This is us holding onto Bill Parcells and letting sean payton go all over again.

I rather roll with Richard then Garrett. Richard side of the ball is playing. Garrett is a offensive-minded coach and the offense is Garbage without Romo changing the play.

Given the choice of the promising assistant coach/coordinator, give me the offensive guy over the defensive guy. In today's league, you need an offensive mind running your team. If a team wants to hire Richard then so be it but don't act shocked if he has the same success as some of these other defensive head coaches who are on the hot seat after only a few years.

Richards story here is not yet over. Nothing is certain, including Garrett's future here. A wildcard loss or marinelli retirement might just open the door for Richards to stay.

If Richard is smart he'l bolt the first chance he gets and distance himself from the Jerry circus. Its bad enough he's had to answer to that incompetent he has as a HC this season.

Richard is getting credit for the defense now, and it should only be better next year. One more year here will improve his resume for a HC job in 2020. Allow him to be choosier about his options, and get a better situation.

There are no tier 1 head coaches who are willing to work for Jerry Jones.

Let it go.

I doubt it. He’ll likely be the Dallas DC next season.

Dude just got fired from a DC position last year.

Much ado about nothing, in all likelihood. Nice panic job though.
Why would he want to be the DC here? Being the Cowboys DC means taking the blame for losses when the offense only scores 10pts and the defense gives up a last minute TD.

Richard is Tier 1 head coaching candidate by advisory board. Garrett survives by making the playoffs. So the dream of Richard replacing him is likely dead. Richard will be head coaching another team in 2019 and we’re stuck with the Clapper for another year (or decade). Shoot me now.

That's just a load of faulty thinking. The coaching staff salary does not go against the cap so Jerry can pay them whatever he wants and he's been known to pay a coordinator, head coaching money. If Jerry wants to keep Kris Richard around, he will without giving up Garrett. Don't ever doubt Jerry's ability to do that. It's how we've been able to keep Will McClay around all these years without giving him the GM title.

Been saying if there are more than 4 head coach openings he has a real shot at getting one. As of today, looks like there could be a min 6 ( Browns, Packers, Buc, Broncos, Cardinals, Jets, Jags) plus an annual surprised opening. Not to mention, a rumor out there that McCarthy may take a year off before coaching again.

The annual coaching carousel soon will spin, and the league has been working to compile a list of recommended candidates for the looming array of vacancies.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the first tier of coaching candidates consists, in no particular order, of Cowboys defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator Kris Richard, Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt (a two-time former head coach), Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak (former coach of the Titans), Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels (former Broncos head coach), former Packers coach Mike McCarthy, Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores, and former Colts and Lions coach Jim Caldwell.

It happens. These coaches dream of being Head Coaches in the NFL. If he gets the chance good for him. Jerry is married to Garrett..

Yep, he's gone ... while Kris put this defense in championship form, we are stuck with the "offensive guru" and his crap offense for another 5 years ...

If I'm the Jags( who has a strong D), he'd be a perfect choice. Bring in DeFilippo as OC and sign Foles as free agent QB.

With Jerry's money, we don't lose Richard unless he wants to leave. Jerry has already shown he will pay a coordinator HC money.

Watch JJ let Richard walk this offseason and the defense regresses next year.

Richard isn't under contract next season but I think Jerry understands that he can't let this guy go anywhere. No salary cap for coaches so we should pay him what he's worth if he's willing to stay.

The question is why would Richard pass up a HC to be the DC DC with no clear path to the HC? If he's interested in being the DC HC. I do believe there are some coaches that would want no part of the DC HC job unless they needed the coin. It is not the usual HC job in the NFL.

To get the Garrett stamp
To be able to say he worked with Garrett
To be able to say he learned coaching from Garrett

Sort of like, when asked, who did you learn wisdom from? Aristotle replied: from the stupid people
