We need Philly to win
Even though the Commanders have a backup QB, its not like they were winning games because of Alex Smith.
They were winning with their run game and defense.
We can end Phillys season next week if we take care of business.
The Commanders have the Giants at home which most likely is a W
In this scenario:
Dal: 8-5 (4-1)
Was: 7-6 (3-2)
Phi: 6-7 (3-2)
Nyg: 4-9 (0-5)
If Philly wins and beats us, they are in first:
Phi: 7-6 (4-1)
Dal: 7-6 (3-2)
Was: 7-6 (3-2)
Nyg: 4-9 (0-5)
We would be in 2nd only because we beat the Aints and Falcons
This is correct.
While logically you would think rooting for the team that lost their starting quarterback for the season would be best in the long run, you always want to to focus on what you can control. Since the Commanders and Cowboys split the two games they played against each other, its a more complicated path to winning the division should the Cowboys and Commanders end up tied after 16 games. Since the Cowboys beat the Eagles already and still have one game to play against them, they control their tie-breaker advantage right now against the Eagles.
Now, in future hindsight, should the Eagles beat the Commanders and then beat the Cowboys, it would have been better had the Commanders won their game against the Eagles.
However, if the Cowboys and Commanders win out, it would have been better for the Eagles to beat the Commanders which is why its better for the Eagles to win, despite how wrong that sounds.
The bottom line is that if the Eagles beat the Commanders, then the Cowboys beat the Eagles, the Cowboys would have a 2 game advantage on the Eagles (+1 game and the head-to-head tie-breaker) and a 1 game advantage over the Commanders with a better division record for the second tie-breaker.
The Giants will be eliminated from the division with one more Cowboys win, two more Commanders wins and/or 3 more Eagles wins and that's assuming the Giants win out.
