Hey folks,

Been a minute. I was wondering who else is super excited about the potential of our LBs? If Lee stays healthy (I know, big if) Combining him with Jaylon and LVE this is going to be an excellent LB corp. Everyone who speaks on LVE says he has great range and instincts. They have also compared him to Brian Urlacher. If he is even 75% of what Urlacher was, this could be a real special unit.

For me, excited might be an overstatement at this point because you are banking on two unknowns in LVE and Smith.

Intrigued might be the word that best describes my feelings. Certainly, the skill level is there, especially if Smith is almost 100% as has been alleged. But until these guys actually play, my excitement is somewhat tempered.

Cautiously optimistic.

The group has the potential to be a huge strength but I think almost an even chance as being an epic failure.

I think the depth is comparable to last season which is the problem. Cancel out LVE and Hitchens(LVE might be better eventually but hard to be better than a solid 4 year Vet starting off) are we better than last season?

Jaylon is still a big question mark. I thought he improved as the year went on, he was better with less responsibilities but even if he is even more improved, the depth outside of the top 3 is as questionable as last season.

This unit at its best is one injury or underwhelming play from being very average to below average which is a problem given Lee’s history. I would love to have one more player I can rely on in being a starter. Right now, Lee is the only sure thing on the field.

I really like the potential of our starters, just a whole lot of if right now. I do worry about our depth, with the back ups.

Yes, I'm excited. We haven't had a physical specimen like LVE here for a while. When we drafted Lee I was saying he was too small and would get injured. LB's need to be big IMO. Not all small LB's get injured, but it doesn't help them. Also excited to see how much improvement we get from Smith. I know he's going to be better because he works his *** off.

Hard not to be. 3 things I want to happen.

1 - Lee stays healthy. Probly won’t happen for all year.

2 - Jaylon be improved like they are saying he is.

3 - Our new LB be as good as they say.

I'm pretty excited about the prospect of the entire defense. I think the overall defensive will be much improved just from an experience stand point, we threw several young players out there in the secondary and I felt they held their own and think they will be better because of it. LB Jaylon looks to be a lot healthier than he has been and of course Lee. As for LVE, I think he comes into a great situation playing along side Lee and while some mistakes are expected I think he will learn quickly.

I am excited. because this is the best LB group for potential that we have had for a very long time.
But I will also say I feel better about the entire D more so than the O. And it has been an extremely long time since we could say that.

Only because there are more question marks on the O right now.

Note on the LB's I said potential, as we need to see some things take shape. But it is there.

That's the key, the young guys like Brown and Awuzie. Careers in the NFL don't last that long, you need to be able to learn quickly, if they can, the defense will be at least above average, if not, we will probably see another good regular season with failure in the playoffs...

Yeah, was going to say haven't seen you around for a long time. And for many of us, the "likes" did not start until many of us had over 10K in posts, or more.

Well for a while I couldn't log in. I thought I was banned in the great purge a long time ago. But actually, my browser have emptied the cookies and I couldn't remember my password. So I ended up elsewhere. Then I tried to log in one day and I was able to. But it had been a while. So between that, starting another Cowboys related company and life in general, just wasn't in as much. And yeah, the like thing is new (to me). Good to see some familiar names here though.

Agree, but not with the epic failure part. Don't think they can be any worse than last year. But definitely can be better. Injuries go without saying. So if all healthy, will be better. Yes LVE needs to get up to speed over losing Hitchens. But also he is a 1st rounder to a 4th rounder. not that means a lot at times. But more often than not, it does mean something.

Wilber being gone is a huge plus and Thomas is 10x better IMO. Jaylon will be better, and Wilson is not all that bad as some think. He just needs to be more consistent. The 6th LB, Covington or March-Lillard or someone else will be like having any other 6th LB at least until they get more experience.

Lee of course is the key as to staying on the field. But the potential of being better over being worse is like 60 - 40 going into TC.

I know we get smoke blown up our rear ends when we sign someone BUT, I also think that the one guy that will be a surprise and a huge help to the LB corp is Jihad Ward. I have heard nothing but great things from him and from folks who are generally over critical. So that's encouraging.
