But hey.. Ryan Fitzpatrick is a good start. He can produce similar to Dak if not better in the passing game and we can put the game in Zekes hands.

Sorry but there is no other person on Earth who believes that, including Fitzpatrick's immediate family. He is the definition of a JAG, which is why he has played for seven different teams.

Fitzpatrick may not be a franchise guy, but he's been in the league since 2005 with multiple teams, has been a starter multiple times and has had some good years at one of the hardest positions in all of sports.

He's more than a "JAG". Even his few starts last year shows he's not a JAG - heck, he did some things in the positive department that Dak isn't capable of doing.

Yes, Fitzpatrick can do things that Dak cant:

1. Chart plays as a backup
2. Explain how waiver wires work
3. Move the projector cart back after film study
4. Hold for extra points to justify a roster spot
5. Explain how the coupons work at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Did I miss anything?

I'd let him hit the open market.

There is no way he would leave Dallas and I don't think there would be a big market for Dak Prescott.

No need to compete against ourselves on this one. Pay him top dollar according to the market and if some team is dumb enough to give him a huge contract then let him walk.
So let your franchise QB leave for nothing, then what? draft a QB in 2020 and wait until 2023 when he's ready, lol.

...this is dumb. Again, Fitzpatrick has started in this league, just like Dak has. There is simply no denying, Fitzpatrick has an arm and can make more big plays down the field. The problem with Fitzpatrick is that he's turnover prone - since he's not a Brett Favre talent, he didn't last as a franchise guy. You think Dak will last if he doesn't take the next step and continues to play as the Walmart version of Alex Smith? Eventually, that'll get him a backup role as well, despite the money we give to him.

You don't last 10+ years in this league as a "JAG".

BTW most teams if not every team bid against themselves when EXTENDING their own QB.

Just sign Dak, bite the bullet and hope for the best.

If you don't believe the QB on your roster has what it takes to win you a championship, you shouldn't be calling him a "franchise guy" and you shouldn't keep him because it's simply tough to find QBs and it takes time to develop. This is why the QB market it insane and why QBs like Cutler are kept around for years as starters in hopes they "finally get it"

If you don't view your QB, right now, as a franchise guy you move on and don't give him that contract. But Jerry has stated he views Dak as that, but nobody here has to agree with that.

No, the comparison is stupid. Fitzpatrick didn't have a season with a winning record untill he was THIRTY THREE YEARS OLD. Dak has started every game he has ever seen, Fitzpatrick didn't start in his first three years in the league.

Ask any serious person in the NFL if they want to pin their franchise on bringing in a 37 year old journeyman QB and they still laugh out loud.

"Half the players in the league" will be out of job by the time their rookie contracts are up and will be playing on an AAF team. Those are JAGs.

Give me a list of QBs right now in this league that have lasted 10+ years. Most of them are starters. Fitzpatrick isn't a franchise QB, he's a good backup and that is not a "JAG".

LOL talking about individual players, and then you go to team records. Typical Kaiser....

And who has stated making Fitzpatrick a franchise guy at his age? Quote them.

However, I'm against big contracts for QB's in the first place. Giving them big contracts messes up the entire team. The Vikings contract for Cousins has messed up a lot of future contracts for QB's in the league.
Run running QBs. Churn them if they don't look like they're on the path to be elite passers. Only pay big contracts for the elite passers you want to keep a decade.

We should have been bringing in QBs once we let Tony go. Draft. Decent contract for more veteran players to develop. Maybe you find a guy who fits us better.

Tony said he really on "got it" mid 2013. Gannon was a journeyman in his mid thirties before he started making Pro Bowls and MVP with the Raiders.

Alex Smith got 94 Million over 4 years, 27MM on signing and 71MM guaranteed. Dak would get offers and they would be sizable.

Skins don't have a QB anymore but are stuck with a huge Salary Cap hit from a proven JAG quaterback. Skins gambled not paying Kirk Cousins, and by gave up draft picks and a huge pay day to Alex Smith for what....just to find another QB

Alex Smith and Sam Bradford have a lot in common, both 1st round picks that got several huge contracts for average performance. Will the Cowboys do the same thing?

People are just generally stupid and uninformed about, oh... everything.
And yet many of them think they are experts on fields they actually have very little REAL knowledge of.

That's us humans baby.

We don’t let him leave for nothing.. We let him leave and save a ton of cap space and go get some other guy who is Dakverage and pay him less.

If Dak leaves we're headed for a fat comp pick.

Relatively not as big a deal for a QB, but the NFL is designed for you to churn players you're not in love with for picks instead of paying them a free agent contract.

Hooray, an end of the 3rd round pick (really a top of the 4th round pick) for a QB that has helped this team to 2 Division titles in his 3 years...
