So what you’re saying is he might not be quick twitch enough lol

Man we need at least one big boy in the middle to rotate in there, I prefer two more please...
Lol that's exactly what I'm saying. In general, I get the idea to add a run stuffer, but it's just not how this defense works.

Shelton is yet another in a long line of over-hyped run plugging DTs some of our fans have been clamoring for that didn’t pan out.

(In no specific order)
Danny Shelton
Gabe Watson
Alameda Ta’amu
Andrew Billings
Phil Taylor
Terrance Cody

It remains to be seen how Vita Vea turns out.

The point being these guys are sort of a defense’s version of fullback position. I wouldn’t spend a high on 2-down player that doesn’t provide pressure.

Antwaun Woods is bigger than the guys Seattle was using in the middle when Richard was there. The year Seattle won the Super Bowl (2013) 6'1", 311 was the biggest. Neither of the starters in the middle when Richard's turn as D-Coordinator in Seattle ended (2017) were oversized guys either. 6'3" 306 was the biggest.

Richard called the defensive plays. That didn't automatically promote him to DC. Although I wish it had. :D

Kris is already DC. He ran the defense all season long and this is coming from Kris and Rod. Giving him the title wont affect what the defense looks like next season

So then, are you saying Richards is responsible for the best dorm the Rams offense out on us?

I think he may well be right though, at least based on the knowledge we have. Richard certainly took a more active role than someone who isn't the D-Coordinator normally would, but we don't know that he took the lead beyond calling plays. The defensive game plans and what they work on week to week may well have still been directed by Marinelli.

Between knowing what the guys up front were going to do and the slanting the DL does that has more to do with the mollywoping than size. Whne you know the guy in front of you is going to slant left no point in fighting him let him take himself of the play with some help. remember in the NFL RB do not go for a specific hole but where a hole opens up. This is not the 70's where you run to a gap as RB, no more 21 dives...
I'm well aware there was a coaching issue vs the Rams, stated that enough.

The Cowboys looked like they ran 21 dive numerous times on 3rd/4th and short.

I like bigger DTs or at least match Woods with another. I like Reid but he's UFA and they need more IMO.

Just make Richard the DC, and rob a consultant / DE coach.
Keep Rod's opinions on players for DT's anyway, out of the draft. Let Richard have that main say.

As for bringing in FA DT's, not going to get into that as we will not be big players in the FA market. So I will see what others have to say about that. I won't use my time to look into it. not at this point anyway.
But I will appreciate reading others opinions.

Well it's not the amount of money spent but how you spend it. We did pretty well last year with Fleming, Woods, etc.

I'd mostly be curious to know how many snaps he got in the nickel, because that'd be telling as to what he can do as a 1-gap player.

I don't think the Cowboys are averse to size, they're averse to slow. If Shelton can be explosive, then he'll fit. It seems foolish to try to change the type of player you want based on one game.

Exactly

It's hard to compare to that DL because their starting LDE was 6-4, 323.

That's true as to the Super Bowl season and before, but in the next 4 years Richard was with Seattle they didn't have that.

SEA defenses always had a big boi upfront, so there's a possibility Richard prefers that, plus don't see how they got mollywapped in LA and don't recognize they need more beef in the middle. Yes, Woods played great but you don't stop adding proper talent especially when you have franchise LBs who need bodyguards.

Shelton could be a target cause his price tag should be in DAL range, but there's a lot of FA DT options this FA... Cowboys just need to play ball with that cap space, a little bit.
Seattle had Brandon mebane who is listed at 6 1 311, they let him walk for a very reasonable 3 yr 13.5m contract with San Diego and replaced him with Jarran Reed 6 2 307 at the combine. They have the same 1tech philosophy both size and pay resources Marinelli or Dallas has! If any difference they seem to prefer tall 3t but don't put much emphasis on paying either position!

There are a lot of FA DT’s but only a few worth looking into. Brown, Sheldon and maybe Jarrett if he doesn’t re-up with the Fal-cones.
