Dez already asked to take a pay cut?

Depends on how the draft unfolds. If you cut Dez-- then you HAVE to take a WR in round one. If he's on the roster-- we won't have to force the decision and have a bit more flexibility to let the draft come to us.
Thats actually what concerns me the most,
an over reaction and a desperate reach for a replacement part,,, we did that for how many drafts after Charles Haley?

If they asked him to take a pay cut the whole thing will unravel. Which is good because I don't want him to take another snap with this team.

Hopefully Dez forces them to move on.
Given the big stink he made (about not wanting to be franchise tagged before he eventually got his $70M deal), his pride, and his delusion that he's still a dominant WR1 will force Jerry's hand.

Mine too... Which is why I am advocating keeping Dez one more year. Add some talent in the draft this year and see how Dez bounces back. He claims he's been hurt and the scheme has hindered him. If we change OCs and he's healthy-- Dez may indeed rebound nicely for a year or two.

Yes, the underachievement, unproductivity at WR spawns relentless commentary.
We scrapped the entire secondary last year,
why not scrap the entire WR group this year.
I like the upside.
.....then we'll hear....they haven't meshed yet (in Week 10).

I firmly believe we should keep Dez.

Give it an offseason to calm down, and work with Dak. Hopefully next year will be distraction free from our drama seeking owner, and it will help the performance on the field.

Nearly 50% of the balls thrown to Dez were uncatchable. Then when they were catchable he dropped them.

Give it one last try. He just needs another WR on this team worth a damn. Williams as the No 2 has to end. He has no ball skills whatsoever. Start Butler over him, or go out and get someone in FA like Stepfon Diggs. Just checked I don't think Diggs is a FA, so nvm

It kinda forces you to draft for need rather than just take the best player so it’s a concern. Just got to hope they listen to the scouts or address it in FA

Yes, but why is that... all due respect, why because you loose really what we currently have at WR1, the "current" production, the "true" value of that position on this team, considering how this offense is currently built. Why be forced into reaching,,,

Not saying we neglect the WR position by absolutely no means, I personally would love to see the entire positional group upgrades, who wouldn't, and if Calvin Ridley might be sitting there,, that would be a nice weapon target upgrade for Dak asap,,, but this draft has some nice depth for receiving options.

Did this actually happen or is ware speculating based on his own experience. This is what Jerry did to him and ware was livid and jumped on a plane to Denver.

Now ware is a super bowl champion.

He could probably be very effective in the perfect situation,, I wont even try and pretend to represent every teams individual cap situations, but I could easily see a Dez Bryant Josh Gordon pairing... and I don't say that with any negative sarcasm,, at all.

This, according to DeMarcus Ware.

"They're going to go - they already went to Dez and said we're not going to pay you 12.5, can you do something for us to help out the team? If you say no, I'm not going to take a pay cut - guess what, you're not going to be with the Dallas Cowboys.”

There were some on this board that doubted whether this conversation would happen. It apparently already has.

Personally, I’d rather cut him then have him at a reduced salary. Dez’s better years are behind him.

He’s not capable of carrying the #1 WR mantle at this point in his career. He’s top 5 in the league in drops, which are drive killers, and he handles the ball carelessly. They’re covering him 1 on 1 now, he doesn’t have the speed to scare anyone and is unreliable as a red zone threat.

Wide receiver will be a major priority this off season.
I don’t believe this is factual, probably more guesswork by Ware. Think about it....the Cowboys know how emotional and easily distracted Dez can be. Even if this is the direction they will go, I don’t believe they are dumb enough to have this conversation in season while fighting for the playoffs and have Dez distracted or upset, not focused on his game...it’s just too easy to wait and have that chat after the season.

I’m not sure I want him back. If he made the plays he needed to make the salary would be fine. Those drops are totally murder. Every ball that’s above his head goes right through his hands. Bring in a reliable vet receiver that can catch the ball . Then draft one in the first few rounds. Again. Somebody who is not a body catcher.

This is my point exactly. If you look at what makes a team successful, it’s actually quite simple. It’s turnover ratio, time of possession and sustained drives.

Dez is in the TOP 5 in drops this season. I can’t emphasize just how bad that is. Those drops kill drives resulting in short drives, less time of possession, worse field position and, of course, losses.

In the NFL, successful franchises release players before they begin their decline. Dez has already started his downhill spiral. He won’t be better next season. We need to move on.

If he goes, he is likely to be a June 1 cut in order to split the cap hit over two years. That would be after the draft.

And unlike quarterback, you can find good wide outs later in the draft. We can also look to feee agency.

finding a WR late in the draft to be your #1 WR...doubtful, they would need time to develop even as most 1st rounders do. Also this team does not participate in top tier FA's.
