Gurley missed the last two games of the season w/ a knee injury. He's been gimpy all postseason.
exactly, that is why the Rams should have started OJ, and just use Gurley to spell him if needed.
Gurley has the name draft status, stats etc, but all that means nothing if they are not 100% especially with a knee injury.

The Rams stated before the game they were going with gurley and he would get most of the snaps, right then I knew they would
probably lose. It was just stupid with the way OJ had been playing.

Is there any more proof needed that coaching matters?

New England doesnt have the talent that we do on defense and they completely shut down the Rams high-octane offense.

#GROG

So who are you going to bring in that can pull off what Belichick's defense does?

Belichick and his players are able to run multiple fronts and change on the fly ie they go to 3, 4 and 5 man fronts and interchanges 2 gap and 1 gap technique in the same call amongst his front 7.

We tried bringing in a pretender like Rob Ryan but Ole Bill is a once in a generation talent. Even with all of their defensive success if the Rams had better QB play, they had a shot to win.

Their offensive gameplan was pretty vanilla. They ran a stream of option routes to Edelman, ran everyone else upfield, and let Brady use his accuracy and eyes to make plays. They managed 1 TD and 2 FG.

Gurley didn’t look good at all. The chubby back up looked better than him.
Again, is 10 carries scattered over the game enough to know? Would you be okay with the Cowboys losing with Zeke only getting 10 carries scattered over an entire game?

C.J. Anderson only averaged 3.1 yards per carry to Gurley’s 3.5, so he really didn’t look better. Even if he had though, why not run him? Either of them? Both? They were the 3rd best running team in the NFL with arguably the best RB in the NFL, yet 70% of the offensive plays called were passes. They never gave the running game a chance.

He was not listed on the injury report at all - not even as probable. He practiced in full in the 2 weeks leading up to the Super Bowl. After the Super Bowl he said he was fine and not injured, McVay said that he had done a bad job of getting Gurley involved, and Goff said he would like Gurley to have been more involved but that wasn’t his choice. Not to mention there was no indication he was limping when he did play, and he wasn’t getting attention from the medical staff on the sideline. He sure didn’t look injured when they beat the Cowboys a few weeks earlier. Both he and Anderson looked great against Dallas, yet neither got a real chance in the Super Bowl.

Is that the best you can do?

Belichick is still the only coach in this generation that can provide what you want and he is not going to be available. Nick Foles simply underscores my point about better QB play trumping "coaching" given what he did last season.

Gurley’s average was inflated because of one carry. He just didn’t look good in the Superbowl to me. I probably would have run Anderson a little more. Vs NE you have to take what they give you. If Belicheat is intent on stopping the run you need to throw the ball. The Rams are capable of throwing the ball, but they never adjusted to NE’s pressure. They needed to throw to the backs quickly and put Cooks in the slot and use his quickness( like Edelman did for NE ) to get open. The Rams played into Belicheats hands by running mostly slower developing patterns.

Coaching Matters a lot. Belicheat had a good game plan and McVay’s Offense never adjusted. Reminded me of our offense under Linehan and Garrett. We never adjust during the game when something is not working.

Never hear of the Patriots in any salary cap crisis or them trying to resign players. They will usually get rid of a player or just let them walk.

There have been plenty of time Zeke didn’t immediately look good, but because he is your best offensive weapon youvstill e sea or to get him in the flow and get him rolling. Same with Emmitt and all top RBs. You don’t just give them a token carry here and there and call it good.

This is just fanboi nonsense.

Im not taking anything away from Belichicks greatness, but there were/are several times his defense got absolutely torched in the playoffs.

Anyways, you obviously missed the point. When the opposing team states they knew which stunts we were going to use because of alignment, thats absolutely a coaching issue.

They do not over pay! That trust their talent evaluators and their coaches to get the most of their draft picks.

You are terrible at making legitimate arguments. Ad hominem, strawman, appeal to derision. It detracts from compelling anyone.

I never claimed that you were taking away from Ole Bill's reputation. My point was that coaches of that talent are ultra rare. No one else does in the league what he does.

I'm thinking towards solutions while you are fixating on problems. Getting "Belichick" is not a viable plan.

Agreed Belicheat is a great coach and coaching Matters a lot. Also, agree the Rams still could have won that game if their QB play was better and their D made one more stop.

It will be difficult to find a coach at Belicheat’s level, but we need to try to find one as close to his level as possible. A coach like Garrett that straight out says, “we do what we do”, cannot compete with a Belicheat type coach. One who game plans specifically for each team he plays and has alternate game plans if the 1st or 2nd game plan is not successful.

Our guys get paid millions of dollars. All they do is practice football. They should be able to play in multiple defensive schemes or offensive schemes in the same game. We keep running out the same scheme and plays. A coach like Belicheat can make it very difficult if you don’t have All Pros at every position when you coach like this. In today’s NFL, with the talent so equal, you have to, like NE, take what the defense or offense gives you and be smart enough to figure out what that is!!

I would go so far as to say, Coaching Matters the most in the NFL given that the talent level is so equal among all the teams, especially the playoff teams.

This thread should never leave the front page it is so important!! We had plenty of talent to make it to the Super Bowl, but we got out coached on both sides of the ball by the Rams.

Talent level isn’t near equal among teams. Personnel acquisition is, by far, the most important factor in building a contender.

You are terrible at comprehending what youre reading. Do you really read our do you just skim through it.

Theres hours and hours worth of evidence out there that shows, “coaching matters”. Belichick and the Pats performance was just another example of that.

Youre trolling right? I didnt know that you were that dense.

And now you are insulting my intelligence. Still not compelling. Petulant? Sure.

Actually there is not hours and hours of anything. You are waving your hands at what the best coach of a generation can do. That is it.

You called for GROG remember? Belichick is not and will not be available. The coach we do have won the division and a playoff game. You offer no solution that improves upon our situation.

Look at the total DT talent in the Super Bowl. Shelton Richardson, Aaron Donald, Suh. The interior of the DL is clearly a priority for both the Rams and the Pats.
Garrett has never bought into the idea that the middle of a defense is important whether it's DT or safety.

Agreed. Garrett and Marinelli both.

Garrett coaches the defense and selects the defensive players? What are Marinelli, Richard, and the Jones boys doing?

I'm fine with replacing JG but I've seen nothing to indicate those decisions were made by him. Now if you want to talk about JG's offensive philosophy and game management...

True, we don't know if Garrett actually selected these defensive players, but if he didn't, then it's safe to say neither did he override Marinelli's decision.
Between Garrett and Marinelli, Garrett has the last word if he wants it. If he doesn't exercise that power when needed, then it's shame on Garrett.

Yes and hes done nothing above that in 10 years as head coach.

Its time to move on. #GROG
