Seems plausible. Romo is a good dude and very wealthy man.

Jay Cutker is not taking any losses or doing a club any favors but I believe Tony would consider something sensible

Name a franchise QB who is a known competitor that took a backseat and was ok with just becoming a backup. I can't think of any player of Romo's caliber that has done that.

Future coach???? Playing for the Jets wouldn't change that ......they just had Favre Day in GB...we were there

This thread is about the numbers not sentimental feelings

No, this thread is about the latest fan phase. Jumping on a bandwagon.

This isn't about advocating either position...just what some of the scenarios will be

It wasn't a poke at your post, friend. Just the generalization of the typical mess I read, and hear on the matter.

Well we can discuss Favre and why there was Favre day another time.

If Romo retired and they went after his signing bonuses it would absolutely change any future he had with the club. If they flat out traded Romo without his input it would flat out change any future he had with the club. I never said him willingly playing for another club would have an impact on his future with this organization in the future. I am saying that he would be bitter if they did the above that you stated, like suing him for his SB. You can't just merely talk numbers when discussing a 14 year veteran who has been the face of the franchise for the better part of a decade. He is the homegrown boy and the Jones are are very fond of him. That has to be taken into consideration
that is a two way street you are driving on......I laid out a scenario for him to stay and get paid 15m

if you think that is disrespectful then I am not the one being naive

You can't have 2 starting QBs ........something has to give........DAL has to be prepared
Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers
Joe Montana, Steve Young,
Craig Morton, Roger Staubach.

All of these are similar situations, and all took a few years to change over completely.

The only way Romo leaves Dallas is by being released. He'd be an idiot to take a paycut, and no one is taking his current salary. I hope it doesn't come to that. Having Romo is a luxury right now.

Never used the term disrespectful

What you are proposing is not in Romo's DNA. He will not take 15m to sit as a backup. He will want the opportunity to take his job back or start for another franchise. That's what competitors do. If he did as you suggested, I would change my entire perception of Romo and everything he's stood for. A guy who gets his lung puncutured and comes back and wins a football game is not a guy who accepts being a backup.

you are just guessing at things......I have no clue what will happen but for you to talk in absolutes about Romo's mindset premature......the only thing I do know is they will not carry a 24.7m cap hit next year

Things are a lot different now.....the circus hasn't even started and it is almost unbearable

only part I agree with is they won't carry the cap hit. You are insinuating that Romo will accept a backup role is you talking in absolutes as well. I'm saying he won't, therefore that talk is ridiculous. I gave you reasons why. What would lead you to believe he would accept 15m and a backup role? What in Romo's history would suggest that?

it really isn't up to him......DAL isn't paying him 54m over the next 3 years .....he has 0 guaranteed money left so he has no leverage...... if he wants to stay in DAL he needs to take a major pay cut

The way I set up his contract gives him a lot more money if he wants to start for someone else, 3yr/41m compared to 2yr/15m to stay and be QB2

If he retires DAL can go after at least 5m of his SB that was already paid and could subtract that from his one time dead money hit of 19.6m in 2017

One thing Jerry did right was to back load Tony's contract in the final years of his contract possibly knowing that Tony will retire or move on from Dallas. If he does accept a 2 year/15 million as a backup thats really not bad at all riding the bench holding a clipboard. Heck, he already made a lot money more than he can spend. Why not enjoy the game from the sidelines and make money doing it also?

It just seems to me there are quite a few Zoners looking at this from a completely different perspective than that of the Cowboys brass. It appears to me they see Dak as the backup, and his job is to continue to fill in as the starter at QB and beat the Eagles and the Browns. After that, if all systems with Tony are go, it will be his job to beat the Steelers and take us from there to the Super Bowl. Of course, this is the NFL so it is all event-driven, and future starting assignments will be adjusted accordingly, but right now Tony is viewed as the starting QB once he is ready to return.

Its nuts to give a 37 year old QB who's had injury problems any more guaranteed money.

And what will be the excuse when Dak collapses? He has played 6 games. He hasn't yet played to Tony's level. He might turn into another RGIII.
yet played to Tony's level? please check Tony's level last year which are the only relevant stats since he's 36 going on 37 . you guys just need to let go

Simply put, there are too many if, ands or buts in the Romo/Cowboys scenario to make assumptions about the possibilities between those two. The FO hasn't been totally forthcoming with the medical details concerning Romo's health, with specific reference to his back issues. Without question, it's somwhat understandable if the team feels it's unwise to make the opposition aware of his specific spinal difficulties, although it's not exactly a secret at this point that his back isn't likely to be invulnerable to further injury.

In addition to Romo's back issues being an unknown to us at this time, it's also unknown whether or not he would be amenable to taking a serious pay cut, simply to remain on the team. Another unknown is whether or not he'd be agreeable to stick around as a backup. Most QBs who have served as a starter for so many years would never find it acceptable.

Yet another indefinite solution to the problem might come when we know exactly what a prospective partner in a trade scenario might be willing to offer for Romo's services. It most likely wouldn't be enough to make up for the cap hit that the Cowboys would suffer.

The facts are sure to become revealed in time but for the present, the unknowns are simply too numerous and vague to lend themselves to making future plans regarding Tony's career a predictable venture. Expect it to take a good while yet before all of this becomes clear.

Romo's salary cap hit of 24.7m next year in untenable.....it has to be reduced and who is the starter is of utmost importance.....but these are just the scenarios for Romo.......staying the course is not one of them
I don't understand why you speak for someone else with so much certainty.
You are removing any scenario that you don't personally agree with and attempting to shut down any others by speaking like you are Jerry and Stephen Jones.

Regardless of how I feel about your opinions on this subject, it's still kind of weird my man.
