Clearly, Kris Richard is making a name for himself. If we as fans are noticing, I assure you NFL teams will do so too. The 'Boys must keep Richard on the team. They shouldn't let him walk after he's played such an important role in the performance of one of the best defenses in the NFL today.

If the 'Boys are to keep him though, leaving him at his current job will surely not be enough. We're talking about a guy who'll be getting a lot of phone calls once the season is over. Some of those calls will probably be for defensive coordinator openings and some might be about head coach openings.

Jerry hit the ball out of the park by acquiring Richard. Let's see if he'll announce the "big splash" by hiring Richard as the new HC at the end of the season. If so, this team will be going to the SB very soon.

Isn't it a forgone conclusion that Marinelli retires?
I kind of thought it was.

Hoping DC will be enough to keep him. Jerry won't fire Garrett unless we fall apart the next 4 weeks:(

  1. This is a thread that was posted earlier today and is LITERALLY still on the front page.
  2. Being a great defensive backs coach doesn't make you a great head coach. Firing a coach who may deliver an 11-5 season (though 10-6 or 9-7 is more likely) to keep and promote a defensive backs coach to HC is asinine.
  3. Very good chance Marinelli walks and his promoted to DC.
  4. Suggest you go look at Todd Bowles who was the hottest DC in the league and then made the head coach by the Jets.

Most fans wanted Payton and zimmer gone lol

I don't remember people wanting Peyton gone, but Zimmer for sure. He was considered a weak tampa-2 coach who couldn't generate qb pressure or design a blitz to save his life.

Can someone explain the Kris Richard infatuation to me?

Our D is playing well, but it’s not like we’re doing anything out of the ordinary in terms of scheme. We don’t blitz a ton because we get great pressure with our DL. Why is Richard getting all of the credit for that? Just because he’s the loud, emotional guy? It’s still Marinelli’s defense.

If there’s something I’m missing, I’m all ears. I don’t get it.

Only way Richard becomes Cowboys head now is a Garrett resignation ( move to FO ).
How about letting him get a few years under his belt as dc. I do like his fire. Bet he would let you know if you screwed up....and fast. Jimmy would cut your butt by morning if the screw up was game deciding.

Garrett isn't going anywhere I can guarantee you that.

They have definitely changed some of the coverage schemes. We were already running a lot of cover 3 and still are (a lot of people falsely say Marinelli ran a ton of cover 2/tampa 2 because of his history with Lovie Smith and the bucs, but that isn't really true). We now run a lot of combo coverage and change it up in the game a good amount, and do it pretty well. But you aren't wrong - it's just a progressed and natural version of what we've been trying to do for 3-4 years now, coming to fruition and maturity with talent peaking at all levels. Richard is definitely a contributor, but to assume he came in and singlehandedly did this is crazy. Frankly, the LBers and DL are every bit as dominant, if not more, than the secondary.

Regardless of what happens with JG in the future, I'm just hoping our FO finds a way to keep Kris Richards in town. If it takes making him our HC, then, I'd seriously consider doing just that. He'll likely have the opportunity to replace Marinelli as our DC if he retires and that's nothing to take lightly. If another team offers him a position as their HC, Jerry and Stephen might have to consider the idea of matching their offer. Anything can happen, perhaps depending somewhat upon how we fare in the weeks to come.

Well... for one... Marinelli seems to like him:

I read an article (can't find it) where Marinelli said he delegates some of the play calling to Richard and is particularly fond of his ability to call the blitz. Rather than using the blitz to just try to create confusion and a free runner, he said that Richard uses the blitz in situations to occupy a chip and create one on ones, which the DL is coached to beat.

He's Marinelli's replacement unless he takes a HC gig instead. And he's not displacing Jason Garrett as much as people want for him to.

You're right.....Jerry either offers the DC job to him or someone else wii.............he is the sole reason this defense is having the season we're having.
