We had a lot of issues in red zone last year. No Witten, no Dez, poor protection, poor short yardage blocking in the run game, only one TE who can really block and he goes to IR, and a QB who can't really throw a decent fade. They need to be aggressive about fixing it in the offseason if we're going to score more points.

On defense, we need turnovers. If we can't get them with the young players getting better, we need to add an expensive FA safety.

While I agree with everything you said, the play calling in the red zone was horrible this season. If we have the same players and different play calling we should be better than last year.

This should by far be #1. Because until we take care of the trenches on both sides of the ball, nothing we do will matter all that much.
Well that would be mine. I’m not sure how much they can do,with not a lot of draft capital, and Lawrence to sign though. Not gonna be easy. Heck.I’m nor even sure they will change their tune on DTs. Jerry’s still in love with the DEs,and we all know Rod’s MO.

Jobber I think I would agree with everything on your short list, but getting everything on that list done right would virtually seal a Championship brother.
Im dialing in small, and just looking at possibly getting a good pick in the 2nd round... OL or DL.

Perfectly simple and accurate. I see it the same way.

We've got the horses to correct the oline mistake by moving Collins back to guard.

But on the defensive front, we run into some problems. Both with a coach, his philosophy and the personnel. Not a single run clogging one tech on the whole roster.
Yes,that’s the problem with Dallas’s d-line. As I just mentioned,it’s not something I’m sure they’ll change. It’s never been Rod’s priority, nor the FO. I know they’ll address o-line...that much we know. But the question is DT? Actually now I think about it,they will need a DE too dang it. Gregory is a weakness in the run, which LA exploited, and teams will use that same plan against them a lot now if they can. Can’t rely on Taco Bell for good service, his heart isn’t in it.

Why do all that if its impossible to win a SB with Dak trade him before next season tank the season and draft Trevor Lawrence 1st over all . Why waste Zeke Tank and all the picks get picks by trading Dak and just give up the season if its impossible to win a SB anyway
You dont stop trying to win! Tanking is usually dont when your team has a bad losing season. Besides they need to sign Lawrence to be able to trade him since he is a FA. Zeke will have a 5th year option so you could trade him . You need to let this season play out so that Garrett can be fired and pray Jerry can convince Sean Payton to be the new head coach. Payton would have a fresh young QB in Lawrence on a rookie contract for 5 years. The Cowboys with the extra money they save on having that rookie QB contract they could bring some tier one FAs.

1. Get Moore creative on offense

ACTION ITEM: Kellen Moore

The Cowboys offense has gradually gotten worse over the last two seasons. Last year, they ranked 22nd in the league, averaging 21 points per game. With an improved defense, this team has it in them to be a force, but the offense has to be clicking for that to happen. Dallas flashed great offense at times; six times they scored 27 or more points and four of those instances came during the final six regular-season games. But then they would also throw out a goose egg late in the season against Indianapolis. The offense just wasn’t playing to their potential.

2. Improve in the Red Zone

ACTION ITEM: Doug Nussmeier

The Cowboys had all kinds of problems scoring touchdowns in the red zone last season. After 14 games, they were ranked 31st in the league, converting only 44% of their red zone opportunities into touchdowns. They did improve over their last four games that included their two playoff contests, but the ineptness in the red zone plagued them most of the season. Some of this is attributed to the fact that they have no push in the interior offensive line with Travis Frederick out and rookie Connor Williams starting at left guard.

3. Get Dak to throw downfield
ACTION ITEM: Jon Kitna

Dak Prescott will be the first to tell you that he just wasn’t comfortable at times last season. In fact, he expressed those exact sentiments last week when he was on 105.3 The Fan.

“Guys were doing well. Honestly, I wasn’t comfortable. It wasn’t the same guys at the same positions, as much as it was anything. You look out there and it was a different X than it was a play ago, there was a different Z than there was a play ago. I think what that did is create a little bit of uncertainty for me.”

That’s understandable. Cole Beasley was his most targeted wide receiver last season, but the next five highest targets weren’t even on the team in 2017. One of them didn’t even join the squad until the eighth game of the season last year. Once Amari Cooper arrived, things improved significantly for Prescott.

If the 2018 could have been really good in the redzone. the Cowboys would have been incredibly hard to beat.

I will give it to you brother you have a plan . I can understand your concerns over Dak and the belief that he will not be able to take us to the SB .

After Tony I just have trouble pinning my hopes on one player as the savior . I believe Dak with all his faults has enough positives to lead a team of talented players farther than Tony could with less talent .
Both being saddled with Garrett makes it almost impossible to acquire enough talent to overcome him so I have adjusted my expectations.

Wish I had your faith that Jerry would finally give up on Garrett and move on but I don't see it . To me it just seems like Jerry is adding to his corps of unlikely candidates to get us to the SB with the addition of Moore as OC .

It just seems this is Jerrys life mission take all the unlikely longshots at the most important positions on the team ,claim there are your hand picked guys and relentlessly try to win with them no matter how inept they prove themselves in crucial moments .

IMO Jerry wants and needs the credit and will not have it any other way . Winning is secondary to him getting the credit .

Got to have dominate inside players. That has to be the a major priority for this team to handle what we saw from clubs in postseason. We stunk all year with pass blocking up the middle, and Indy and LA showed us how ineffective our d-line is against a good strong front.

I don't even think much about JG any more. I'm more of the mind of hoping we can get good enough coordinators to overcome.

Prescott trying to sell out his coaches for his own lack of talent.

The fact that he would say this to the media shows everything you need to know about the kind of guy he really is.
Ridiculous....he merely states that the lineup was changing regularly, even in game, and he was more comfortable once the starting WRs were set and in place. Duh....that’s nothing but normal. It’s a comment on a state of affairs prior to the Cooper trade when our receiving corps was garbage and the coaches were trying to find a group that actually worked and giving guys a chance to step up. Once we had a decent #1 and Gallup became entrenched at #2, of course the QB was more comfortable, knowing what he’d get from each play.

Reminds me of Tim Tebow. I dont understand what people watch during a Cowboys game.

Your memories of Tim Tebow are fantasies.

Completion %:
Tebow 47.9
Dak 66.1

Yards per attempt:
Tebow 6.5
Dak 7.5

QB rating:
Tebow 75.3
Dak 96.0

TD/INT:
Tebow 17/9
Dak 67/25

Dak isn't Tom Brady but he's not Tim Tebow, either.

Top ten free agent for safety...support the turn-over aspect.

Strong defensive tackle, even if a pick from next season is needed to be added for moving up in the draft.

Add in concentration on open field tackling and the defense moves up to very tough.

Resign Sean Lee to a reduced salary for a couple more seasons!!

Maybe a veteran QB2.
It'[s a great point because who does Dak lean on when he struggles with coverage reads or other in-game issues?

Garrett? He was supposed to be that guy but I think most of us feel it was more Romo than him.
Moore? You hope so, but he is completely unprovem
Cooper Rush or Mike White? Come on now.

I know no one wants to touch him but if anyone could handle the heat, it's Jerry Jones. I would consider bringing in Art Briles as an offensive consultant. I know people will balk at what went on under his watch at Baylor but as an offensive consultant on an NFL team, he would literally be in charge of nothing.
