Dez already asked to take a pay cut?

This, according to DeMarcus Ware.

"They're going to go - they already went to Dez and said we're not going to pay you 12.5, can you do something for us to help out the team? If you say no, I'm not going to take a pay cut - guess what, you're not going to be with the Dallas Cowboys.”

There were some on this board that doubted whether this conversation would happen. It apparently already has.

Personally, I’d rather cut him then have him at a reduced salary. Dez’s better years are behind him.

He’s not capable of carrying the #1 WR mantle at this point in his career. He’s top 5 in the league in drops, which are drive killers, and he handles the ball carelessly. They’re covering him 1 on 1 now, he doesn’t have the speed to scare anyone and is unreliable as a red zone threat.

Wide receiver will be a major priority this off season.

What actually concerns me more than the potential moving on with out Dez, is the fear that they over inflate the value of replacing him, and reach in the draft too early.

I'm not sure Ware would have the inside scoop on these conversations. I'm sure if this conversation had actually happened it would've been picked up by several major news outlets by now.
I don't know,
Don't you call your buddies? I know I spend way too much time talking, so no different for anyone,, I'm sure Ware still has a few close friends on this roster that he still raps with.

I think Dez still has some skill but he cannot get it together upstairs for some reason and makes poor personal decisions during games that have been adversely impacting the team.

The chemistry issues or whatever they are with Dak are a concern - they played two years together now with no improvement. I hear people say just throw it to him when he is covered because he will win those battles. Well he hasn't won those battles in a few years and when Dak has tried to get him the ball he has thrown up the alligator arms instead to knocking down passes that are picked off, having balls bounce off his hands being picked off or fumbling when he does make the catch. Gee, I have no idea why Dak is hesitant to throw him the ball anymore and its not like he didn't try. I think Dez had some of the most targets in the league.

Big pay cut or move on.

If this conversation had taken place already, we would know in several ways. When it does happen, I expect Dez to not take it well. It will be like a fart inside a space suit-you will smell it.

We will see how mature Dez is.

I've heard this song and dance before

Wake me up when Dez actually takes a significant pay cut or is released

The dreamers are back..
Dez will be a cowboy next year ladies.

Even if he has slipped and you want to bring in a replacement I don’t see how we are a better team without him and eating 8 million of salary..plus the cost to replace..it’s a net loss.
If you want to draft a young WR then great...he plays on the side Dez doesn’t.

You may as well get used to it.
Dez will take a cut to stay a cowboy.

To be honest if I was him I'll shave off some my salary but not my guarantee. Tell them to give it back as a bonus if he hit certain marks. After next year it is what it is. Regardless we don't have anyone that can fill his void. But this team shouldn't stop a Dez. Other players too

Tyron
Lee
Scan

Bang up guys with high contract.

The problem is Dez is not a #1 WR-- but he is a great #2. Twill is not a great #2 WR-- but he is a solid #3. Beasley is a role player nothing more.

If you cut Dez-- you now need a #1 AND #2 WRs. This team will not spend in free agency and try to build through the draft. I'm fine with investing a first round pick at WR-- but we're still too thin at the position w/o Dez IMO, with too many additional holes to fill to invest another top 100 pick in the position.

Therefore-- the best case situation is to ask Dez to take a paycut-- and draft a #1 WR in April. Then-- you part ways with Dez after next year.

Tyron Smith should need to give salary back.
That guy hasn’t played half the season and when he did he was getting dominated by journeymen DE’s and LBers.

We need to be careful with Frederick also. He was bent over pretty hard most of the season. Our line as a whole was beaten all season

It's no dream.. Coming from one of the biggest Dez defenders on this board over the years, it's reality....

That said... I believe he will indeed take a pay cut to stay because he loves Texas. To add, if the taking a pay cut negotiation shows any signs of a severely bruised ego continuing to poison the environment, he must be cut. It is now time for Dez to put on his big boy pants or go sit in someone else's corner and whine next year.

Ware is just relaying his own Cowboy experiences from when he was asked to take a paycut. Nobody in the organization is calling up no damn Demarcus freaking Ware to give him the scoop on the happenings of the roster.
