Do you know how it all started? Back in the 60's NFL films started doing a highlight film every year for each team and they named each one. Well in 70 or 71 when they did the Cowboys highlight reel they named it America's Team. Well a L.A. sportswriter hears this and wrote an article about it and Howard Cosell who at the time besides doing MNF had a 5 minute radio show twice a day in the morning and afternoon called Howard Cosell speaking of sports and after reading that article he mentioned it on his radio show. A couple weeks later the Cowboys were on MNF and Cosell agin brought it up and called the Cowboys America's Team a few times during the game and from then on the Cowboys were known as America's Team.
.
Something like that. I think from the NFL films guy that coined the phrase and it spread from there. I’ve never liked it.

Our fans who hopped on across the country appear to embrace it more than the locals.

Did I misname, misuse facts or titles? Well, you should know.
By the way, STAUTNER WAS TRUSTED AND IN THE INNER CIRCLE.

Again they were all very good at what they did but being a Cowboys fan since day 1, Jan. 28, 1960 this is the first time I've heard that Stautner, the defensive coordinator, actually his 1st 6 seasons in Dallas he was defensive line coach and was promoted to DC in 73 was in "the inner circle" and was in on the day to day running of the Cowboys.

I always thought it was unusual Ernie stayed on all those years as DC never taking on a HC position. You certainly don’t see a DC staying on same job for 23 years.

That NFL film guy was Steve Sabol but it didn't really catch on until that MNF game.

He finally did leave to be a HC but it was for the Dallas Texans of the arena football league. That was only for like a year and then he went back to being a DC for a couple teams, I think the broncos and another team and he finally tried HC again in NFL Europe.

That’s the first I’ve heard of that. Who was our DC while Ernie was just DL coach?

I though he was always DL/DC ?

Landry was DC from 1960-1972. Ernie took over in 73. I didn’t recall that.

I think but I might be wrong because Landry was a defensive coach he acted as DC too. He let DB coach Dick Nolan run in all of the rotation players but I think Landry called the defensive plays. After Stautner was hire as DL coach and as he learned Landry's defense and when Landry felt Stautner knew the defense as good as him and would make the same calls at the same time he would they promoted him to DC/DL. It's been a long time since I thought about this so my years may be off by 1 or 2 years.

Correct!

Apparently Landry was OC and DC from 1960 -1972. Then in 73 named Ernie DC and in 75 Jim Myers OC then Reeves from 77-80 taking OC back over until he hired Hackett in 86.

Amazing for 13 seasons he was both Coordinators. Wonder if anyone else has ever done that in modern era?

What top guys? Stautner answered to Landry, PERIOD. I don't know where you come from but if you think Landry would allow an assistant coach to dictate to him or stand for one going over his head you're sorrily mistaken.

I don't think so. So I was off by 1 year on that. Sorry.

You seem fidgitty. Chill, Dr. GJ.
Never said Stauther dictated to Landry. Never said day to day input by Stautner. You put in words that are your own, not mine.
Cut it out, lout.
Thy branching tongue is ... well, something not good!
Me mum is already asking about you at mean girl sites.
