If you had to make tough call and only keep 3 of 4, who walk, Coop, Dak, Zeke, DLaw?

I know everyone says Zeke but has everyone forgotten when zeke was out those games? Zeke is a special back not just a dime a dozen back not so easily replaced. Remember those days after emmitt. I coundnt choose any of them right now because I feel they all add something to this team. Do I want to overpay any of them No but this is football and somebody if not all is going to get paid.

No question it would be Zeke. I love him and don’t want to lose him but RBs are easier to get as free agents and in the draft. We could likely draft a RB this year in the 4th or 5th round and if you took one that was also a good pass receiver out of the backfield, he would likely give you 80-85% of Zeke’s production if you gave him the same amount of touches. That just looks like the least painful loss to me.
One way to look at it is who will be great the longest?
A RB with the carries Zeke gets isn’t last much over maybe 4 more years at an elite level
I think Zeke is certainly an elite RB but the wear is gonna come early
Not only that teams who lead the league in rushing don’t generally have top RB’s
GB avg 5.01 per carry

Zeke...This is why you you don’t take s RB at #4. A guy taken that high you expect to at
least get a 2nd contract.
You could argue drafting one high means you don’t have to give second contract because of 5th year option

Dak- it’s not even worth talking about, bc we all know he’s getting a new contract regardless if folks like him or not..he’s 25yo

Cooper- there’s absolutely no way Dallas gives up a 1st rd pick and let’s him walk after two years. Good thing is..Amari is that good and deserves a new contract. He’s 24yo

Zeke- I’m on the fence here. I typically subscribe to letting RBs walk when there due big money bc the truth is, RBs seem to be easier to find no matter what round. The trick is to find the RB that can play in your scheme. Hence the reason I was fine when we didn’t pay big for Murray a few years back. But Murray is no Zeke. Zeke is a special back and seems to be in a class of his own. Hardly ever injured and has dominated RBs since he’s been in the league, that includes missing time for a suspension. I’d rather sign Zeke with a caveat, like a 3-4 year front loaded contract that won’t hurt the team if his play falls off and the team needs to cut him. He’s only 23yo!

DLaw- ugh, well as much as I love watching him play.. he’d be the guy I wouldn’t sign. For a number of reasons. Yes, he is vital to are defense, but no one is mistaken him for DeMarcus Ware. His best year was 14.5 sacks and last year he barely made double digits. Last season, just like the season prior.. his production fell off in the second half of the year (only 2sacks in the last eight games). And where was he in the Rams playoff game? Yes I know, he was playing hurt most of the year.. but that’s just it.. he’s always playing hurt. It was his Labrum this year.. back and ankle last year, back the year before that. I’m just concerned, once he gets that big Contract, his production will quickly fall off, whether be due to injuries, age, or just not having to “prove” himself any longer. I’d let him walk, take that 3rd Comp pick next year. And he’ll be 27yo in 2 months.

I'd very, very reluctantly let Lawrence go of the 4. Only because of his injury history.

Zeke is probably the easiest to replace, but he is the identity of this club. You cant let that piece go before production is proven to be declining.

It is Zeke.

But by not keep I mean you give him his 5th year option which means we have him for 2 more seasons. Then you franchise him once or twice. We have Zeke 3-4 more years when "not keeping" him.
HE WILL NOT play even until his 5th year not even close hes already clamoring so even with the 5th year option and FT he will LBell us, this is 70% of our offense and he knows it and no a guy like Zeke is top 10 draft pick regardless, those finding RBs later rounds have been lucky , its not that easy to replace that kind of production and Health..hes played in every game available..

He will hold out after 2020 if not start that process of not showing for all otas and practices and start pushing for it now, you dont want that distraction, hopefully he plays 2019 out without becoming restless and then we decide.. for sure we need a 3-5th round RB to compliment Zeke anyway and that should be priority this year after seeing what Bell did..

Make them each a player/coach so only half of their salaries count against the cap ;)

Tough one, Hawkeye.

Dak’s our QB going forward and it would definitely impede his progress to lose either Coop or Zeke. But then D-Law’s the anchor of our D-line, so dumping him wouldn’t be a good move.

Wouldn’t wanna be in the FO for this scenario, but would have to bite the bullet on Lawrence.

Dak, Coop and DLaw. As good as Zeke is, a RB is by far the easiest to replace, and usually have short careers.

I am afraid D Law will get too big of a contract and then miss part of the season hurt. And I also believe JJ will give too much money to Dak

If Zeke signed a 5 year contract today..

.. he’d only be 28yo in the last year of the deal.

One factor often overlooked -- most great running backs contribute immediately, often at a Pro Bowl level. players at other positions often require reasonably significant development time. While it's true players at other positions often play better longer, RBs often play better sooner. So that's part of the equation. A player like Elliott is probably worth a second contract, as long as the team protects itself in the out years.

I'd have to say D Law. I don't think he's an elite defensive end. But if he were I'd keep him. It's a far more valuable position than running back. But I can see why Jerry wants to keep him because he doesn't want our defensive line to get even worse than it is. And if we're to add any more D-lineman, it'll probably be at best a 2nd or 3rd round Tackle.
