What happens if our WRs cannot separate?

Does anyone remember in 2016, when Zeke was going strong, and Dez was out with injuries. But yet Dak was making throws. Beasley had a career year. Other WR's actually did make some catches too.

Well, Zeke is back, the OL should be even better than 2016, and certainly better than 2017.
Our WR's, though unproven with this team, a few did have some success elsewhere. And oh, the QB's throwing to them. Do you really think they are that much better than Dak?

I think they will be ok. Maybe not what we want them to be. But they won't be a disaster.

Receivers don't really separate anymore unless they are gifted with incredible size like Calvin/Julio or can change direction like Antonio. Today's NFL is all about the scheme. Even Antonio was being schemed to get open by running 3 WRs into his area and picking defenders off. Garrett and Linehan line guys up and say go out and beat your man. Huge difference and I agreed with Dez on this that we weren't doing enough from a coaching perspective to get our WRs open.

In an era where passing offenses regularly run gimmicks like WR screens, picks out of trip sets, etc, it shocks me how vanilla we are with our playcalling.

For example, get the box loaded and flick a tunnel screen out to Beasley. It seems to work well every time we try it, but we may dial up one screen pass a game.

Agree....however when was the last time they could separate in Daks defense. On another note if Blake B can make Hurns a 1k receiver and Dak can’t .... what does that mean?

You know what that will mean to these boards. Dak will be labeled a failed project and we will languish for another 5 years.

That is a narrative that a lot of people are pushing— but the facts/stats don’t support it.

He has had an amazing 24 game stretch, and a terrible 8 game stretch. No one saw him doing what he did in 2016– and no one dealt with as much adversity as he did as a QB last year (and he is only in his second year after all— but I digress)...

Show me another QB that lost his LT and dealt with more pressure over 8 games than Dak. You’ll also have to show me a QB that lost his offense’s primary weapon (Zeke) for 6 games. And you’ll have to find me a QB that had to keep his team focused throughout a national firestorm surrounding a very public and controversial investigation and suspension.

Got anyone? Thought so... I realize that some “fans” demand results/perfection regardless of curcumstamce or context— but in life, crap happens and last year this team dealt with a very crappy hand, and they came apart down the stretch.

Good leaders learn from mistakes and adversity— and believe it or not— this team may end up being stronger down the line, and Dak a better QB for having had to go through the fire last year.

I'll give you all your rebuttals and it's sure that Dak will be given this whole year to prove he can overcome his issues. At the end of this season we will all know. Zeke and the running game may give Dak the time he needs to excel as an NFL QB...we're fixin to see for sure.

That's correct. Dak has done it before and if we give him any sort of good working environment he should perform adequately or better.

Without having any receivers on the team (to this point) who are going to demand double coverage i think we are going to have a long season on offence. Opposing D will have that one extra guy on D to either spy on Dak load the box or drop back in coverage if we are in 2nd or 3rd and long. This season is going to depend on Zeke and our running game
Beasley got double covered a lot last year
That was one adjustment DCs made to our offense. Try to take Beasley away I the passing game and make Dak go down field more. They will continue to search for other things to do.

That's the NFL; a non stop cat and mouse game with the QBs and DCs. Dak is still learning, but has the mental capacity to learn throughout his career.

And what happens if our WRs can get separation?

No reason to worry about things just for the sake of getting a jump on it. Let's let things play out.

Dak no longer has safety blankets in Witten and back shoulders to Dez. If our smallish WRs cannot separate, how will Dak react? blue white scrimmage was not his best look. Hopefully not a preview of him forcing balls.
If this happens, then we start focusing on wr’s as our top priority in the next draft.

Exactly. The Pats don't care who they line up at wr because they know the scheme gives them an edge and they'll get enough consistent separation for Brady. The Eagles showed some creative passing schemes. In a league with salary caps you gotta have a scheme advantage and that is something that JG is not known for.

Redzone work Dak didn't have an issue at all and I'm fact the offense beat the defense like a drum. The 2 minute offense is where the offense struggled and the defense won no doubt. I suspect it's because Dak hasn't gotten completely on page with his receivers. Also having Beasley on the outside was a reason for one of the picks...... Not saying it was Daks fault or Beasley fault but they were working on things. Still plenty of practice to go and get these things ironed out so when the lights come on week 1 we are ready

Garrett is known...for his 8 year process...

Dallas' leading receiver (in both catches and yards) in that 2016 season was Cole Beasley. That is why he got double teamed a lot last year.
We'll just have to prove we can get the ball elsewhere if he again attracts that much attention.
Make them pay

Beasley has no reason to be playing outside. I know this staff is just seeing what if type things.
But on the other had it takes a way reps from others that need them on the outside.

Not that it really matters all that much the 1st week. Just hope it is not something they try to force, thinking they are out smarting everyone, when they aren't.

Brown baited Beasley and Dak on that play. Beasley doesn't have the size, speed or skill to play outside and will get man handled by elite and bigger corners

Sure there is. You play him outside at times to keep the D honest. Same reason we'd send Witten down the field at times. Makes it difficult to get the D aligned when you're throwing stuff like that at 'em.

Or those big corners will be flummoxed by his quickness.

You don't play Beas outside a lot, but you slip him there occasionally to throw a wrench in the D's plans.

Sounds good in theory. Maybe it will work on occasion but the DC's will soon figure it out.
When this staff tried things like this before, the rarely work. And when it does, it eventually cost us.

Like in the GB playoff game, they used that quick pass to the slot, and this time GB was waiting and intercepted it. They went on to get a TD after that I think. It was easily a 10 to 14 point swing. It was a huge game changer.

Sorry, I just can't trust this staff on stuff like this.
