That tail end of Landry's era was rough.

The few years before the bottom fell out in 1985 were just a shroud.

The talent was simply not there.

I do believe this was the afternoon Steve Pelluer spelled an injured Danny White, hooking up a couple of huge 4Q conversions to Karl Powe.

Also, one of the best games Jim Jeffcoat played.

Yep. The drafts in the 1980's were horrible. Landry had no chance.

too tall to Jeffcoat!!!!!
talent was fading but yet our team was still well prepared.
even in '88 when we were 3-13 I still don't think we were unprepared or out coached....it was the players.

Just watching the first Cowboys series with all of the shifts and motion, after that pass to Hill, no way the D knows if the Cowboys are passing or running on the next play. Completely opposite of what we see today.

Damn, did you see how they mugged poor Hogeboom? Today that's 3 personal fouls and an ejection.

Fun fact: Hoogeboom is Dutch for "Tall Tree," (roughly). So back then we had Ed "Too Tall" Jones and Gary "Tall Tree" on the team. ;)

Speaking of Hogeboom, did anyone notice when he got injured? He was hit as he threw the ball. The defender came straight at him and made sure his helmet met Hogeboom's. One of the guys calling the game said "good use of the helmet".

Back when roughing the passer did not exist
I was watching an old game with Staubach, and some dude comes with a straight forearm to the facemask, about took his head off..no call.
If that happened to Tom Brady he'd be ejected and probably a week suspension
