drop back, he doesn't have to worry about anything else. Doesn't mean he sucks, he's great, a top 3 LB in the NFL right now. Back to the original statement: Does he do anything better than Lee? No. He's not a better pass rusher, he's not a better run stopper, he's not better in coverage, and he sure as hell doesn't have as much experience/knowledge.

60 games in 6 years for Lee- 421 tackles 2.5 sacks 12 Ints (only part time Year One because of injuries)
61 games in 4 years for Kuechly- 592 tackles 7 sacks 11 Ints

Even if you give Lee 100 tackles for 2010 he is well behind.
Lee's best year is comparable to Kuechly's worst year.
