This is a very good post, BP.

But you have to understand how this fan base has been conditioned.

The front office is bi-polar and they sell that message.

Success is so long ago, there is a whole generation that has no earthly clue what excellence really means.

They just get what they are told. Either from other fans or especially the organization that sells the product in its current state.

Actually the fans that got spoiled in the 90's are often the ones now that start the hating and negative comments about the Cowboys or front office. The sports society in this country has long ago turned into a instant gratification society and if things to go how they want instantly they start the hating and negativity and in their minds they think they're actually being good fans for doing it. Like doing it will somehow have an actual affect on the Cowboys and that the powers that be (Jerry and Stephen) actually sit and read these comments and then fret about them when in reality only other whiners keep those hate flames burning and there will be no actual change in the Cowboys because of it.

I was spoiled over several decades, not just the 1990s, thank you very much.

I apologize but I don't identify with the current generation that feels good about handing out participation ribbons instead of trophies.

As the new season approaches, I’m excited about the possibilities. BUT...Show us, don’t tell us.
This is my philosophy exactly!

I'm tired of the rah-rah talk every year. I'm tired of "something's different now" quotes from players every year. I'm tired of the "everyone's back and healthy now" excuses every year.

PROVE IT!

That should be the 2018 team motto for the Cowboys.

This team really doesn't talk so while I get what the OP is getting at, it really doesn't apply.

I don't think Garrett would put something like that on a t-shirt.

Seems to imply that they didn't do their best before.

It is much better to be vague and say something like FINISH!

FINISH! allows you to follow up underachieving with the illusion of actually achieving something.

You know, like the finale shut out of the eventual Super Bowl Champion Eagles.

If you’re going to take the stance of “show me, don’t tell me”, then why in the world would you even visit a message board in the off-season? LOL

Just wait for the games to start, and save everyone the trouble.
Right lol....like whats the point of this site? What do you want them to do in the offseason when a Super Bowl lol?

That is a very good question.

Since the franchise has yet to even sniff a NFCCG let alone a Super Bowl in the internet age, I don't think that question can be answered.

I see so you must have started in like the 70's when they won the SB in 71 and then 6 years later in 77 and then it was FIFTEEN more years before they won another one. In the late 70's though all of the 80's until 92 did you go all negative then or is it just now because it's been a little longer since they won a SB? So those several decades you got spoiled were really 2 the 70's and 90's and again a 15 year wait in between.

The late 1970s until the mid-eighties were just fine. In fact, it might have been something this generation would call "great success" given the obvious low standards.

What people like you don't seem to understand is that to build anything, you need deconstruction. I would rather hit the bottom and have somewhere to go rather than feel like treading water is a victory.

Being "sorta close" is like purgatory. I don't know about you, I would take heaven or hell over that.

90% of the current Cowboy players have only been around the past two seasons or so. They have had nothing to do with the Cowboys two decades of ineptitude.

They don’t deserve to carry the baggage of a past they had nothing to do with. And they can’t control who owns or coaches.

I root for the players...and when I look at recent history I see a team that’s gone 22-10...and 0-1 in the playoffs...a game they lost in the last play of the game. Not elite, but pretty darn good. And there is a lot to suggest the team is getting better.

You must have forgotten that the Cowboys playoff record in the 1980s was actually a pretty salty 5-4, including 3 divisional playoff wins and 3 straight NFC Championship games 1980-82. That’s 3 divisional playoff wins and 3 NFC championship games we haven’t seen around here in 23 years. As I’m sure you know we are 2-8 in the last 23 years in the playoffs.

So it was nothing like you described because it was a 10 year drought between NFC Championship games plus we had a HOF HC and a HOF GM running the show. It was much more hopeful than you speculate.

20 straight years with a winning record, good times, good times.

Hey, cut him some slack. He took the idea that a bye week was like a win and liked it.

The relative age of the players is irrelevant. Players operate in short windows now and smart franchises realize that.

Team leadership determines what a standard is.

Today's NFL is pretty much like a college football program. If the program is not solid, you get disjointed results.

If the figureheads of the franchise, the constants like the Jones family, make excuses after failure, some kid coming aboard is going to react accordingly.

We should be the Urban Cowboys...
And he says the same thing each time. Dagnabbit. Then he takes a swing of his scotch and then realizes he is still rich and that disappointment just evaporates.

{points to utterly meaningless Coach of the Year award on Garrett's mantle}
