Does Dez Fit?

To start, I want to say that I'm a Dez fan but I have to wonder, does he fit what THIS offense really wants to do?

Hear me out. When the ball had to be thrown 30-40+ times per game matched with Romo's QB style, Dez made all the sense in the world. Signing him to the big deal made a ton of sense. He was destined to compete with Julio Jones for the best receiver in the NFL crown.

Now, the offense has changed with Dak and Zeke. We are similar to the Seahawks from their super bowl years and I almost feel that we would be better with Williams and another receiver like him(Doug Baldwin type) on the other side with Beasley and Witten to move the chains. We are paying Dez a ton to be just a GOOD player in this offense.

I believe that Dez is as talented as just about anybody in the league but this ball control, grind it out offense doesn't utilize him. Is it worth it to pay him for an offense that doesn't use his full potential?

Sure, there may be a game here or there where we bust the glass and he has a huge game or Dak may learn to push the ball down the field more.

I'm sure we won't unload him but Dez was the picture of a 'Romo friendly' player...would it be unfair to reason that moving on from both of them would make a lot of sense(especially for the right compensation)?
Yes, yes he does.

Dez is a talented head case who plays his best when he doesn't allow defenders to get under his skin. When he gets frustrated he's not very good and becomes a detriment.

Is there a team where Dez doesn't fit?

Seriously? The offense hasn't changed that much with the addition of Dak & Zeke. It is still a timing-based offense that focuses on moving the chains 10 yards at a time. It's not an overly "vertical" offense, nor was it when Romo was our QB. You need a big possession receiver who can win 1-on-1 matchups. His game against Green Bay was indicative of what he can do for this offense. Dez is a strong possession receiver who can also get deep on occasion.

Did you watch the playoffs and the final few games?

Dez and Dak took awhile to get on the same page.

It took awhile for Romo and Dez to get on the same page.

Dez had one of his best years in 2014 when we were run first. All of Dez's failures this year can be blamed at the lack of chemistry with Dak. We are seeing that starting to change. Remember, due to injuries and Dak starting as a backup...they didn't get a ton of work together in practice.

I fully expect Dez to return to his dominant ways if he can stay healthy.

The chemistry was there as they started clicking, and I expect it to be closer to the Romo-Dez connection with an off-season and with them being able to communicate as a Prescott-Dez connection. Dez fits any offense, they got respect the big receiver to open the run or vise versa.

Yeah I remember when Dez was in his first few years, him and Romo were often on the wrong page. It took 2.5 years for them to develop that deadly chemistry.

It seems like him and Dak are trending that direction already.

I don't think you can blame Dak for Dez' lack of chemistry with Dak. Dak seemed to be "in sync" with every receiver except him. I will say that the type of throws that are often made to Dez are a slightly tougher throw on average, but Dak has shown that if Dez can get separation he will get him the ball with sufficient timing and accuracy.

Dez failure to take full advantage of this offense is mostly due to his failure, as a route runner, to get separation.

To OP...Dez has a pricey contract that would be difficult to trade.

I like the chance he has to improve and really help the team. His route running can still improve if he works at it.

He was very productive in our playoff game - 9 catches 132 yards. 2 TD. Nice. and I like the odds of him coming up big in 2017.

WR's have much less value than DE's. Consider trading Bryant and Romo or a pick to move up for a hardnosed DL! It makes some sense. Bryant has a killer game against Green Bay...excellent big time RW type game...Club loses...poor defense. Defenses win the big games. If the club really wants to move forward and grab a killer DL... they must give up something.

Dez just balled out in the playoffs with several clutch plays.......yeah he fits just fine and Dallas NEEDS him.

hr, here's the thing:
If we were to trade Dez, his bonuses would accelerate and come due to the tune of $12 mil...a hit we don't need right now for a player that wouldn't be on our roster.

And
His base salaries of $38 mil over 3 would very much soften his trade value. That's the same kind of money Julio is making.

Dez is a Cowboy...let's hope for a return of the production we saw in '13 and '14.

Only add to this post to come up with..............Huh?

I can't disagree. Dez doesn't get good separation, I believe part of that is on the coaching staff by not putting him in a position to take advantage of his strengths, part of it is on him. Dak seems to be realizing that you can throw it to Dez even when he is covered though.

If we can take one positive from the playoff loss, it's the connection between Dak and Dez. Dez was actually lining up and running routes that take advantage of his strengths and Dak was relying heavily on his best playmaker to do what he does best, make plays.

He's not in Julio Jones,Antonio Bryant or A.J.Green' level but he is better than the tier 3 guys.

Finally someone who understands how the cap works

They're stuck with him. His 2017 salary is guaranteed and no other team would trade for him at that number (13M).

Jerry should just hire Larry Allen or Mike Tyson to punch Dez in the face everytime he does something stupid like being late to meetings, losing concentration during games, trying to show up CBs but usually getting shown up in the process, etc..
