Would you trade Lawrence?

Draft show brought up a good hypothetical the other day. If the price is just too much to take on, would you consider trading DLaw to a team like the Colts who have a ton of money for a 1st and 3rd?

It would suck to lose him but the positive would be the money saved to extend more of the core guys next year.

Of course. He's not untouchable. You can't over value your players to the point of being irrational. If they offer him a fair long term deal for a top 5-10ish DE and they aren't even close to his asking price then a trade should be considered.

It won't be popular but it could be the best decision over the long term.

The longer this drags out, the more our front office stands the chance of having to commit half of their available cap space to one player or even worse, be left in the cold, holding the bag.

Talking Cowboys brought up the Pats situation with Jones and how they let him walk...unfortunately we dont have the luxury of having Brady.

You simply cannot get hindered by a 20m dollar guy that doesn't give you Khalil mack production.

if I knew there was no chance of a deal...yes.
And I liked the Ed Oliver option in their scenario...but I also think you could just keep the picks and get 3 solid players...including a DE.
My preference tho would be to keep him.

Just take a look around the league. Teams signing mega-star contracts are trying desperately to walk away from them within two years.

Vernon had to be swapped out. Two years from now, we will likely be in the same boat if he's signed for four more years.

The problem with getting rid of Lawrence is replacing Lawrence.

A first round pick and $20 million in freed up cash sounds great, but then you have to consider what it costs to get another starting level DE. You'd probably have to burn that first round pick for sure and hope that he hits, pretty much to get back to where you started at.

Lawrence doesn't have an LT level drug problem like Chandler Jones at the time. Not everything is apple's to apple's cnu.

That’s a fine way to be in perpetual rebuilding mode. I think we’re in a 2-3 year window that we have to take advantage of. Tank will get a large contract, but I don’t think it will hamstrung is in the next 5 years.

Nah, Stephen's not showing he can work the cap well enough to win a SB not matter what approach. Not saying DLaw should be highest paid, just saying his numbers are comparable to Mack, so for posters to say he isn't on that level is shortsighted.

I think the team props up the QB, actually so to pay him elite money will hurt him and the team. Also, not saying paying DLaw is the answer either, but to talk of trading him and not the QB is interesting, to say the least.
