Hope Ron doesn't end up w the Giants or Commanders......ouch
Or imagine Greenbay or Atlanta w Leary. Owwie
I hope so! I hate thinking of him as a giant, Commander, or eagle.I don't think he would end up on New York. They have Pugh at guard and Richburg at center. If they are going to upgrade it's at tackle.
The Skins have Scherff who is a monster. They also have Lauvao under contract for a solid 4 million next year. They have to possibly re-sign Kirk and need to fix their defense. I just don't see them investing another 30 million on Leary. Also keep in mind Scherff's contract is up after 2018. So they'd have tons of money locked up on two guards.
Not sure how much money they can afford to pay a G. I'm sure there is a chart somewhere. What you want to do is get these guys on the cheap thru the draft. I facilate between keeping him and letting him walk. If I take a hard line I see the benefit in letting him go and drafting a replacement R1-4. You can get a good G in R3 and R4. Collins can play G and on a high level whether you want to argue it is less than Leary or not.
The pressing need is a RT. My guess is Green is the guy and he is thru his run of injuries. I hope so as he can play the position well enough.
That leave most of the picks on D with only WR and maybe TE as a need or want on O.
Don't be surprised to see them still take the BPA even if he is O v D.
The problem with banking on Green is he cannot be trusted to play. The guy is injury prone as they come!!!

Exactly @Derinyar he will demand more money and he will get paid no question about that with a o-line needy team. As for Collins he has the skill set to be a top 5 G in the NFL and this past season he did start off slow against the Giants and he did start to pick it up before the foot injury costs him to miss most of the season and Leary came in and they took off with the ground game no question Leary will be missed but the team can move on without him with Collins who can and has already showed his rookie season imo can be even better than Leary so yes if they can sign Leary to a team friendly deal for then go for it but if not then he will walk.Jacksonville makes sense as they still need to spend money and still aren't that good on the line. Seattle has money to spend, iirc, and has a definite need at probably 4 of 5 line positions. Browns, Niners, Bears, Colts, Vikings, Rams, Giants all have cap room and all can use some help on the oline.
Someone who has to spend money will give him money. Or someone who really needs Leary. I just don't see that it makes sense to put money into the forth best player on the line when he's not one of the truly elite at his position.
Its the issue of 600k and then probably somewhere around 2 million vs 15+ guaranteed for a 4+ year deal. For the next two years Leary has to be an all pro level player to be worth the difference in cost and to make the allocation of assets worth it. I think he will look better here then where ever he goes next. Fredrick, I think, really helps out his guards.Exactly @Derinyar he will demand more money and he will get paid no question about that with a o-line needy team. That is true but we don't know if Jerry promised him anything to pick us as an UDFA
He can actually negotiate a new deal this off-season
I agree that Frederick being a Top 5 center does make some guards look good we shall find out soon enough if Leary is as good as his asking price suggest that he is.Its the issue of 600k and then probably somewhere around 2 million vs 15+ guaranteed for a 4+ year deal. The Cowboys are going to have to pay Martin a huge contract in a year or two. We can't keep 4 high priced lineman. Look at our salary there vs. the rest of the NFL. It's debatable whether we can afford a 3rd OL, much less a 4th among the highest paid. Paying Leary a big contract would represent fiscal stupidity, as would paying Collins a huge deal in the next 2 years.
If we have 3 highly paid OL, fact is the other 2 starters and the backups can't be big contract guys. Unless our defense is going to be built on Mayowa and rookies. We're going to have to roll with our big 3 and then guys like Cooper around them.
Anyone care to hazard a guess about who will sign him and what his contract will cost? We get a one year rental on Collins and then he will have to be signed or hit the market too.
Would it be better to resign Leary and trade Collins? He might bring a high pick and offset Learys cap hit.
Think we are unlikely to resign Leary because we still need to pay that Martin guyIf they resign Leary then I'm guessing they want to at least try Collins at RT. Not certain for sure but a good guess.
I doubt either are on the roster next year. Question is what happens at RTletting Leary walk to keep Doug Free is just stupid....
