This Earl Thomas talk reminds me of all the Darren McFadden talk. The Cowboys fell in love with McFadden in the draft and eventually got him at the end of his career after he was pretty much done. He never lived up to the hype! If your going to sign anyone he needs to be young, not a 30 year old guy who has suffered numerous injuries. Collins would be the guy to target or just draft a guy! Who they have now isnt that bad.

You must be joking.

McFadden was a bust and a running back who was falling apart when he came here... Earl Thomas is still the best safety in the league...

McFadden also didn't fit our offense...

What, another Earl Thomas article connecting him with the Cowboys? Yes, that’s what’s happening. Now that Thomas is a free agent, there will be plenty of speculation about whether he will wear the Star until he either signs with Dallas or with another team.

When he was still with Seattle last year, we know that the Cowboys and the Seahawks had discussions about trading him, that went all the way back to the offseason before the draft. It never came to fruition but it did show Dallas had interest. Now that he’s a free agent, the question is just how much would it take to sign him? ESPN steps in and gives us a marker.

Dallas signs Thomas to a four-year, $40 million deal

It seems almost inevitable that the Cowboys will go after Earl Thomas, given his history in Texas and the presence of former Seahawks defensive coordinator Kris Richard on their coaching staff. With Tony Romo’s contract finally off the books, the Cowboys have the cap space to consummate their long-held interest in the future Hall of Famer...

No. I don't like his two broken legs in the past three years, his 31 years of age or his attitude.

If I was GM, there’s no way I would do that deal. A guy who is 30, has broken his leg twice in 3 seasons and has also had major shoulder surgery is not a wise choice for a $10 million a season contract.

NO.

I never have liked our ability to change during games to shutdown something working for the other team.

Yep.
Or to take advantage of an opponent's injury and depth issues.

"We do what we do" just leaves money on the table.

There's another Garrettism for adjusting when particular players of ours are having problems. He likes players to "work through adversity". Hence Chaz Green vs. Atlanta.

Garrett costs us on game day.

An aggressive player in the NFL, ends up with broken bones at some point. Neither injury limited mobility or his skill set. He'll be 30 this season, but that doesn't cause a career to drop off the table.

His attitude was around not being given considerations for a lucrative contract, similar to what happened to Bell. Sometimes, a player has to look after his own position in the pay scheme.

You don't like him...so?

He is still a Pro Bowl talent and would create opportunity for turn-overs and upgrade the Dallas defense by his presence.

As to a need to cry in one's beer over a topic upon Thomas...

Nick Hayden of the secondary. Great desire and effort but that doesn't trump talent.

Exactly. I feel the same way about Crawford. A great, try-hard, team guy who's a round peg in a square hole without a true starting role, getting paid a starter's salary. Those two spots have to change.

Using that criteria, Lawrence, both Smith's, Frederick, Lee should all be gone this off season. Except for age on a Smith, Frederick, and Lawrence.

" You don't like him...so?". Precisely, it's just an opinion and I won't cry in my beer when he doesn't play for the Cowboys in 2019. There will be lots of watered down beer when he signs somewhere else though. Again, just an opinion:popcorn:

Signing with another, is nothing beyond your own limiting discussion...and so noted.

How would you feel if he was All Pro with Dallas and the team then played in the NFC Championship game? Watered down beer...?

All you have to do is look at what happened to the S position in FA in 2018 and see these guys arent going to get big money.
None did
That’s a good point though non had ET ability
I’d look, I just don’t know about 4 yrs at 40 mil
If it’s structured to get out of in a couple years and maybe a tad cheaper I’d look real hard

Huh? I’m for keeping all those guys. They’re under contract. Thomas is a risk at this point that I don’t think is worth. He was once great. But his best days are behind him. He should be paid accordingly. But someone will overpay for his past performance. Hopefully not us.

If you really don't understand what was stated, stay out of that conversation...

What makes you think he is a shell? His first 4 games were at top shelf for his position, and included a MVP game performance against Dallas.

You give up after a broken bone?

It’s his second broken leg and he’s had major surgery on his shoulder as well...all within last 3 seasons. He’s missed 19 games in 3 seasons due to injuries, which is the avg equivalent of missing 40% of the last three seasons. I think it would be irresponsible to not consider that a high risk.

Yes you sign him.

He gets his deal and you use that deal to leverage other deals.

The cap will increase more and you will use his contract to redo it and borrow cap space as time goes on.

Having Zeke and Dak on the books soon allows the same thing.

What is the matter with you guys?

Everybody is harping about the money.

It's about winning while you can.

After 25 years of stumbling in the dark and whistling past the graveyard..

it's time to go all out for 2-3 years and let the chips fall where they will.

He's old. Pass.

12 games were this past season, and he played at Pro Bowl level for the first four games. That leaves, what, six games over two years...what is your argument now?

How many games have both Smiths missed for Dallas?

If you just don't want to actually discuss merit in a full picture...I'll just move on to your chosen view.

I think we needn upgrade at safety and Dt but not at the expense of picking up a fa te and one more stud wr who can make an immediate impact.

If I'm going to get Earl Thomas it's because I'm trading off Dlaw or Lee and Crawford .
I'm not taking the cap savings from cutting Hurns, Austin, Twill, and Beasley and using that on anything besides bringing in a top #2 wr and an improvement at te.

Our #1, #2wr and te tandems are just not that potent on paper. These are the constants who will get all of the Snaps. We been settling too long with these Mediocre #2 wrs and Tight ends and our passing proficiency is trash. We gotta get our top 3 constants in check on offense or it's gonna be a trash offense next year too. How many more playoff games are we gonna win with only Cooper and Zeke and a 2 TD #2 wr rookie? We need a stud outside wr and te who is gonna get the most snaps and quit worrying about drafting possession wrs .We need a wr and te who can go up and get a ball or at least has some sort of ELITE SKILLSET Don't stick us with a sorry te core and #2 wr for another 5+ years Jerrah. Go get a Jared Cook or Tyler Eiffert or A Brown or Golden Tate We don't want the TWILLS AND SWAIMS AS CONSTANTS ON OFFENSE. 24 YEARS WE BEEN TRYING TO WIN WITH ONLY A #1 WR AND A RB AND 2 GREAT SKILLED PLAYERS OUT 6 and a spot played #3 wr is not POTENT ENOUGH OFFENSIVELY. WE HAVE THE SORRIEST TE CORE AND IT SHOWS IN THE RED ZONE STATS . ID TAKE THE BROKEN DOWN SHELL OF #88 OVER ANY OF OUR WRS IN THE RED ZONE. We need impactful players who can score on offense if we're gonna get to the TOP

What we have here CC is a difference of opinion. It’s not treason to have differing views bro.
