Jaylon Smith putting together a very good year

I don't give Jerry credit for getting lucky every once in awhile. Fools get lucky every once in awhile, after all. I'm glad it has worked out, and I've been rooting for the guy, but I rather make safe bets during the draft than wild gambles.

It was a good gamble if it turns out well.

But he tends to lose those gambles more often than not. Anyway, I'm not the type to hold a grudge because the cowboys did not draft who I wanted them to. Like I said, I've been rooting for the kid since he's been drafted. I also wouldn't have Drafted Zeek, but once he became a Cowboy I was all behind him.

That's the way it is supposed to be bro. Props.

Agreed. I wasn't impressed with Smith until recently. I did not like the pick. Now he's playing really good, not really good for a guy with nerve damage, but like a legit really good NFL LB.

Isn’t this a thread about Jaylon ? It’s amazingly lame how some people can’t give him credit without throwing LVE into the mix. We’ve already had the LVE threads. Time for you haters to eat crow, man up and admit Jaylon is a definite stud and a young leader on the defense. Make no mistake. Jaylon is the lead linebacker while Lee is out. LVE is good but not ready to lead and call coverages yet.

Going forward, I would really love to see them......
  • put LVE at MLB (especially next year when I assume he gets even stronger)
  • move Jaylon to his more natural WLB here he can just run around and create HAVOC
  • like others suggested, use Lee part-time (maybe SLB since he’s ALWAYS been good in coverage)
  • continue to add quality depth
I hope that Rod calls it a career at the end of the year and the let Richard run the show how HE wants to (scheme and personnel).

Rod is done. Look at how much better the defense has been, even without Lee, since Richard came on board.

clearly Jaylon's best game to date. outstanding. #54 and 55 converging on plays. they're recognizing plays, and they're reacting to the ball. two great picks. Jourdan lewis had really good game. gallup showing some great receiving skills. Beasley backed up his talk. not much to complain about this week. good overall effort by everyone. can't forget the much maligned conner Williams. he's getting better every week as well.

Why?

Stop it. It’s Jaylon calling the shots. Not LVE. SMH....
lmao. I feel you. it is Jaylon calling the shots. all you have to do is see his recognition of the plays and how quickly he moves to the ball. he's made me forget hitchens.

There nothing wrong with mention them together. Many of us are happy that both are doing well and that our linebacker core looks like it will be good for years to come.

That’s not why some are mentioning them together. You and I both know that.

These agendas are really sickening. Damn! Many people doubted Jaylon. Now that he’s proven them wrong they’ll credit LVE more to avoid admitting they were wrong. What the hell is wrong with people? LVE is good. But right now Jaylon is the lead dog. And rightfully so. He’s a multipurpose linebacker. He’s out there blitzing, sacking, stopping runners for losses, covering WRs and TEs, doing it all. And doing it all at a high level. These clowns just need to give the man the proper credit that he’s deserving of.

Serious question. How much better can Jaylon get? What was his ceiling before the injury? Is that within reach again?

I didn't really like the Smith pick at 2.

I felt like it'd be two seasons before he'd be even slightly able to play.

I guess I was right, and I now completely retract my dislike of the pick before. The guy is playing very solid football. If he progresses from here the Cowboys could have a LB Corps for the ages.
