Projected first-round NFL Draft selection Jeffery Simmons, a talented defensive lineman out of Mississippi State, has suffered a serious injury during a pre-combine training sessions, per ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen.

Simmons is thought to have torn a ligament in his knee, which would undoubtedly affect his draft stock later this year. Simmons was rated as the nation's No. 18 player overall, a five-star talent as the top player in Mississippi, in the 2016 class per the 247Sports Composite.

Not again. I love Simmons but redshirting a player with the hopes he can come back is not something I want to see again.

For a legit top 15 pick? He still might not make it out of the 1st even if he misses the year.
Jaylon Smith was considered that and did. Granted it was not exactly a simple ACL with him.

I hope he's not even an option for the players sake. If he's there for us in the second, it's because there's complications from his injury. This is why the medical checks are the most important aspect of the combine.

Jaylon Smith was being talked about in the 3rd round leading up to the draft. That some team would roll the dice on him late on Day 2. Then the Cowboys shocked everybody taking him at the top of the 2nd round.

But he's not the typical ACL situation.

How early would you pull the trigger? 4th, 5th,

Ummmm, the team already gambled twice in the 2nd on injured players [Lee (his injury history supposedly knocked him out of the 1st Round0, Smith)………….I could see Jerry doing it again. Simmons is a stud, and, if just a common ACL tear, could probably be ready for the second half of the year.

Simmons at 58 is a steal.

I want the immediate help but I'm not sure I could pass him up there.

We won't have to worry about it though..even injured he's going way before we pick.

Yep.

Clearly you want someone that can help you immediately but Simmons sitting there at 58 would be too good to pass up.

I mean there is another way you could help yourself anyway roster wise if you use your 58th pick on a guy that will sit out the 2019 season.......... it's called free agency, Stephen, you twit.

We draft too well to participate in free agency.

Take him if he drops that far. Garretts still here so next year will be about leading in jersey sales again not championships. Besides after seeing NE win another ring we all be hearing about the 22 package which confused the Rams, you know the one with Zeke and Bryce Love in September as an alternative.
