Well, first, it has to happen just as theorized.

And second, it is just as plausible that it's as Jones and Garrett have both said it publicly... they get together, and they make decisions together according to the consensus.

And third, again... Garrett's close to Linehan, obviously, but he's also close to Campbell, so it's not like Jones & Son are stripping away anything necessarily. It could even have been Garrett's idea, for that matter.

And fourth... again... I submit to you that it's plausible that the experience with Richard just persuaded them that they like that model, having a quasi-coordinator to add to the game planning and scheming mix... ie, as someone else suggested earlier this week, a role as "passing game coordinator," or for that matter, a "running game coordinator."
its worth watching if this comes to bear fruit or not. My understanding is Lombardi is even being talked to by Dallas about having input on scheme. That would certainly change the GARRETT dynamic.

Heres what I don't get...
Your coaching staff salaries have no effect on your salary cap.
So maybe I misspoke, maybe I do get it.
In Jerrys world, the world much different than all of ours, the world of a multi billionaire, this team,, the Dallas Cowboys,, its not your team, my team, its all Jerrys team,, he pays the bills.
Its like a billionaires greatest dream, like a hobby, like a collector of exotic artifacts, coins, etc that most/all fans could never understand.

Here is my take

It is not his hobby
This is what he lives for
He NEEDS the acceptance by football experts that he is a 'football guy' (which of course he is not). They of course laugh at him behind his back just like we do

That is why he sticks with Garrett because he 'chose ' Garrett and publicly told everyone that he was 'in training' so any success by Garrett is because of Jerry. Now, if Garrett fails, it's jerrys failure too and he does not want to accept that. This suits Garrett too because he's an incompetent jellyfish buffoon who is here only to count his money. If he brings in a great OC whippersnapper and he has success, well, that will mean we wasted a lot of years waffling with Linny and Garrett

Some think they might be talking about Norv Turner.

If so, that sounds like a true compromise decision.
  1. Someone Garrett knows and is comfortable with
  2. Not Linehan
It will now be interesting to see if he could get out of any contract he might be under? Or if he is?

keep in mind, Didn't Norv oversee Cam Newton and that offense in Carolina? How did that go? If I recall..not too great. How much of that was Cam,and how much of that was Norv?

It's my perception that Kellen Moore did not have input on scheme.

I'm less certain about whether Wade Wilson ever did. I tend to think he did, though, just because he was as experienced as he was both as a coach and a player.

Except that Norv has been available this whole time, so it doesn't corroborate with Jerry's suggestion that someone could shake loose in the next couple of weeks.

And except that there are people... or at least one person... who fit that description who also are former colleagues of Garrett's and who he has said he regards highly.

Norv isn't available as he remains under contract.

That is fully consistent with what was reported.

Kellen, sure.

But you know that about Wilson?

Wilson and Red go back a long time. It would not surprise me at all if he had input.
I know enough...which is why Wade mutually departed the team a couple years back. He wanted more say, they essentially said,no.

Lombardi and Campbell...and if they can't land Lombardi, my sense is the whole deal is off.

If he's under contract, then he's under contract and won't be available.

But otherwise, Carolina's year of course was over weeks ago. Almost surely, they like everyone else has decided who they want to cut loose, and who they intend to retain.

Dan Campbell obviously would be our new OC in conjunction with input from Lombardi. Sounds like Garrett is getting more powers stripped away from him each year. Very telling.

Interesting if true.
