Romo had some teams good enough to go further.
Romo had some bad teams he made better.
Romo failed on a few opportunities, individually that cost the team wins.
Romo was great in the regular season, but the big games he couldn't pull through without help around him.
Romo's salary prevented the team to put more help around him.
Romo struggled to stay healthy which alternately cost him his start.

It's unfortunate, but it just never all came together for him.

And the wide majority of fan base dosent understand football on a technical level or watch tape on a consistent basis . So yeah.

I just want to clarify your statement: So you have that deep technical level and watch tape on a consistent level? So you focus on talents that analyst in the NFL have stated (ie. not stating what the fan base maintains) are wanting? Those technicalities?

Really I still think Romo should have went further in his era. I mean he didnt have bad teams around him all the time.
Yeah. 2007, imo.

We advanced one round in his last two playoff appearances, but that was it.
Four playoff losses, and three of them literally came down to a few inches here or there. And all with incredibly fluky events.

  1. Did drive team down the field in 2006 as a QB to get go-ahead points in Seattle.. no replay at end of Seattle to show what appeared to be (but who knows) a Witten 1st down at the 1. Then a starting QB (last one probably ever) playing special teams and muffing a snap. Not the QB, the special teamer. He says no excuse, but the ball was brand new and NFL changed rules after that. Kicking team gets to use broken in balls...not what home team forces them to use.
  2. lost to Super Bowl champs in 2007--like every other teem did...including 18-0 Pats. But did throw game-winning pass with 17 seconds left and WR broke route. Just that one play gives him a 93 rating, for example...and the win. Again, he makes no excuses...could've played better
  3. 2014 led entire NFL in playoff (and reg season) QB rating. But after team beat Detroit (and their 2nd ranked defense) with a 114 QB rating and game-winning TD pass...they lost at GB (with a 134 QB rating). Only pass to touch the ground in the 2nd half was the overturned Dez catch. (which now would be a catch) He did his part as QB. Not perfect, but really, really good. Again, he made no excuses.

The guy really only had one true interception in his entire playoff history. So that was never an issue in the playoffs.

SO close but not to be, by the total team, which included him.
Again, you won't hear him make excuses.

How about the '94 Cowboys?
I would have and would have lost due to the first few minutes of the championship game against SF. 21-0 before the game began. Otherwise? It was a sure bet. We clearly were the better team. And "betting everything you own" is metaphorically speaking, most people know that.

@the OP: In fairness to Romo, it's entirely realistic and objective to rank the Patriots, Saints, Rams, etc. as being more legit Super Bowl contenders than the Cowboys.

If this weren't a Cowboys fan website, I'd expect about 70% of people here to not consider the Cowboys to be SB contenders either.

What title?

"Tony Romo will call the Super Bowl for his first time on CBS . When asked what teams he expects to see in the big game, Romo did not mention his former club."

"Romo doesn't mention Cowboys are one of the major threats to win Super Bowl"
When you click on the link, the part you put in big bold letters, to make some kind of point, are the first words you see. The OP didn't make that up.

I know, I was just goofing around, while making the point that you can't necessarily trust what looks good on paper.

He is just trying not to appear partial in anyway?

That is my take.

And to discuss it points fingers at himself for not winning more.

It's all water under the bridge.

It doesn't bother me what he said or did not say.
Just having some fun, but some don't like it I guess.

It is in the past as you said, can't change it, only can look at what is going on now and the direction this young team is heading.

I have a friend that constantly puts down Dak and brings up the well if Romo..blah blah.
I like Romo, but even he had his limits as all players do. He kept us in many games, but cost us in games too. But kept us in many more than he cost us.

Not jabbing him. It is the truth.
Romo arguably the best QB to ever put on a cowboys uniform, when it comes to individual player/position performance. NOT team accomplishments. So yeah you are jabbing at a great player...for your individual infatuation for Dak.

Look dude, I stated on here many times I am not sold on DaK. And how I was going to wait until the off season, maybe even next season to see how he improves. And how in the heck do you get from this thread I am infatuated with Dak.
Don't get all worked up and state things I did not say because of your love for Tony, and dislike for Dak.
There I can do it too.

And I would argue that Romo is the best QB ever. How do you take any team accomplishments and compare players. That is absurd.
For stats, then yes, but stats don't tell everything, I am interested in winning SB's
So Roger and Troy are much better than Tony. So go ahead get all worked up over that statement now.

Guess you have no sense of humor either.

Over the last thirty Superbowls, the eventual NFL champion sat out the wildcard round of the playoffs 73% of the time. If I were forced to bet the house on the eventual champion - I would be picking from the field of teams receiving a first-round bye. Anybody having a problem with that may not be clear on concepts of probability and odds. Just saying... even though wildcard round teams make up a full half of the playoffs field - they have only won a quarter of the championship games.

...I tell you what. Jealousy and Envy go along way with humans. Even someone like Romo, could be wishing they don't get there. WHy??

Because, Dak will make him look like a chump. 25 yr old super bowl champion. Life is not fair and it could happen.

If we make the SB I would have to think calling that game would be a very conflicted experience for Tony . On one hand there are players he was probably close to that he would want to see get a championship but on the other hand having dedicated 13 yrs of your life to the mission and coming up a couple yrs removed would have to be bitter sweet at best .

Calling a SB is a great achievement and an honor but as competitive as Tony is the desire to be in that game instead of calling it from the booth would be overwhelming IMO.

I would think it tough to be objective when another guy is living your dream in front of the world on the biggest stage
Good post. At the very least, I would *hope* Romo's most ardent critics would extend him a small measure of respect for how he would call the game in the fair matter he has established in his young broadcasting career.

He always reminded me of Danny White.

Good enough to win..

just not good enough to win the big one.

That is not an indictment..

just material fact.

2007 season, Dallas entered the playoff brackets as the #1 seed in the NFC and lost to NY. If you enter post season as a #1 seed you are a contender

Honest question, do you think Tony with this 2018 team could win it this year (playing like he did in 2014), if your ansewr is YES, then he would be good enough to win it. If you say no, then, we disagree.

In 2014 if we had this defense?

Yes.

Do I think we can win it?

I hope so..

Still got 3 really tough games to go.

If our OL had all its pieces in place, we would the favorites.
