I still say there is nothing quite like first week in the NFL overreactions.

Let's let the kid play a few games before we start expecting Hall of Fame play.
Holding any NFL offense to three points is great defensive play. I don't care who it is. But we will not know how good this defense is until the fourth or fifth game when we have all of our guys back and we are finally beyond preseason. I think Smith has to play to work himself back into the player he once was , but I also think that he has more physical healing to do. He's getting there.

He won't be a war daddy if the scheme only allows him to make plays 5-7 yards downfield.

Sorry folks, you are not a "War Daddy" unless you are a defensive lineman dominating in the thick of a war. You are in the trenches, first line of defense. Linebackers have the benefit of "cleaning up" whatever is left over. They have the benefit of surprise when it comes to rushing the quarterback. They are "protected" by the guys up front. War Daddies do their damage up front at the point of attack.

They do their damage in the games that are remembered by all NFL fans.

Regular season games are just skirmishes. I don't blame anybody for misunderstanding this, most of you have very little or no experience with playoffs and their true ramifications.

When it is all or nothing....when it is win or go home......when a single defensive play determines a team's survival.....when a clear cut message has to be sent that it stops right here.....that's when you need your War Daddy.

Do you know which NFL player holds the record for playoff sacks? You should...he was a Cowboy, played for no other.

He is the only defensive lineman in NFL history to record 2 or more sacks in a playoff game 4 different times.

Every other D-lineman he played alongside was a top 5 overall pick in the draft but he was the Enforcer. He stopped drives cold. He deserved to be in the Hall of Fame but there was just too much animosity towards the Cowboys...they just wouldn't stop winning.

How many DE's in the NFL are Super Bowl MVP's? The opponent quarterback that day had a passer rating of 0.0.....that's right....zero!

Harvey Banks Martin......"Too Mean" Martin is gone now, passed away long before his time on Christmas Eve 2001 at the age of 51, but there was your real "War Daddy".

#79

They didn't record regular season sacks back then. If they did then he would have left Strahan and anyone else in the dust.

We have one candidate today.

In a war, you gotta lay down D Law.

In his first playoff game, Demarcus Lawrence sacked the quarterback,, forced one fumble and recovered two fumbles......all in the last two minutes of the game.

The following week, in a close loss, he sacked Aaron Rodgers for a ten yard loss with less than a minute to go in the 1st half as the Packers were driving for a TD. They had to settle for a field goal as time ran out.

How did he do last Sunday?

Hard to argue with Rod's plan last Sunday, but I agree it's something I'd like the to unveil at some point.

OMG....:omg:

OBJ is out...Giants line is a mess...And then all of a sudden Marinellie is a genius...and our D is fixed. Couldn't be further from the truth. We got lucky the Giants are a trainwreck.

Jaylon Smith.

Watched alot of pre-game and post-game video of him.

He's the teal thing and only 70-80% there!

He reminds me of DAK in that he's cerebral and mesurers his words well..

He 1000% us and not 1 percent me.

Championship.

Comments?
Jaylon is definitely a player, but he looks small for an ILB.

The last time the Cowboys held a team to fewer points than what you saw on Sunday was at the end of the 2009 season. The Cowboys defense was ranked #2 in the NFL that year in Points Against.

The Cowboy defense played that game without two contributing D-linemen due to suspension, their starting middle linebacker was out with an injury, and then the CB that was probably going to defend OBJ went out in the first quarter of the game. To me, that kind of makes things a little more even.

The Giants are a mess because that Cowboy defense made them a mess. That offense, still with Eli, are dead in the water to everybody else until Eli suddenly remembers that he is a Manning and , next thing you know, they are magically resurrected. Don't count them out! With two minutes left, it still could have gone the other way, many of us remember those kind of games from a division opponent.

Besides that, how many Cowboys defensive rookies contributed? How many young unproven guys getting their big chance came up with a play or two? Why would anyone believe that they won't improve every week as they learn more about playing NFL football, their opponents, their team, and themselves.

They got lucky? We haven't seen anything yet.

Its specifically an edge rusher
I think the term is more for any defensive lineman (trench player) that is a consistent, disruptive force. Someone who teams have to game plan for and double team.

Reggie White was one. Aaron Donald is one. Both are defensive tackles.

Jaylon is blazing fast. He's one of the reasons why it was so difficult for the giants to establish their run.
