Rosters are never cemented - otherwise, there'd be no point in a draft. Dez will be on a 2018 roster. Might very well be making less, but he can save face by going to a contender. I think that is much more likely than taking a pay cut and staying.

Unless they are planning on signing another FA, I don't understand what they gain by kicking his CAP number down the road.

Rollover his cap space into next year? I have no idea.

It's why I asked why they seemingly have this hard deadline now that something has to be done by late next week. Why do they need the cap space now?

Oh look. Another Dez thread.

I'm going to start a thread about when he lines up on the left side and then tomorrow I'll start a thread about when he lines up on the right. Friday I'll start a thread about what he eats for breakfast. Saturday I'll start one on what he likes better, cauliflower or broccoli. LOL.

The walls are about to close in on Dez Bryant.

The Cowboys aren't paying him his current salary next year. He says he won't take a pay cut.

But free agency lingers on. The money is drying up. The draft is around the corner. Rosters are cementing around the league.

Whenever Dallas makes their counter offer, it will exceed what teams have to offer on the open market. It'll be "take it or leave it", and he'll either stay where he's comfortable for a LOT less money, or he'll leave in defiance and take an even lesser prove-it deal elsewhere.

A team out there might be about to get a really good receiver for very cheap. Green Bay? New Orleans? New England? Seattle? Philadelphia?

The biggest thing Dez has going against him right now is that I don't think the Cowboys really care if he's here or not.

IF we did cut him, I am sure without a doubt that the Rams would pick him up, pay him and then have him wreak havoc again on the NFL with a real QB. Is it really checkmate if we aren't getting better by cutting him, but instead making another team and more than likely and NFC team, better by adding him?
The point is, he's either going to take a paycut here and stay or go somewhere else and take a paycut.....no team will pay a declining WR what he's making now.

He has defiled #88....Drew and Irvin both retired as Cowboys.......get to steppin Dez, #88 is only for team players that bleed Cowboys blue.

No cut or release, either trade him or restructure, anything is is a complete failure by the FO.

He's scheduled to make $12.5MM this year. When you look around at recent WR contracts, there's a pretty good chance Bryant is going to get paid somewhere else, despite your protestations otherwise.

This notion that he's going to have to settle for like a $7MM contract doesn't seem to be based in any reality. If cut, he'll likely get himself a nice 3 year deal, with a decent signing bonus and a nice base salary.

Alshon Jeffery just signed a 4 year, $52MM contract that paid him $27MM in guaranteed money and carries an average base salary of nearly $12MM a year starting next year. Bryant would absolutely get something in that range.

So people need to stop with this idea that the Cowboys have him by the balls. They don't.

That what? He could go to the HOF? He easily could.

He's only 28 and already has the franchise record for TD receptions.

The guy can't do this type of stuff anymore?

I don't see tons of separation. Just a different QB.

One of those throws was from Dak, goof

Dez is top 3 all time goal line target.. between the 20’s, he’s average. Even w precious he was MIA.

Contrary to popular narrative, Dez did get separation once upon a time

Agreed, I think he will play out this year and have the oppurtunity to reassert himself.

And a pretty interesting one two. Who knows how Steven and Jerry really feel about keeping Dez for a 16 Million dollar Cap hit this year. If I was them I wouldn't want to do it. We just signed Hurns for half that money.

Oh my.. It's not a goof because someone other than Romo completed a pass to Dez. It's just obvious that Dak is not good at throwing to Dez because Dez has never gotten wide open.

Also, this coaching staff is to blame for the between the 20's stuff. Dez is an incredible YAC guy but he doesn't get put in YAC situations enough. The coaches need to simply get the ball in his hands.

The drops? A Fluke. An Outlier year. He hasn't forgot how to catch a ball.

I'm sure you weren't calling him a real QB after his first year. I love these "today" fans.

People are clearly projecting their personal feelings into what they think is going to happen here. Those that want him gone, for example, have built up this belief that he's screwed and has no choice but take whatever the Cowboys want to give him.
