This is an interesting listen...

Excerpt:

Do you know if Romo changed a lot of plays? Does Dak have the same green light to do that?

Broaddus:
"[Romo] always did, yeah. ... I think [Prescott] does have that ability. And that's another thing Sean Payton and I were talking about. Dak, early in his career, Sean was amazed - he'd go, 'I'd love to have a quarterback where he doesn't always change the play on me' ... but quarterbacks have that ability. They have the idea that if they see something, they can get out of it.

Most interesting point was on Chaz Green.

Garrett admitted they screwed up Green's development by moving him to LG.

Think how consequential that was. Besides screwing the season, it screwed our presumed franchise QB in a lasting way.

Yes. The kid has a internal clock of about 2 seconds now before he panics. Screwed up green and Dak in one game. I am not sure Dak will ever be the same.

I wonder how early in Romo's career he was changing plays. We tend to compare 12 years to Prescott's 2.5 a lot around here.
I am guessing he don’t change the play much. A fee times here and there. I notice he turns his back to the defense when he does it. I think Romo used to yell kill kill. Dak seemed to try it more last year.

Yeah, now that you mentioned it I noticed that.

I wonder how Dak changed plays compared to the way Staubach changed plays?

Changing plays at the line is why JG wanted Romo gone.. Dak was given a very limited playbook in 2016 and basically told to run the plays as called, with Romo and Sanchez calling out protection and wrinkles from sidelines.

Dak is trying to change plays at the line but can't read a defence.. there were two occasions last week where he changed the play negatively straight into the D's plans.

Romo actually had an uncanny knack for reading defenses, even relatively early in his career.

Unfortunately, Dak doesn't recognize defenses very well yet and opts to avoid killing playcalls.

Assuming Dak is permitted to continue his career much longer, he should improve that in time.

I tend to believe Parcells when it comes to Romos Football intelligence as he was quoted as saying Romo was one of the smartest Qb’s he’s ever coached.....so yeah Romo is superior in football acumen to Dakota.

Only a matter of time till Romo will be the Cowboys next head coach and find us a franchise quarterback

I'm not so sure....remember who was Romo's coach in his early years.
That’s the good thing about being on the internet.
We can just openly speculate and ask agenda driven rhetorical questions which says so much without having to say anything provable.

Changing plays is a chess game. The key to changing the play is to do it late enough that the defense doesn't have time to react. Same for changing or disguising the defensive call. Many, many fans complained about Romo running the clock down, but that was by design.

By the way, I read at the time that the 2015 play against Philly that Romo was injured on, he had changed the play and protection. The Philly D had a hot read that if Dallas was in a particular set, they would blitz. Changing the play led to Romo being hurt.

Exactly. That's what most of CowboysZone is - pure speculation based on one's preconceived beliefs.
