I’m not saying it’s going to happen but it’s pretty simple to see that there is a legitimate chance Payton makes the move. Obviously the Saints have the upper hand, but there is a logical line of thinking here. Not just unfounded rumor.
It's very obvious. Garrett no extension was the icing on the cake. He's done after 2019 season just as Payton. Coincidence? I think not. Jerry already made a deal. Unfortunately, the media/fans can only go by the rumors that trickled out.

So what about Payon would be any different from Parcells not getting them over. Is Jerry somehow magically mysteriously not going to be the owner. Dont get me wrong I'm not advocating for Garret. I'm just not as overly impressed with Payton and believe the belief of him leaving NO is unicorns spreading fairy dust. What are you seeing that I'm not because I'm still seeing the guy that had his play calling duties taken away with the giants!
Well said. What I was trying to say in a nutshell is simply that Cowboys fans are so hungry for some coaching and leadership credibility, we sometimes become overly optimistic about certain things. The last 23 years has been a beat down and hope is often all we have.

Wasn't it Broadus that was guaranteeing they were trading a 2nd for Thomas without even asking permission to negotiate a new contract with him 1st or was that Eatman.

Either way, the guy was right. The Cowboys did offer their second round pick for Earl Thomas. Seattle turned it down.

Regardless I've got about a dozen friends and family who are Saints diehards that are convinced he's about to sign a new contract for 12m, eclipsing the contract signed by Carroll.

So you're questioning team reporters but giving credence to what your friends are saying? I think there's your first problem right there.

Considering he's only managed one superbowl with Brees as the qb in a relatively weak division, and some of the horrible drafts he's had at the insitance of full control, I'm not sure why everyone is so enamored with him to begin with!

The Saints struggles have always been on the defensive side of the ball, when Payton has had a good defensive coordinator to handle that side of the ball, he's won. Even when the team's record overall wasn't good, his offense's are still ranked among the league's best.

And let's not forget, if the refs were able to do their jobs, he may have had another Super Bowl this year.

20 years later? That's still "what you're seeing"? A Super Bowl and Hall of Fame quarterback later and that's "what you're seeing"? That sounds like a personal issue.

Part of the reason his defenses have been bad is the players he picked, including a top 15 dt were a complete washout. He cut ties with the one DC after one season... the guy was all the rage in giants land a couple of years earlier. I can't see Dak or many other QBs running that offense successfully. How much of his success is actually Brees?

You can look up Payton's track record. His offenses are undeniably and consistently among the league's best, year after year. If there's a criticism, it's that the defensive side of the ball lets the team down. You can blame Payton for not being able to find or then keep defensive coordinators if you want. But when he has even a decent defense, he wins.

I can't see Dak or many other QBs running that offense successfully.

No way of truly knowing unless it happens. But I give him credit for resuscitating the failing career of Kerry Collins in New York, developing an undrafted Tony Romo in Dallas, and then helping Drew Brees to develop into the Hall of Fame player he is today.

How much of his success is actually Brees?

No way of knowing, but the fact is that Brees numbers are far better under Payton that they ever were before:

Why would the Saints even want to trade him? I don't understand any of this Payton talk.... Why is it again that he thinks Dallas is a better spot than New Orleans?

Payton has already answered this when he said when your the HC of Dallas Cowboys they know your name in China.
