A guy who is a "freak" who had a stretch of like 6 games where he did next to nothing. That's not "top" to me - having a bad game is one thing, disappearing in the months of December/January is another. He had a good playoff game and then turned around and had a 4 catch for 36 yards against the Rams.

Hopkins is a freak. Brown is a freak. Julio Jones is a freak. Michael Thomas is a WR product of the Saints system that has been crapping out big WR numbers for over a decade.

Well you gotta pass the eyeball test and Thomas looks freakier then all of 'em

To me there are 2 signs of a great player:

Can you produce at the critical times?

Can you do that consistently?

AB= 2 /2
Cooper= 0/2
Divisional game vs. WAS for first place in the division? 8 catches for 180 yards and 2 TD's.
Division and playoff berth on the line vs. Philly? 10 catches for 217 yard and 3 TD's. Including the game winner in OT.
Wildcard playoff game vs. Seattle? 7 catches for 106 yards, including a big 34 yard catch in the 4th quarter that led to the go ahead TD.
Divisional playoff game vs. LA? 6 catches for 65 yards and 1 TD. Also drew a pass interference in the endzone that led to an easy TD for the offense.

Do those count as critical times?

Thats a scary thought.

Cooper has half a season of production for us, that was preceded by lackluster play for two and a half seasons. (Not positive on that number) His history isn't close to ABs dominance.

HOWEVER, he came into the league very young and has produced whenever the climate of his team isn't toxic.

He also appears to be a great teammate and unselfish player. His difference to our team was massive. Coop is an instant upgrade to the entire offense, especially the QB.

He will definitely get paid and he deserves it. Imo though, he shouldn't be getting AB money.

Go back and check Coopers production again. He had one down season and, he was injured.

Cooper has been very productive for 3 out of 4 years in the league.

My goodness people are so jaded that they are now twisting things to make it seem like Amari wasn’t a stud for us this past season.

Unbelievable.

Some have said that "Gruden has replaced Amari Cooper and two mid-round picks with Antonio Brown and a first-rounder. That's a ridiculous upgrade" but is it really? Let's break it down.

Amari Cooper (24 year old) Top 5 Pick was traded for a Late 1st rounder= Massive fail. Based on what he did in Dallas after he left, the Raiders and Gruden had massive egg on their face

Antonio Brown (31 Year Old) was acquired for a 3rd and 5th round pick and paid $50 million dollars just to attempt to remove the egg that's on their face from the Cooper trade. Problem with the trade is AB is older, he has an attitude problem and the trade does not fit the Raider Model of rebuilding. Production wise Antonio Brown who was catching 100-120 balls a year with 12-15 TD's will probably be a 70-80 catch guy in Oakland and score 7-10 TD's next year and then down from there. He may breakout in the first season to prove himself but by the time the Raiders get to Las Vegas in 2020, AB will be 32 and clearly on the back 9 of his career, not a great situation for the Las Vegas Raiders. They paid for past production. They will roll into Vegas with the "Oldest" WR tandem in the NFL 35 year old Jordy Nelson and 32 year old Antonio Brown. Would have been awesome back in 2015, great work Gruden.

In the end:

Raiders Lose - 24 year old Amari Cooper (Top 5 Pick), 3rd round pick, 5th Round Pick

Raiders Gain - Late 1st rounder and an aging 31 year old veteran with a $50 Million dollar contract

EPIC FAIL

I wouldn’t want Mr. Big Chest on my team if he played for free. Amari is just as talented and a great team guy to boot. Great job by our front office to get him!

Yes, those count
But that was half a season where Cooper was exceptionally motivated
Let's see what happens over the next few years once he gets paid

Brown is going to go from peak WR age to greyhair status in those 5 years, while Cooper will head towards peak WR age. Different offenses. Diff QBs. What will you be comparing?

Yds/game
TDs/game

Meanwhile you will be making excuses for Cooper

The Raiders just screwed the Steelers. They got the best WR in the NFL for basically nothing.

You can’t really compare the trade for Cooper to this one. Brown put the Steelers in an awful position. They had to trade him and he would only accept a trade to someone that was going to pay him massive money. The Raiders knew they didn’t have to offer much because no other team would/could offer such big money.

Let's be serious. The Raiders wanted to cut salary from the previous regime to start over. They didnt want to pay Mack just like we dont want to pay Lawrence max max money. Amari was moderately effective for the Raiders who drafted him in the first round. They Raiders recoup 1st round picks for both Mack and Amari, they can start over without the salary cap "anchors" that most teams not named Patriots must deal with. The Raiders moved on early from players that would break the bank when they made their eventual move to Vegas. The Raiders were smart.

Ab wants money and change of scenery. Damien woody said in an interview that guys care more about money and not the game. Said guys would tell him a ring won’t cover their mortgage or futures.

Sad to say but with social media now a days things have gotten out of hand.

Raiders were willing to pay Mack, but Mack wasn't interested and stopped associating with the owner and coach.

Everyone here is underrating AB's diva persona.

OBJ syndrome. Just wait when that offense is having difficulties getting AB the ball. Raiders are going to implode.

I would gladly take Cooper over AB any day, because I can trust Cooper to not ruin the team chemistry. I never even have to consider that thought because Cooper is a stand up guy.

AB is continuously in the news for his diva persona and lack of common sense. I will pass.

Steelers picked up a 3rd and 5th, unloaded that ridiculous contract and a team cancer. He's turning 31 his days as the #1 WR in NFL are numbered and possibly already over.

AB is an awesome talent but he's in his 30's. I think we won this deal hands down!

Both teams win in the amari trade.

Raiders win talent wise with brown deal. But these things often look better on paper than on the field. More likely we get a better off the field show than on it.

If we did that and AB was 27-28 yes I'd be doing cartwheels yes. Turning 31, not so much.

There's zero signs of physical dropoff.

The same people talking about signing Earl Thomas at 30 now have a problem with Brown being 30 as well. Funny how that works.

Agreed charron. I don’t see why some fans have to think there has to be a winner and loser when it comes to trades. The truth is, the cowboys and raiders both made out well from this whole situation.

There are a lot of top free safeties that had long careers into their late 30s. WRs have some that have played into their late 30s but those tend to be the guys that are over 6-0 and are around 200 pounds. WRs also are extremely reliant on the QB and offense style - targets.
