Can we see this stat from the past 10 years and see how many teams win the SB....a metric is only worth taking note of if its results actually prove anything

Easy

that is what the cap space is there for

not to hoard it

DLaw 5/90m
Dak 6/120m.... goes in effect 2020
Zeke not until 2021
Cooper 5/80m
BJones not until 2020
Gregory not until 2020....maybe re-sign
LCollins.....see ya
MCollins........4/20m in 2020

EThomas 3/27m with incentives
DT.....vet and/or Draft2
WR...... Beasley or TAustin for cheap

+1 .......btw I thought there was something in the last CBA that said if teams cap space reached a certain amount they HAD to use a certain percentage. I may have it wrong but I'm thinking when cheap teams would have boatloads of cap space and refused to spend it.

There is a Cash Floor but that is different from a Salary Bottom

Over a 4 year period from 2017-2020 teams have to spend 90% of the Salary Cap on players in CASH

But with prorations of Signing Bonuses and Dead Money this can leave a ton of real Cap Space

DAL is actually close to floor and was close in the period from 2013-2016

The Jones' spend all their revenue on Stadiums, Stars and yachts, not on Free Agents that can help the team win

It’s been 23 years, not even a divisional round win in the playoffs. Pathetic!

For many fans, me included, it’s about winning Superbowls.
So did you quit being a fan because they haven't been to the SB?

There's about 15 years of abject failure followed by a few years of minimal improvements. That's a lot to get over & I can appreciate that it's more than most can forgive. I'm willing to hope that JJ finally learned a little bit about how to actually put a winning team together. I'm also quite willing to accept that I could be totally wrong about that.

We have won the Division 3 out of the last 5 years and some fans can't get happy

They are miserable and need to be left behind to cry in the darkness

Our time is now..... we are young, talented and improving

It is anything but Smoke and Mirrors..... they have over 120m next year with over 28 players under contract and that doesn't include the 10 Draft picks over the next 2 years
Yes and 6 players will suck it all away. Same team just MUCH more expensive.

+1 ....but not just FA but at least 2-3 QUALITY/ mid-level FAs instead relying on bottom feeders.

Is mid-level measured by cost or skill level? I would say cost because skill can vary from system to system. In other words stats can't be superimposed from one team to the next. On the other hand cost is often a reflection of skill level. I thought we did a nice job last offseason in addressing depth on the O-line. Unfortunately Marcus Martin and Eihringer both went down with injuries before the season started. Added some depth on the interior of the D-line too. Yes, we need depth which can be a mid level or lower FA. We missed at S and I didn't expect our FO to sign ET, I still don't. There are other options besides an aging 31 year old who has had two broken legs in the past 3 years IMO

Good.... that means we drafted great

Add 10 new Draft picks in the next 2 years that don't need any Cap Space

Teams don't win games because they have a lot of Cap Space..... it is not an accounting competition

Teams should have 5m in Cap Space every year to handle the IR..... any more is putting profits over production

Kind of makes the annual offseason moaning seem pathetic, right?

LOL.

When was the last time we played in a champ game?

Oh right.

But hey, maybe we can get a trophy for winning 10 games and having over $50MM in cap space?

Or we work on continuing to improve so that next year you can moan about not getting to a Super Bowl as if you weren’t whining about never being able to get over .500 just a few short offseasons ago.

Didn't your Eagles win the SB last year?

First, I love how you just continue to make crap up. I've always been clear on what I want out of Garrett - a SB. That's the standard. Shoot, I even stepped back and said this offseason, I'd even take a NFC Champ game appearance at this point.

What's also funny is you talk about improving and then criticize the moaners when the moaners have been spot on for years on how this team botches the offseason, specifically FA.

This is why people complain in the offseason:

2014

Melton - ehhh
Mincey - pretty good
McClain - pretty good
Weeden - bad
Spillman - bad
Watson - bad
Anderson - bad
Crawford - ehhh

2015

McFadden - pretty good
Collins - ehhh
Hardy - LOL
Rivers - bad
Brinkley - bad
Gachkar - ehhh

2016

Morris - pretty good
Thornton - bad
Mayowa - ehhh

2017

Moore - bad
Paea - bad
Carroll - bad

2018

Olawale - ehhh
Hurns - ehhhh
Thomas - ehhhh
Ealy - bad
Thompson - bad
Fleming - ehhh
Martin - bad

That's an embarrassing haul of FAs from a team that since 2014. I expect this offseason to follow that pattern. This franchise, despite making the playoffs (and also not having a full complement of draft picks), will sit out the first 1-2 weeks of free agency, then hit the bottom of the barrel bargain bin like they have for much of the last half decade or so.

I am hoping to be shocked.

To be clear, I’m speaking about the generic moaner here, and I most definitely did not make that argument up. I responded to it dozens of threads on the never-get-over-.500 topic.

And, no, you guys aren’t just *****ing about free agent acquisitions. That’s an area where criticism is actually warranted. Note I said ‘criticim’ and not ‘whining.’

You said I said that. I never moved the goalposts. I have always been clear about what my expectations for the Cowboys head coach.

There are a lot of areas to complain about. FA, coaching, etc. About the only thing that has gone right has been the recent run of drafts. That's about it.

Looking at that list is even worse than I thought it was. We have picked too many FA's that were really bad, especially the used Eagles players. A lot of them weren't much more than camp bodies.

Admittedly, I was behind the Thornton signing. But he turned out to be a turd.

Stats are all well and good, but it's what you do on the field of play that really count.

A couple of years ago there was list of the teams that since 2000 have drafted the most pro-bowlers.

We were join top with the Pats.

How do we compare on the field of play with the Pats???

Both he and Nolan Carroll were just the worst. You could not have done worse if you tried. Millions and millions invested in both for virtually nothing in return. You would be hard-pressed to find two worse examples in free agency.
