Cowboys will get run off field again if no major upgrades at DL

While I am not suggesting we should not upgrade talent on the DLine, talent, or lack there of, was not the reason why we were ran out of the stadium against the Rams.

So we can upgrade the talent all we want, but if the preparation and game plan is not improved, it won't take too much for another team to put up 200+ yards rushing against our D.

2 teams out of 18 games ran the ball with any success on Dallas and now team will be putting up 200 yards? Come on, Dallas played poorly acting as if all the good things the defense did over the course of the season is now all down the drain because the Rams ran is a bit of a reach. Clearly Dallas needs more than Woods and Collins in a fairly thin rotation.

If I learned one thing after that disastrous loss to Rams in playoffs its this team completely fooled themselves into believing they had talented DL. Since then they have lost Gregory (2nd best pass rusher) and Irving.

I propose two options:

1. Trade Byron Jones for a young high quality starting DT or DE. Jones creates zero turnovers and is due new contract next year. I would pass on extending any DB who is adverse to creating turnovers. Then let Anthony Brown/ Jordan Lewis battle for starting CB opposite Chedo.

2. Sign Ndamukong Suh to a 1 year deal and push Dak next contract into next off-season.

Not sure what kind of quality we'd get for Jones. We could hope other teams didn't see him get lit up at the end of the season.

The Jones always missing some key part in the off-season. Last year they miscalculated the WRs positions, then have to give a 1st round pick to recovery from. Time will tell, maybe the Jones fix the DL problems, but its alot to ask for when you have other key areas of concerns. Here to the Boys!!!!!

Cowboys have been top 10 versus the rush the last 3 years without Suh, Donald, Watts, etc.

I think the Rams game was an exception and not the rule. The Rams OL told you how it happened: https://www.theringer.com/nfl/2019/...cowboys-tipping-plays-cj-anderson-todd-gurley

They got out coached which is easy when you are going against Jason Garrett and staff. Cowboys did not change their run stunt keys. Garrett did not change anything on the Cowboys run game which stymied Zeke.

Remember what the DL did to the no.1 rank rushing offense in the wild card game vs. the Seahawks?

Cowboys need a Head Coach that can constantly challenge and be a help to his staff. See Jimmy Johnson background as 4-3 and 3-4 Defensive Coordinator, Tom Landry creator of the 4-3 D, and even Wade Phillips/Bill Parcells 3-4 D. Garrett has no background to offer input...he is just a clapper.

The rams game wasent the only poor performance by the cowboys d - line .they gave up over a hundred yards rushing five other times last season. They gave up over a hundred yards eight times in 2017.this is the first season the cowboys finished in the top ten in yards per carry

Stay away from Suh unless he's cheap. He seems very lazy and problematic.

Suh showed up for like one game this year at a 14m pricetag. He was so bad the following week they had him chucking the running back before starting his pass rush. Just paying someone on the reputation of their past at this point with him!

Yep, I take a pass on Suh also...……..dude checked out once he got paid...…..never has been the same player since his Detroit days.

We shut down the running game of the Saints and that of the Seahawks. We were one of the best teams against the run for 2018--4th of 32 teams.

The Rams game was an outlier as it was L.A. misdirection, scheme...and having good intel on Cowboy players movements to get pre-snap reads.

With our two stud young linebackers, if we could get a couple beasts up front that the o-line has to worry about, look out

The Rams exposed us in the playoffs

It’s a helpless feeling when you can’t stop the run

I don't think the Cowboys DL is as bad as the Rams game performance displayed. Rinse defense was their strength all season and they completely shut down the best run game in the league the prior week.

That said, improvement is always the right strategy.

The top rushing defense in the NFL gave up over 100 yards 4 times. #2 gave up it 5 time, and #3 gave up 7 times (more than Dallas at #5). 100 yards isn’t a magic line that a good defense never allows. Even the better run defenses give up 100 yard games 30-40% of the time.
