At this point, there is only one way to attempt to salvage Dak's career.

Get him a new coaching staff. A new HC, OC and QB coach. It's just that simple.

But considering the Idiot in Charge Jerry "helped" Dak this past offseason by giving him zero quality WRs or TEs and installed Linehan's lost son as QB coach (a guy who had ZERO experience as a coach), I wouldn't expect them to finally understand what needs to be done to salvage Dak (if he's even salvageable).

I absolutely love Roger Staubach and hold him in extraordinarily high esteem.

I will never say anything bad about Roger and frankly his football opinion is to be valued at a higher level than probably every person on this board.
He knows what it takes to be a pro more than just about anyone.

That said--no one is infallible. No one is right all the time.
this is one of those times. Roger appears to be basing this opinion on hope, not reality.

Dak is not going through a "tough time".
Dak is flat out not the man for the job. It's more evident every day.

I think a return to a dominate oline would bring him back to serviceable (would help Zeke), but the amount of investment and time to get there would be prohibitive.

Fredbeard coming back helps a lot. Definitely need to look into upgrading both OT positions though.

It's the only reasonable approach we really have at this point.

I guess the other would be to just start *anyone* else over Dak next year, and try to tank for the #1 pick, but that's not exactly a morale booster.

And after getting Dak 4 new receivers, he had Dak throw a grand total of EIGHTEEN passes in pre-season, and not play at all in the last two games, making him rusty at best.

I really think that's a big part of Dak's problem this year....

They're tanking for the #1 pick right now! Oh wait...

Outwardly showing support for a Cowboy from a former great isn't an endorsement; it is merely encouragement. Roger isn't at practice everyday or watching the film these opposing coaches are dissecting.

I do not know if Dak is good enough to be a franchise QB but I do feel he's outgunned in the coaching area. The opposing coaches watching film and honing in on his weaknesses are better than the ones on his side that are supposed to help him overcome those.

But the doubts remain about his accuracy. If that is truly the problem, there is no solution, coaching cannot fix that. I am very critical of Linehan and have been since we got him but he sees him in practice and knows what he can and cannot do well. It seems to me that he's more comfortable putting the ball in the RB's hands on 1st downs instead of the QB's and what team with a good QB does that?

Garrett is on record stating that it's more about 1st downs than 3rd downs, both with Romo and Prescott, then why are they reluctant to let it fly on 1st down? At least one of these coaches on the O side has his job on the line but they refuse to turn Dak loose. And now with his developing ball protection issues, are they more likely to put less or more of the game in his hands?

Love Roger, but I have to discount his "support" for Dak due to a couple of lines in his tweet, to wit: “I still believe in Dak. I can’t go the other way."

Can't go the other way? Why not? Roger, we'd rather you were honest, Dak's a grown man, he should be able to take criticism..
