Even though I foresee Romo remaining with the team until June 2, I hope that a trade gets worked out long before then. This is possibly a huge offseason story that will hang over the team. An early trade would undercut any attention the story would attract. My question would be which team would be willing to bargain with Dallas early on, say March?

Houston makes the most sense, but I don't see Jerry allowing that to happen. He goes to great lengths to keep Houston as the junior varsity pro team in Texas, and Romo would make them just as popular as the Cowboys, albeit for only a couple of years.

The best move by far is to convince Romo to stay. Have the best QB situation in the NFL. Look what happened to the Raiders.

I'm hoping for a Day 2 pick for Romo, Houston would be a great fit but I'm not sure what their ability is to carry two large QB contracts.

Does not make as much sense as you would think since they are going to pay Osweiler big money. They cannot afford two QB contracts like that, or at least they shouldn't.

I look right at cap money when wagering where he would go. Chicago is in good shape.

I doubt a team tight against the cap is going to risk it for a player that at best has a two year shelf life going forward. That eliminates the Texans, Broncos, Jets and even Buffalo unless they get real creative and want to really roll the dice thinking he puts them over the top.

I think the Texans are a great fit. The Osweiler deal is a mistake, there's no disputing that. But you don't follow up one mistake in signing him with another in keeping him as your starter and wasting another entire season.

Would the cost of both in 2017 be huge? Sure it would, close to $33 million. But they'd be a Super Bowl contender. And able to jettison Osweiler in 2018 with a hit of $6 million.

The Texans are a team with virtually everything but a starting quarterback, and a team that they can't keep together indefinitely. At some point, they'll have to strike while the iron is hot.

Coughlin thinks you are out of your mind.

Yeah, that is the look you have probably had on your face all your life.

I'd give them a first + Romo all day long for Clowney.

I wouldn't give them the 1st rounder and the top quarterback they so desperately need. Especially considering the contract Clowney will likely command when his time comes.

And, as good as he is, his injuries will always scare me.

This is going to be a loooooonnnnnngggg offseason with trade proposals involving Romo and top shelf players in their prime.

I don't understand how or why our fans really think he is going to fetch much of anything, let alone players like Clowney.

I'm not saying that, I'm saying Romo plus draft picks for Clowney. Romo should and could have value to the Texans.

We should keep him and start him next year, after having open QB competition which he will win and won this year, but we didn't want to screw up the momentum which killed us in the playoffs with our slow start, which existed in Philly too until Romo came in and lit up the field in a matter of seconds.. and we wouldn't be left to question what would have been with Romo and Zeke...

Couldn't agree more. Houston is the most logical fit for him. Only thing in the way is the contract they paid Osweiler. But if they are being honest with themselves, they would know that they are not going anywhere with him. Romo at least gives them the chance to win a divisional round game.. even though he was never able to do it here. AFC is weaker though.

In that case, I see Romo taking the 20:1 odds. I think he will weigh his limited options of teams with a good chance of competing in the postseason right now with him versus teams that do not. Chicago is one of the latter teams.

That is never going to happen. Romo is 100% done here. Can't pay a backup QB that kind of money.

I think Romo ended all open quarterback competition speculation back on November 15.

Yeah, and they won their division in spite of Osweiler so they know the kind of team that they do have. The running back is there, the receivers too, and their TE is up and coming. The offensive line could use some draft help, but the defense is up there among the best in the league.

The glaring hole is at quarterback.

They either take their shot with Romo, or lament the same issues in 2017 that they had this year.

He said it lit the competitive fire in him.. though it's almost insulting to HIM to say he needs to compete against Dak. and the organization was and is vague about him still.

Let a man dream OK...

For the record I'd deal our #1 and Romo for Clowney in a heartbeat, but there is no way the Texans would do that.

If we get Clowney that would be great for both teams ...

But I just can't see Jerry being happy with another Texas team
getting the attention a possible Romo Superbowl run would bring.

I know he says Romo would bring a Superbowl to where ever he goes to,
but I can't see him wanting that for any other team than the Cowboys.

Seems like a line is being drawn in the sand concerning general opinion about Romo going to Houston. Osweiler and his contracts are definitely strong debatable points but the argument doesn't prevent Romo from becoming a Texan--either by trade or free agent acquisition.

I used to think he was going to go to Denver, but I think Houston looks more appealing for him. They have a running back, wide receiver and solid defense. He's played in a dome in Texas his whole career so I think he chooses Houston.

I don't see him getting traded. Teams will just wait.

The most likely scenario is that he's released in June, and he signs where he wants. Dallas gets nothing but a couple million in cap space. That's it.
