What DE’s will be there at 58?

Liking Ferguson as an option for us if we go DE.

Really wish we could’ve seen him work out.
Well maybe that is best.

If he was allowed to do so and blew it up, people around here would be losing their minds.

All in though, he really sets the cut off point in terms of DEs that I see available that would be worth our 2nd.

The run on pass rushers and defensive linemen will be huge. It will consume a lot of the first round.

This is not one of those years where you can pretend you can get a good one later on if you are patient.

With the amount of top 50 type players at
both DT and DE someone has to fall...we just don’t know what position yet.

I’m happy with either.

I agree the amount of talent in the forty to sixty range this year is silly. We are going to have on the menu several hi value choices at pick 58. Now they may not fulfill a need but there will be value.

I’d be shocked if there isn’t a DE, DT or S that warrants the pick and is good value in the 2nd.

the Texas DE might be there at 58..I forget his name...he's number 90 and his last name is hard to pronounce. He is a pass rusher.

He’s a tweener that just ran a 4.9.

Crawford is probably his ceiling, so I’m not taking him in the 2nd.
I dunno..SOME guys at the combine thought he was really rising in the draft. Maybe he's raw.

I like the player, but he’s not athletic enough to rush the edge at the next level.

His best bet is probably beefing up and playing 3T.

Wanted to re-visit this post combine as I've gone back and looked at a few dudes. My hope is with the amount of talent SOMEONE falls...and I think Jaylon Ferguson would be an outstanding target for us...but worst case scenario in that all of the top tier guys are gone, here are some dudes I like as mid round options:

Jordan Brailford - heck of a senior season and a solid 4.65 40 at the combine. I was surprised at how natural he looked rushing the passer. Good first step, good burst and showcased some ability to bend the corner. Also some pop in the getting off blocks in the run game. Per PFF, highest pass rush productivity on 3rd down in the Big 12 last year. 31 pressures and 31 stops - so balanced player.

Justin Hollins - 6'5, 250 with a 4.5 40 and 7.06 3 cone? That's a joke at that size. Unfortunately, it doesn't translate to the same type of pass rush ability as Brailford. Pretty solid against the run, but you're drafting more on pass potential due to his athleticism.

Oshane Ximines - small school player with monster production. 18.5 TFL, 12 sacks, 55 pressures and 39 stops. Fluid, good pass rush plan and natural getting after the QB. Needs to add some power to be more effective against the run, but could likely give you some pass rush juice in year 1. Likely the first to go off this list.

Chase Winovich - definition of motor, grit, passion , RUDy, whatever you want to call it...the dude has it. I believe he tested a little above what shows on tape, but aggressive and productive against the run and gives you a little bit as a pass rusher. I don't think he's ever going to turn into a double digit sack guy - but if we're ok with someone being a solid run defender and can give you 6 or so sacks a year might be an option.

Anthony Nelson - mountain of a man with surprising agility for someone his size. Good use of length, good power, but like some of the others doesn't have the natural bend around the edge so might be a limited rusher at the next level.

Due to the difficulty of finding natural pass rushers, Brailford and Ximines are 2 of my early favorites.

Don't see that any of the top DEs will be there at 58. You never know, sometimes there's a rush on other positions and teams get fearful all the good ones will be gone, so they grab a DT or S or such earlier than they planned so as not to miss out on at least a good one of those.

And if the top ones aren't there at 58, I'd not have a problem with the Cowboys taking a DE that's consistent at what he does, even if it's not top notch all the way. Projects are okay, like:

Anthony Nelson, DE, Iowa
Height: 6-6. Weight: 272. Arm: 34.75. Hand: 9.63.
Projected 40 Time: 4.82.
Projected Round (2019): 3-5.

He has the measurables, played at an upper level school, can be had for not a huge cost.

Just an example...

+ Austin Bryant - who I have no idea what to think of...

If all 7 of what I consider the top tier pass rushers are gone at 58, then that means a darn good S or DT will be available.
