What, another Earl Thomas article connecting him with the Cowboys? Yes, that’s what’s happening. Now that Thomas is a free agent, there will be plenty of speculation about whether he will wear the Star until he either signs with Dallas or with another team.

When he was still with Seattle last year, we know that the Cowboys and the Seahawks had discussions about trading him, that went all the way back to the offseason before the draft. It never came to fruition but it did show Dallas had interest. Now that he’s a free agent, the question is just how much would it take to sign him? ESPN steps in and gives us a marker.

I'd have done it 3 years ago, only to be disappointed when his missed 19 of the next 48 games.

No. Give me Landon Collins. Earl Thomas is in his 30's how and coming off a season ending industry. And safety was hardly the problem last year.

Between the Colts and the Rams, I think Marinelli got pantsed again. Or Richard did, and Marinelli showed him how. I don't think either game is an indication of the quality of our players as much as the quality of our coaching.

I never have liked our ability to change during games to shutdown something working for the other team.

I know he had an injury but he should be ready to go.

Free Safeties, if you're a good one have been known to play pro bowl level football into their mid 30's. On a 4 year deal I'm not worried about ET being 29 right now.

Rod and Charles Woodson, Ed Reed, Ty Law, Champ Bailey, John Lynch, Steve Atwater, Eric Weddle, on and on. Eric Berry is 30 and making over $12 million per.

Earl Thomas instantly aids us in the turnover department and challenging for balls in the air. Something we are outright lacking back there in the secondary. Sure tackling and the guys a turnover catalyst.

He held out almost the whole training camp and when he played us he was the biggest difference in the game looking mid-season form. His instincts, anticipation and knowledge of the game are 2nd to none at his position and the last safety of his caliber was Ed Reed.

Sign Thomas and get us another disruptive DT in the middle that handles the run just as much and this defense should be complete.

This Earl Thomas talk reminds me of all the Darren McFadden talk. The Cowboys fell in love with McFadden in the draft and eventually got him at the end of his career after he was pretty much done. He never lived up to the hype! If your going to sign anyone he needs to be young, not a 30 year old guy who has suffered numerous injuries. Collins would be the guy to target or just draft a guy! Who they have now isnt that bad.

Dallas has difference making talent at every level of the defense right now and then a hug drop-off at Safety. They wanted to trade for him last offseason and he wanted to be here. I see no way that Dallas does not heavily pursue him honestly.

This team was in cap heck for years, signing a guy who's already 30 years old to a 4 year deal is not good business. Who wants to pay a 34 year old safety $10 million? Yes I know you can front load the contract, but then you'd essentially be paying Earl like $30 mil for 2 years or such, limiting your ability to sign Lawrence, Zeke, etc.

If Earl really wants to play for Dallas, he'll to take less money than he got last time...

Everything the Cowboys as an organization have done in the last 5 years goes against signing aging, injury prone players on the downside of their career. Don't expect a change.

Earl Thomas is an exception.

I would hope they won't overpay him, but with Jerry, if he is hot after a player he'll do whatever it takes to get him.

Of course if he comes here, I'll support him all the way, if he is a team player. Not so sure about that, seems to me he thinks he's the savior of the Dallas defense, running over to a coach and saying "sign me" isn't a good sign to me, though I could be interpreting that wrong, can't read the guy's mind...

This is confusing. In the Cowboys playoff game against the Rams Goff only completed 53% of his passes, only had 186 yards, and didn’t throw for a TD. The Rams running game shredded the Cowboys, but their passing game was mostly ineffective.

In the NFL, there really is just no magical line in the dirt that when someone reaches 30...he does not equal to his real market value.

To a conditioned and dedicated player, that age is no more than a number. Darrel Green won the sprint competition for the Pro Bowl at age 40. Think about it.

Right now, he's the 7th best prospect going into free agency...Lawrence is the top.
