That’s just the business, and it’s the way sports works from youth teams up to the pros. Should teams never sign a free agent or make a trade or participate in the draft because they are worried about hurting an existing player’s feelings? Besides, who’s to say it wouldn’t have been Heath sitting if ET had been signed?

I agree. If he uses this as a means to motivate himself great I hope he does but if he does not step up his game he will have bigger concerns than his feeling being hurt. I like him and think he has a chance to improve as a player, if he doesn't then his play is not that stellar from the Cowboys looking for improvement

Now I know you are insane.
I've noticed you are so wrong and choose the opposite pretty much on everything the Cowboys have done recently.

Cowboys: 2 NFC East Division Championships, 2 deep into the playoffs, winning 1 playoff game and barely missing the playoffs by 1 game in the other non-playoff season the past 3 years.

You: nothing but complain about the Cowboys decisions for the past 3 years.

I'll take the Cowboys decisions.

And what you are saying is exactly how athletes from pee wee to pros should react to a challenge - step up and use it as motivation and prove your worth. Hopefully that’s what Woods does.

D-I-R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what it means to Jerry. Sock it to him, sock it to him, etc.

Pretty much how it will always be. As I said I like him but he is far from some elite Safety and has much to work and improve on. I know people don't like Jerry and seem to be acting as if well now Jerry did it he made Woods upset? and???? he is not a great safety he is decent nothing more at this time. Lets hope he steps it up because if he doesn't then he and his hurt feeling will be elsewhere

I find it funny so many fans have been clamoring for the Cowboys to sign ET, and now some are saying it was disrespectful to pursue him to begin with.

I like Woods potential, and I think he had a solid first year as a starter. But to be disrespected over this would be silly. I feel like he's trying to make something out of nothing to give himself some extra motivation.

True. I really wanted Dallas to get Earl last season when he was holding out and heading in the off season would love to have picked him up but not at that price tag. I have said if he wanted to play in Dallas great but it would not be a deal putting him in the top 5 paid safeties especially coming off and injury at 30 years old. As for Woods decent player and will have this coming season and the 2020 season to elevate his stock because right now if he were a FA his value would not be that great

I understand what you are saying but I also think it's the fact that the FO was going after a player coming off of injury who was just going to walk onto the starting lineup dispite what someone like woods has done.

There is no guarantee that earl will still be himself even with Baltimore.

Would I feel disrespected, hell yes.

There's no rule against playing two guys with a FS skill set. In today's NFL, it'd be an advantage in some games. Thomas and Woods could have played a whole lot of snaps side by side. Linebackers like LVE and Jaylon make it feasible.

Yes the days of guys playing only one position are long gone. Don't recall seeing Lilly ever drop into pass coverage, e.g., and if he did it was very seldom. With the salary cap you have to have players who can play different positions, at least to some extent.

Somebody needs to sit Woods down and explain to him that Thomas is an established, proven Pro Bowl safety, but that he's much older than Woods, and that with the position flexibility these days, very likely Woods and Thomas could be on the field at the same time, and that if Woods sits out some plays every week it will prolong his career.

But like someone else said, I didn't interpret his comments as being all butt hurt, more like "So I'm not good enough, eh? I'll show everybody".

As is often the case, the slightest chance some blogger or sports writer has to create some controversy involving a Dallas Cowboys player, coach or owner they will do so. Most teams this happened to wouldn't even be noted. Gotta take all these types of articles with a big box of salt....

Nothing wrong with Dallas always looking to improve, no matter whose feelings get hurt.
Nothing wrong with the kid being pissed, but who cares...he’s funneling it as motivation...that’s how you do it. This is a BS non-story. He gets that it’s a business and is working harder than ever, motivated to prove something. He’s not moping and asking for a trade.
