Will Jerry ever bring in a proven HC again?

He bought in Manboobs #Parcels when the entire organization was failing. Organization they are doing great as far as drafting talented players. I think his morality as far as how much time he has left may bring him to that point if he has to fire Garrett.

Jerry has only brought in a proven HC twice in his era. Initially to set the teams course bringing them out of potential bankruptcy and the second time to resurrect from a 5-11 Funk to gain public support for a new stadium.

What would it take for Jerry to set his ego aside again or stop his pursuit of trying to prove he can build and win a championship without a proven HC who’d receive more credit than him?

Or are we stuck in this situation until Jerry’s last breathe barring a total collapse or financial barrier?

Remember he tried winning championships with a great HC but didn’t like not receiving the credit he was pursuing. What gives us hope Jerry will change?

Only chance of that happening is if he brings in Sean after this season

IMO that’s moving the goal post to support another narrrative.

I’d argue Jimmy would fall into a proven or up an coming HC and Switzer wouldn’t . Barry had been out of football. Jimmys greatest asset was knowing the current college crop coming up and Miami’s pro set offense as one of the hottest coaching prospects that even Tex had mentioned before Jerry was in the picture.

What are you talking about? You are convincing yourself of something that isn’t there. There is no narrative. I didn’t talk about the quality of any of the coaches Jerry hired, or about their prepardness for the NFL when they were hired. I merely made a statement of fact that Barry Switzer was an established college coach just as Jimmy Johnson was an established college coach. If you are attaching any other meaning or significance to what I wrote you are doing so incorrectly

When Jerry wanted a proven HC, he got Parcells.

Garrett had similar experience to McVay when Garrett was hired as the Head Coach.

Sometimes the recycled Head Coaching hires work out; however, it seems that as many or more successful Head Coaches were not previously NFL Head Coaches and many were not college Head Coaches.

Most fans wish Sean Payton would have been hired by the Cowboys instead of the Saints; however, while Payton had more years as an assistant coach than Garrett, he was only promoted to OC in 2000 and then demoted before joining the Cowboys in 2003. He was never officially given the title of OC in Dallas, IIRC. Was Payton a proven coach when the Saints hired him?

Personally, there are only a few current NFL Head Coaches that I would want Jerry to hire if they became available.

I think the young, less proven guys like McVay are often a better option.

Hired Coach
2019 Zac Taylor
2019 Vic Fangio
2019 Matt LaFleur
2019 Kliff Kingsbury
2019 Freddie Kitchens
2019 Bruce Arians
2019 Brian Flores
2019 Adam Gase
2018 Pat Shurmur
2018 Mike Vrabel
2018 Matt Patricia
2018 Matt Nagy
2018 Jon Gruden
2018 Frank Reich
2017 Sean McVay
2017 Sean McDermott
2017 Kyle Shanahan
2017 Doug Marrone
2017 Anthony Lynn
2016 Doug Pederson
2015 Dan Quinn
2014 Mike Zimmer
2014 Jay Gruden
2014 Bill O'Brien
2013 Andy Reid
2011 Ron Rivera
2010 Pete Carroll
2010 Jason Garrett
2008 John Harbaugh
2007 Mike Tomlin
2006 Sean Payton
2000 Bill Belichick
exactly to say proven is wanting a retread.. the unproven ones are arisk and thats why Jerry has been hesitant firing Jason but another slow start or disappointing ending and hes gone..

It’s certainly their right to feel that way assuming they have all of the information.

No, it’s never enough being right. The stake must be driven in time and time again until all are convinced much like preaching any gospel. There’s always the potential of another soul saved.

And just because it’s a lost cause for Jerry doesn’t mean it still can’t be called out regardless if the battle is lost. I’m still amazed how many fans still provide Jerry a pass for his early success.
Is it a pass for his early success or resignation to his management thereafter? I have never spent a dime with him, not one, but what else can I or anyone else do? The team is going to continue to sell out and some who are pissed here buy tickets, they are not willing to punish themselves in the extreme remote possibility they could harm him. They don't buy those tickets, somebody else will.

I have separated Booger from the team as much as I can, the only other thing I could do is not participate here but then who would those that put me on ignore turn to then?

The man owns the team that I have been a fan of for most of my life, there's not much I can do but do my best to ignore his existence. I can't spend any less than zero.

Yes they were both established college coaches but Barry had been retired a few years. Jimmy was the hottest current prospect in College in which he would have been pursued by others . I’m not sure if Barry would have been pursued by anyone other than Jerry in that particular situation .Huge difference.

I loved Johnson, but I find it telling that he had no success anywhere but in Dallas.
My point is it's never one guy.

This isn’t about our financial support. This is about acknowledging the core cause of our obstacles.

And you can’t seperate Jerry from the Cowboys as much as we’d like to. He’s front and center and represents everything we’ve become. Ignoring his existence is in part denying his contributions to the obstacles were attempting to overcome.

I understand it’s difficult for some to love the team while hating the leadership but it’s really not that difficult as most hate our leadership while loving the country.

What we can do is keep the pressure on. If not then we simply make it easier for him.

Jerry admitted later he wanted Manziel and was talked out of it.
And I think that happened but his son pushing him up against the wall and jerking the ticket out of his hand was folklore. He would not treat his Dad that way.

I predicted Booger would pick Manziel when he was a freshman at A&M because he was exactly what he wanted, a new center ring act with a huge base of alum in the Metroplex to shear. But then the news came out that they spent their entire 15 minute interview on his off the field maneuvers and I do think that was at the behest of Son to hone in on that. I think Booger had already decided if he was there, he was taking him. I can only imagine all of the people in that war room watching Manziel fall and when Goodell went to announce it, I zeroed in on his mouth, first time I ever did that with a man's mouth, to make sure he wasn't forming a J.

I liked him as well but he would have taken James Francis instead of Emmitt if CIN hadn't taken him and there was that supplemental pick of Walsh after spending the 1st pick on Aikman. But, Johnson had a lot of hits on talent. I think his two coordinators deserve as much credit as he's received.

Lol - you are arguing something that makes zero sense to argue. Again, I never remotely indicated Barry was as prepared or as suited for the NFL as Jimmy. That’s something you fabricated in your head. I commented ONLY on the term “established coach”. Not “best coach” or “most NFL ready coach”, or “hottest coach” anything else you have somehow imagined I suggested.

The fact that Jaguar is a better vehicle than Ford doesn’t change the fact that Ford is an established brand of vehicle, and Jimmy being better suited to coach in the NFL doesn’t change the fact that Swistzer was an established college coach.

Someone did. I’m not sure if it was you or not. I was just responding to your quote which spurred the thought.

Seems the trend in the nfl is going away from proven HC
Over the last few years doesn’t seem like many have been hired

I don't have numbers, but I'll bet that proven coordinators are usually a better bet than a proven HC retread from another team.

The Walsh pick was actually very smart. It was insurance and eventually landed 3 more picks in a trade.

And whoever said Jimmy didn’t have success in Miami must be comparing the success he had in Dallas and an attempt to defend Jerry which is the most disgusting thing a Cowboy fan can do. It’s just another example coaching is dependent on their talent but if I recall correctly Jimmy got Miami back into the playoffs again and their owner Herzog refused making a blockbuster trade with Marino that Jimmy wanted.

Man, so many facts. People really forget how good of a coach Jimmy was. Shoot he was so good belichek hangs out with him every offseason to fish and pick his brain about coaching. Probably one of the best coaches ever to coach picks Jimmy Johnson's brain about coaching just let that sink in. That will be Jerry's legacy, forcing Jimmy out the door. He should never be forgiven just for that alone.

So many flame out, I don't know. But how many of the retreads like Fox and Turner make it either?

A lot is made of McVay's rise and he is a smart guy but the pieces were all there and they gave him a vet DC, another example of a coordinator failing as a HC, so all he had to do was fix the offense.

What fascinates me is that these coordinators get hired because of a breakthrough year like Marvin Lewis and he never comes close to recreating his BAL defense, same goes for Turner and his DAL offense and the latest is Quinn in ATL, where's the defense?

He was leaving anyway because he never intended on making Dallas his home, the sea was calling. He was already making plans to get back to Florida but Booger accelerated that with getting drunk and all butthurt about the lack of respect they were showing him.

And how could he ask for respect when every coach at that table knew Wannstedt had to talk Jimmy into coming into the war room because Booger had asked him to make it look like it was really his draft by looking at him for approval on each pick. Jimmy was already mentally on the boat. He built the team for Booger and delivered one of the best teams of all time and now this guy was wanting to steal some credit? What a fragile ego Jones has to even ask his coach and at the time, friend, to do that.

I don't care how much money he makes or what he buys, Booger will always be a pathetic character in my eyes, looking for any camera or mic to shine a light on himself.
